Happy Birthday KakaAnko! Here's to another year! May it be joyful and full of blessings!
I do not own.
Beverly put down the dessert spoon that she had halfway to her mouth. "Do you think Caesar's acting weird?"
Circe lifted an eyebrow. "How would you be able to when he's not?"
Beverly picked up her spoon and lifted it before setting it down.
"Do you think he's cheating on me?" It was an unexpected question.
Circe choked on her drink sending her into a coughing fit.
Beverly pounded on her back to help.
"What makes you say that?" Circe gasped through her coughs.
"Oh, I don't know." Beverly threw her hands in frustration. "We haven't gone out in weeks. Every time I ask if he wants to go do something, he says he's busy."
"Maybe he is?" Circe carefully sipped her coffee.
"Doing what? I mean I know all his projects. I know his schedule." Beverly started twisting her napkin.
"So what does his schedule say?" Circe asked reasonably.
"Washing hair." Beverly said bluntly.
Circe shot her a look. "Seriously?"
"Yes!" Beverly said emphatically.
"Wow." Circe said simply.
"What should I do?" Circe noticed that her friend was genuinely distraught.
"I don't think you need to do anything." Circe shrugged. "I mean look at him… who on Earth could stand such a detached, single-minded, nerd…" Circe stopped when she realized that she was inadvertently insulting Beverly. "I mean he's ok looking." She took a large gulp of her drink to stop talking.
"Caesar's sweet and I can't imagine him cheating on me, but I can't think of what he could be doing every night without me." Beverly twisted the napkin in her hands.
"Why don't you just ask him?" Circe suggested.
"You mean like go up and ask if he's cheating on me?" Beverly asked.
"Uh… maybe be a little more tactful?" Circe suggested.
"Like how?" Beverly tore the napkin in half.
"Well, start by as asking what he's actually doing." Circe replied.
"And what if he says he's washing his hair?" Beverly asked.
"I don't know. Ask if you can wash with him." Circe said.
"What?" Beverly's face turned bright red as she gaped at Circe. It wasn't until she saw the twinkle in her eye. "You stinker!" She couldn't help but laugh as she batted at her friend.
Circe was also laughing. "Look, you're his girlfriend. You have the right to know what he's doing. Go, talk to him and don't take no for an answer!"
"I will!" Beverly got up resolutely.
"You do that." Circe said encouragingly watching her friend march off. As soon as she was out of sight, she frantically grabbed her cell. "Caesar? She's coming now! You better make up something better than washing hair!" She snapped into her phone before hanging up.

Beverly stopped in front of Caesar's lab. Thinking of Circe's words, she took a deep breath, steeled herself, and knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Beverly walked in. Her jaw dropped. "What are you doing?"
"Washing hair." Caesar answered. "Didn't you see that on the schedule?"
"Whose hair is that?" Beverly pointed at the strands in his hands.
"Oh, I got them from some of the agents." Caesar answered.
"You asked them?" Beverly asked.
Caesar looked confused. "Ask? Hmm, maybe that's why they seemed so upset."
Beverly resisted the urge to facepalm. "Why are you washing the hair?"
"Oh, I just needed to clean off the oil. Once dried I'm going to create the first electric conductor out of it." Caesar said matter-of-factly.
"I didn't know hair conducts electricity." Beverly frowned.
"Well, the science is out on that but if it works it think of the possibilities." Caesar said.
"Like?" Beverly asked skeptically.
"Hair is a cheaper resource than copper." Caesar replied.
"I guess." Beverly conceded reluctantly.
"I still have another 20 tons to get through, so if you'll excuse me." Caesar dropped the hair into a vat before ushering her out.
"Wait, maybe I ca help?" Beverly offered.
"That's nice but it's a delicate process. It's best I do it myself. But thank you for stopping by. I'll see you in the morning." He practically shoved her out before the door snapped shut in her face.
Beverly stared awkwardly at the door. She turned to go but his voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Si, I got rid of her. I'll meet you tonight, same place."
Beverly's eyes narrowed. "Something's afoot."

Around midnight, Caesar's door slid opened. He poked his head out before the rest of him followed. Looking around nervously before he walked down the hallway. When he heard footsteps, he flattened himself against the wall. Some grunts passed by engrossed in their conversation.
When their voice faded away, Caesar made a beeline to an unused part of the building. He didn't notice a shadow that only appeared when passing through the lit parts of the hall.
