Before And After

Chapter 11-This Time And In This Place

As Prue takes on film monsters come to life and deals with the consequences that exposure to demons have on a perky college student she and Andy look into unsolved cases as a mysterious stomach bug works it's way through Prue's system.

The weeks after that encounter Prue felt sick to her stomach and her whole body felt tender to the touch especially her boobs which felt besieged. Andy was occupied with a case for the DA which then turned into two cases. A parolee was up when he had been on the job and he was insistent that the man do his full sentence and therefore as time progressed he was absent.

Prue didn't mind it. Events pushed her illness out of her mind. Piper had finally realised what they had all known (deep down) and that was that Leo was the right man for her and she was destined to be with her and she had broken up with Dan which had left her with a severe case of the guilts regardless of the fact that she had done the right thing.

And that had led to the Demon of Illusion.

She rang Andy as he was at his office and told him to stay there. Phoebe was upstairs with Billy and Piper and Leo had gone to the movies. As far as Daryl was concerned the entire city had lost it's mind and she knew she had half an hour at the most before some kind of demon or monster or creature appeared and interrupted her phone call. As her stomach was mostly settled (despite the run in with that toad Evan Beck) she was not going to waste the opportunity.

"Kill it Before it Dies?" Andy said when Prue rang him to tell him that perhaps it was not the right time to come home.

"Isn't that the black and white movie we went to see when we were sixteen?"

"Yes. If I remember rightly you fell asleep during it"

"Well yeah it's not what you would call scary"

"Don't let Phoebe tell you that. She loves it"

"Yeah well…Phoebe thinks that Star Wars is overrated. Phoebe is not the best judge of character when it comes to movies"

Prue laughed. Andy had been a die hard Star Wars fan to the point that their first date (and it had been a baby date at that) had been one of the films.

"Look just…just don't come home for a while until we have delt with this demon. Leo seems to think that he's a really bad one, or at least he's got 'THEM' worried and that's usually a bad sign. Promise me…the last thing I need to worry about is you running into the axe murderer. Especially as you don't know the plot endings"

He laughed.

"Sure. I have to stay at the office and work for a while anyway. The defence really wants this bastard out and I really want him in prison. Just…just try not to have this take all night"

"Andy it's not like I can put a rush on these kinds of things"

"I know but…I'd like to sleep in my own bed at some point. You want me to pick up some chicken soup?"

Prue paused. She had wanted chicken soup for a while now because it seemed to be the only thing that settled her stomach but today was a good day and she found she was hungry for something more solid.

Eggs. Actually she really wanted eggs.

"No I'd do myself some eggs. I think I finally threw off this bug"

"You know what it was?"

"No. But to be honest there's so much shit in our fridge related to demons and potions and whatnot it's probably just some cross contamination."

"There's a point to made for you know, cleaning it. Health Code violations all over that fridge of yours if they ever did open it. I don't know anywhere else that keeps the cheese next to the bat wings."

Prue laughed and then her stomach rolled. Ugh. Bat wings.

That being said…cheese.

"Look I'll call you when this is over and then you can sleep"

"Honey I'll sleep when I'm dead. All I want to do is make sure this bastard stays behind bars and then scrub off the courtroom smell until my skin is red."

Prue smiled.

"Love you" she said.

"Love you too. Stay safe and don't let the scary monster bite"

She laughed regardless of the fact that Andy was serious. It was hard for her not to laugh. With nights like tonight it was not about laughing it was about stopping yourself from crying.

She crawled back upstairs feeling tired in every bone in her body. Since Aunt Gail's taking and then giving back of the powers (or rather since they had grabbed them back) she felt off kilter. Actually she had felt off kilter since the awakening spell. Surely it was not still an aftereffect? She was all for consequences as a question of the whole personal gain thing but this was taking the piss and them some.

Maybe it was worth speaking to Leo? Prue had a dim opinion of 'THEM' on a good day—perhaps this was all some cosmic joke and she was just along for the ride. See how long it was before the eldest sister cracked?

Bastards.

This demon was tough and after a brief encounter with horror films (because it wasn't as if they had enough of them in their lives was it) and a nice bit of kick boxing with the local theatre nerd they got rid of him. Leaving art under a light too long did let it burn and Andy who came home just as they were celebrating/cleaning blinked.

"One of these days you'll fight the demon of cleanliness or order or something that won't make me feel like I am coming home to a bomb site"

"Very funny" Piper said picking up and throwing a ruined cushion at him. "There must be a spell to stop all of this—it's hardly personal gain. How are we supposed to keep paying the bills to keep the manner in the family if we keep paying for the windows to be repaired?"

"Doesn't sound like personal gain" Andy muttered turning over a couch chair that had half it's leg blackened.

"If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck" Phoebe said sagely.

"Andy can you get us some food?" Prue asked. She was consciously aware that she had never made the food that she had wanted because of the whole pasty white hag and lunatic trying to kill her thing.

"Sure—you want anything in particular"

"Pizza"

"Eggs"

There was a delicate pause. Both of her sisters were looking at her as if she was mad and Prue couldn't exactly blame them. Whoever heard of someone choosing eggs over pizza? Especially if you lived in this house. It was almost as sacrilege as spitting on the book of shadows.

Or you know…throwing it out of the window.

