Can the other Arlesdale engines help bring Alex out of his shell, or will he keep his horrific secrets bottled up forever?

Some of the engines question whether or not Thomas and Emily's relationship makes sense or if they are simply polar opposites of each other, in which case should they be in love with each other? Edward, however, has the answer to everyone's question.