A few minutes later he entered a room. Beverly materialized when she pulled off the hood of the stealth suit. Glaring at the door, she heard music seep through. She placed her ear on the door.
"Does she know?" Her blood ran cold. It was Circe's voice.
"She doesn't suspect anything." Caesar answered.
"Get closer."
Beverly burst into the room. She saw the shocked faces of Caesar and Circe. Caesar was holding Circe around the waist.
"How could you!" Beverly was outraged. Looking at Circe, she shouted. "I thought you were my friend!"
Both Caesar and Circe jumped away from each other.
"Beverly, it's not what you think… I mean I can see why you would think but it's not." Caesar said fumbling.
"Listen Bev…" Circe was interrupted.
"I can't believe you'd go behind my back… I thought you… loved me." She choked back tears.
"But I do…" Caesar stepped forward while she stepped away from him.
"If you didn't want to be with me, you could at least be honest. And what would Rex say?" Beverly started to sniffle.
"Say about what?" Rex asked.
No one noticed when he had entered the room. He was holding a pizza and soda.
"Rex?" Beverly gaped.
"Last I checked." He said jovially. "Hey, wait a minute. Why is Beverly here? I though it's supposed to be a surprise?"
"Surprise?" Beverly looked from Rex to the others.
"Beverly, apparently Caesar sucks at being secretive." Circe sighed.
"No, I'm not." Caesar protested.
"He asked me to help him." Circe ignored him.
"Help him with what?" Beverly was still confused.
"Well, besides sucking at secrets, he also can't dance… at all." Circe glared at the scientist.
"I can dance… a little." Caesar interjected. Both Rex and Circe gave him a look.
"Bro, rocking back and forth isn't dancing." Rex snorted.
"I asked Circe to help me learn more complicated forms of movements." Caesar explained.
"Well, he asked me at first, but he couldn't keep up with my awesomeness." Rex bragged.
"You mean he stepped on your foot, one too many times." Circe said wryly.
"That too." Rex admitted opening the pizza box. "I told them to put the salmon, pineapple on one side. Circe and I get the normal side."
Beverly looked at them in bewilderment. "So… so… you're not cheating on me?"
"Of course not." Caesar said emphatically.
"Yeah, what idiot would go out with him?" Rex said as he pulled out a slice. When he looked up, he caught Circe's eye. "I mean… who wouldn't go out with… such a smart, not quite as good looking as me, guy… who dances like those inflatable tube things used to advertise used cars." When he realized he had dug himself into a corner, he shoved the pizza into his mouth.
Circe pushed Caesar towards Beverly. "Show her…"
"I don't think I'm ready…" Caesar said nervously.
"It's now or never." Circe insisted. With one more shove, Caesar was in front of a still stunned Beverly.
Circe motioned for Rex to change the music.
Rex with his clean hand pressed the button on the player. Loud metal music poured through the speaker. Everyone glared at him.
"Oops, wrong one." He said sheepishly. He pressed again. A waltz called Valse-Impromptu by Franz Liszt began playing.
Caesar gulped and took Beverly by the waist and hand. He slowly moved her around the room. As the music sped up, they moved faster. Caesar grew more confident as the music continued. Circe moved over next to Rex to watch. He offered her a slice of pizza. She took it. When the music stopped, they both were panting but smiling.
"You learned that for me?" She asked shyly.
"I wanted to surprise you. I know you like to dance." He said.
"That's so sweet." She answered.
"I know, isn't that sickening?" Rex said before Circe elbowed him.
The two didn't even seem to hear him.
"Would you like to go again?" He asked.
"Sure." She agreed.
Circe played another song. This time words floated along with the song. Sometimes the snow comes down in June, sometimes the sun goes round the moon. I see the passion in your eyes, sometimes it's all a big surprise…
Caesar and Beverly slowly moved around the floor. Rex and Circe gave each other a look and nodded. They both slipped out of the room leaving the dancers alone.
I didn't write too many of the lyrics because the last time I did, I got in trouble. But the song is called Saved the Best for Last by Vanessa Williams. It's a very sappy song and I included a waltz by Franz Liszt, one of the most famous composers in the world who also happened to be Hungarian (Happy Birthday KakaAnko).
I am now on hiatus. I have finished all unfinished chapter stories. The in-progress stories are one shots that may be updated from time to time. I don't know if I'll be writing any more long format stories but we'll see. Right now, I'm a little burnt out. Please support other writers on this fandom. Some of their stories are awesome. Leave reviews, favor, and follow to encourage them. Thank you for your many years of support.