"You want eggs?" Phoebe asked with a small laugh in her voice. "I thought you'd gotten over this bug thing"

"I have" she said immediately on the defensive. "I just…just fancy some eggs"

"Kitchen's that way then" Piper said shortly. "Andy on the other hand can go out and get us a deep pan cheese with extra cheesy crust for Leo and a large meat one. Also some cookies. This date went to hell in a hand basket so Leo may as well enjoy himself. Get the ones where the chocolate melts in the centre he thinks that's almost like magic"

Andy caught Prue's eye and she shrugged. She knew Piper felt guilty over breaking Dan's heart and annoyed that nothing seemed to be helping in terms of a normal relationship with Leo but really…what was she supposed to do?

They ate pizza that night…all except Prue. She ate scrambled eggs on toast with lashings of butter and hot sauce and she fell asleep next to Andy and didn't dream of anything.

When she woke up she ate some more eggs and kept them down throughout the day.

She took that to mean her bug was over. And that they really should follow Andy's advice and look into cleaning and sorting that fridge before something poisonous was accidently pressed up against the cheese Piper was using to make lasagne.

Cleavant Wilson was an innocent that was done over by the justice system so many times that it was hard to keep track. Prue thought that it was infuriating just to listen to the story never mind living it and as Daryl was no help and her sisters were off somewhere she found that she was calling Andy and asking if he wanted to meet her for lunch. Andy listened over his soup and sandwich and she poked at a salad in utter frustration.

He was just as helpful as his partner was.

"Of course I remember the case. Doesn't matter, they won't crack while that bastards in that music shop"

"So there really was nothing PD could do?"

"Short of a confession no. We had a nightmare with that neighbourhood. It's not even like it's a gang warfare. Instead it's just one man. Damn shame too"

"Andy could you not just have…arrested him?"

Andy looked at her over his sandwich.

"Prue I was never that kind of cop, neither was Daryl. Besides even if we had just brought him in unless we could keep him off the street nothing would stick. Trust me. That man's been a boil on the butt of the PD for a long time."

Prue felt her stomach roll.

Damn she had thought she was past this.

What the hell was going on?

She looked away breathing through her nose.

"You alright?"

"Not a fan of watching you clog your arteries clog up with grease"

Andy rolled his eyes.

"Listen are you over that bug yet?"

Prue thought she was going to be sick.

"Yes" she lied.

"Good. Cause otherwise I'd worry and I'd say go to the doctor"

"Oh please"

"Remember Piper? Witches get sick too"

She rolled her eyes but he had a point.

"I have to go to the bathroom. Can you get me another water?"

Andy smiled at her. His mouth was full of steak which made him look a little bit like a beaver and Prue thought that it should have been a complete and total turn off instead of utterly adorable.

She just managed to lock the bathroom door before she sick.

She closed the lid of the toilet to flush and placed her forehead on the cold lid breathing hard.

She had no idea what was causing this bug. Some days she was fine and other days she was sure that she was going to vomit until there was nothing left in her stomach.

She moved to sit on the lid of the toilet and found that she was thinking about the dead. That girl who had been left to die on the street whose father was living a miserable half existence because people would not speak up. And Phoebe's classmate who had been killed simply because she had been curious.

It was all so pointless and unfair.

Charlene was board.

Honestly nobody had ever mentioned that being dead was so boring.

Actually she supposed if they had then that would defeat the purpose of being dead…

Christ it gave her another monster headache just thinking about the ins and outs of it. On top of the headache she already had on account of her head being cut of by a demon…of all the ways to go that was pretty horrific. Least the bastard could do was keep her in one piece so that she could be buried with an open casket.

Libris had been defeated. That had been…satisfying to say the latest but now she was sat in the same kitchen she'd been sat at…or floating in depending on your view and now she was board. She wanted to move on to…whatever it was that you moved onto. She wanted to give her family the decency of peace. Her murder would never be solved even though she had justice now. She was going to be another number that was in reports sent to the PD for them to do a better job solving unsolvable murders. Her family was never going to get justice even if she had gotten it.

She wanted that. She wanted justice for her family and if not hers then for someone else.

She voiced that aloud watching her nails go through the kitchen table when all she wanted to do was drum them on hard wood and feel it.

Prue, Phoebe's eldest sister turned to look at her. Charlene thought she looked peaky and pale though to be fair she was dead so she couldn't really talk. She was constantly holding her stomach as well as if she was trying to keep something down.

"Maybe you can"

"How?"

"Well…" Prue said with a smile. "I know a man who desperately needs justice for his daughter. Perhaps then you can move on"

Charlene was desperate to give it a try.

Anything to get rid of this splitting headache.

And this terrible sense of unfair.

Andy was reading when Prue came in.

"Are you sure your ok?"

"Yeah" Prue said. She flipped open her work diary and paused. She flipped backwards a couple of weeks and then a couple more and then paused.

"You sure?"

She stared down at her book.

"Yeah Andy" she said her hair covering her face. "Don't worry about it. I just…it's just been a really long couple of weeks you know?"

Andy did know so he let it drop.

In hindsight he shouldn't have but he was tired and it had been a long couple of days.

He fell asleep almost instantly.

Prue didn't however, she stayed awake for a very long time. Counting of all things.

He just didn't know it yet.

And there you are, I hope you enjoy this chapter and I will do my best to bring you the next one soon.

Next Chapter-The final chapter of the Season 2 arc. Prue and Andy must battle their greatest fight yet when Prue is taken by the Force Horseman forcing Andy to consider life on the bigger scale.
