I'm baaack~ Life kinda hit hard, what with losing that friendship with the person who originally inspired this story, finally being diagnosed with depression after putting off a mental health assessment for years and my laptop finally biting the dust (and losing anything I had saved in the process). I can't promise an update schedule, but I can promise that I'm back to writing, so look forward to more in the future!
I do not own FNAF or the song Bleeding Out by Imagine Dragons
Nightmare was in the middle of planning tortures for their next victim when he felt the portal to their realm open. He turned to look at the gate when Shadow stormed in, face set into a fierce scowl. His smile dropped into a frown, attempting to discern the reason for her foul mood. The minute her eyes met his, the mixture of pain, anger and disgust, he understood.
"Shadow..."
She shook her head.
"Why didn't you tell me Nightmare? This is something I needed to know!"
Nightmare sighed.
"If I told you they went after the night guards because they were possessed by the spirits of the vengeful children, I was afraid you would not do what had to be done if it was necessary."
Shadow's eyes widened and Nightmare flinched.
"WHAT?!"
"Ah...you did not get that far did you..."
Shadow shook her head, still in shock.
"I meant why didn't you tell me there were children murdered there...I didn't know they WERE the children. How come they didn't tell me more than what they did?"
Nightmare sighed again.
"There are many things my teachings did not cover little one. Where your soul goes when you die was one of them. Listen closely, for I will not be repeating myself. When someone dies, there are three things that can happen to their soul, depending on their actions in life.
If you lived a normal life, you pass on into nothingness, eternal peace.
If you were what one would consider evil, such as a rapist, a murderer, things along that line...your soul is passed on to our kind. You will find yourself in one of the many realms controlled by our kind. I will not go further than that, just know that you suffer eternally.
If you are ended before your time...your soul stays in limbo. You drift until either your tormentor dies themselves, or you find a way to pass on."
Shadow frowned.
"But then how are they possessing the animatronics, and why didn't they say anything about it?"
Nightmare frowned and tapped a claw against his chin.
"There is something about those Fazbear Entertainment animatronics that gives them unnatural properties, including the ability to draw in and trap a wandering soul. I believe too that the one that killed the children hid their bodies in the suits, greatly increasing the chances their souls would become trapped. As for why they did not tell you they are the children...they do not know it themselves. Wandering souls cannot remember who they were. All they have is a driving force to right the wrong done to them, which is where all the tales of hauntings come from."
Shadow's eye twitched.
"So, what you're telling me is you sent me to that damned pizzeria knowing there were vengeful souls possessing extremely dangerous animatronic bodies, who were very unlikely to stop coming after me, WITHOUT TELLING ME A DAMNED THING?"
Nightmare rolled his eyes and muttered to himself.
"No wonder Fredbear decided to make himself scarce for this conversation...mortals get much too worked up over the little things."
Shadow twitched again.
"I can hear you, you know."
Nightmare smirked at Shadow.
"Indeed little one, I know."
Shadow sighed and dropped cross-legged to the ground.
"I can't tell them any of this. Not that they'll be worried about anything except what I said last night about saving them and the pizzeria."
Nightmare hummed quietly to himself.
"You are to have the fox back by Saturday, yes?"
Shadow nodded.
"Yup. I'll be pretty much done fixing Foxy up by the end of the day, then it's just waiting for the spare costume on Friday morning. I'll probably bring him back to the pizzeria on Friday night when I go in for my shift instead of waiting for Saturday morning."
Nightmare hummed again.
"What did you tell them last night? Anything about myself and Fredbear?"
Shadow blushed.
"A little bit. Only that you two were my mentors and that you two were pretty much family to me."
Nightmare chuckled.
"I will not disagree with that, little one. Since they know of us at least by name, tell them I will take care of issues regarding the closure of the pizzeria...just do what you need to do little one. Do not worry about the consequences."
Shadow scowled
"Why do you enjoy making me curious like that? And them! They're going to be bugging me all night tomorrow!"
Nightmare rolled his eyes.
"Bring some sort of entertainment. A board game or something. They are children, even if they do not remember it. They will be thrilled with a game to play."
"You have to be fucking kidding me..."
Nightmare chuckled.
"And just where did you learn that foul language from?"
Shadow stood up and crossed her arms.
"You playing innocent doesn't fool anyone. You and Fredbear swear worse than sailors when you two are taking each other apart. Anyways...I need to go sleep before I get working on Foxy. Cya later Nightmare."
Plushtrap came running up the pathway from where he had been hiding, scrambling up Shadow's leg and perching on her shoulder as she walked through the portal into her living room...only to run straight into Foxy.
"Oof. What the heck Foxy? Is there a reason you're standing right in front of the portal?"
Shadow had the breath knocked out of her when suddenly he swept her into his arms and hugged her tightly.
"Lass, yer alright! I was worried when ye didn't return to yer home after yer shift. Was worried the bear and his crew got to you!"
Shadow smirked.
"As if I'd let the old furball get a single paw on me. Nah. We played 20 questions, I got an explanation as to why you lot hunt the guard, and I went and yelled at Nightmare after my shift. Now, I'm going to go sleep for a couple hours, then I'm going to work on fixing you up more. Don't you dare wake me up before 1!"
A few hours later
Shadow walked out of her room, rubbing her eyes and looking at her watch.
"Huh...almost 2. Slept in a bit. Wonder what Foxy and Plush are up to."
She peeked into the spare room just to be sure Foxy wasn't recharging, and when she found it empty other than her suit, she shrugged and continued down the hallway into the living room. There she found Foxy crouched at one side of her coffee table, Plushtrap standing on the other side of the table, both of them leaning over a chess board. Shadow raised an eyebrow.
"Didn't take you for a chess player Captain."
Foxy startled, eyepatch flipping upward as he whipped his head around to stare at Shadow.
"Lass! Don't give ol' Foxy a system failure like that!"
Shadow snickered.
"Sorry Captain, couldn't resist. And you may want to keep an eye on Plushtrap...he's a notorious cheat."
Foxy turned back to the game in time to see Plushtrap move a pawn closer to his side of the board and closer to a second queen. With a growl, Foxy put it back where it had been.
Leaving the two to their game, Shadow walked into the kitchen, putting coffee on and some bread in the toaster. She went over to the fridge and pulled out milk and apricot jam, humming to herself. Foxy perked his ears up in the other room as he heard the humming slowly change to soft singing.
"When the hour is nigh, and the hopelessness is sinking in...and the wolves all cry, to fill the night with hollering. When your eyes are red and emptiness is all you know, with the darkness fed, I will be your scarecrow..."
The singing cut off as the toaster popped, Shadow spreading the jam and sticking the toast in her mouth, bringing her coffee to the couch to sit and watch the pair of animatronics. She hummed, taking a bite and gesturing back to the game board.
"By all means, don't let me stop you. I'm looking forward to watching you lose to a rabbit Foxy."
The fox scowled and muttered angrily.
"Ain't no little rabbit gonna beat ol' Foxy. Just ye watch lass."
Shadow smirked and leaned back, taking another bite. With another scowl, Foxy focused back on the game, determined to win and prove her wrong.
I'm just going to stop it here, if I try to write anything else before I start the night, it's just going to be a mess. Keep an eye on your updates people, I'll be back soon!
