Before And After
Chapter 19-Wedding's, Parties, Anything.
Prue and Andy deal with Piper and Leo's wedding and Cole's return. Also the return of a few ghosts who help sort a few feelings out.
Cole liked Andrew Trudeau.
Prue was another story but Cole liked her boyfriend which was odd because…well as a general rule he didn't like cops, as a demon and as an ADA. An ADA because cops were generally the annoying little brother that screwed up or perhaps could screw up depending and as a demon because cops were always so messy. They either tended to search too hard and hunt too hard or if you killed them it just became…messy. It was hard to be an eternal force of darkness when you had half the city's cops looking out for you just waiting to see things that they really shouldn't see…
But Cole liked Andrew Trudeau. Daryl not so much simply because he fell into both categories but Andrey Trudeau was a different case. He figured there had to be something that would make…THEM…keep the man alive and he was pleased to realise that there wasn't anything actually.
He was delightfully, deliciously mortal.
A mortal though he may be to seduce Prue Halliwell (not that Cole suspected Prue Halliwell needed much seducing as far as Andrew Trudeau was concerned) but he also seemed a man of uncommonly good sense. And Cole found that he rather liked that. When the world was falling apart due to magic, or past lives or books that slid across the room without warning and magic rocks that sent shockwaves through you (and he could still remember that one), there was always Andrew Trudeau there standing in the background watching silently, a strong presence in a world that was decidedly crumbling all around them.
Weather the feeling was mutual Cole didn't know but now he was in the 'inner circle'—or at least back with Phoebe he thought that he should put the man's mind at rest. Or at least try too.
"Everyone knows about your baby you know…down there"
Andrew Trudeau looked at him with those eyes that seemed to speak a thousand words. Certainly they could convey more violence with one look than certain demons could with century of progress. Not that, that meant much…the Grimlore's for example…
Well…
"What I mean is…everyone knows…but nobody's doing anything because…because they've been ordered not to by the Source"
"The Source?"
"Of All Evil"
Andrew Trudeau looked at him for a second. Piper and Leo were getting married tomorrow and Cole had been…well…he didn't know why he was here or what he was supposed to be doing but then—
"Do demon's drink?"
"Huh?"
"Vodka do you drink it?"
Cole nodded in truth he didn't need to eat or drink but most of his brothers did it because it helped them to blend in. Most of them ended up liking it. Cole had a deep appreciation for ravioli and he certainly had a deep appreciation for bacon because he was half human as well as a demon and even demons knew bacon was something that they had created to lure people into temptation. That and butter…lashings and lashings of butter.
Andrew Trudeau poured him a vodka and Cole took it.
"So there is a Source of All Evil?"
"Of course there is"
"And what he's said my baby is off limits?"
"No it's more…it's more he wants to see what happens you know? Nobody knew what the Charmed Ones were going to be when they just become the Charmed Ones and nobody knows about your baby. Mortals and witches don't tend to have children all that often. A product of the lifestyle you know?"
"Aha. Is that what you are? Half human and half demon. Are there many of you?"
So Phoebe had told him about that then.
"Yes. I am one of a kind" he said taking a sip of vodka. "That's why I did it. It's what the Triad offered me"
"Full demonhood?"
What…did he not understand…
"Human. They offered me humanity. A chance to cut the demoness out of my life so to speak and live a normal mortal life. I've got five centuries under my belt. Dying in your sleep is actually a really nice thought when you don't even need to sleep"
"So my baby…"
"They won't go near it until they think that is a threat. And then when it is a threat you and Prue will be able to put things in place to protect it. It's a dance you see. Evil never does catch up. It's why we always take mad, stupid risks. Nothing else to loose"
"If you are fucking with me—"
"Please…even if I wanted to hurt Phoebe in such a way do you really think I would give your partner another excuse to kill me? I've been on the receiving end of what she can do believe me it's not something I would recommend. Besides…I had a line you know. Over the course of five centuries I never went near a child, never even killed people who had them"
"So you're a Good Samaritan kind of demon"
Cole had no idea what that was but sure.
He supposed.
Andrew Trudeau said nothing for a second and then held out his hand.
"You may call me Andy" he said finally. "And if I find out that you are lying to me then I promise you I will make whatever Prue will do to you look like child's play"
Cole stared at him. Granted the man was mortal but there was something about him that made Cole think he was serious. Deadly. Serious.
Huh. Maybe there had been a reason why THEM had kept him alive? Maybe it was the same reason they were letting this marriage go ahead.
Anything for a quiet immortal life.
Cole could quite understand the feeling.
Actually, he craved it.
He craved all of it.
Every single, simple bloody bit.
Seeing her mother had not been what Prue had expected. It was painful and messy and even worse than seeing her grandmother but also so much better all at the same time.
And she was real…with Grams she was there but you couldn't touch her. You couldn't hold her in your arms and smell her and touch her and be desperate for her. This was the first thing and the last thing that Prue had wanted since she had lost her mother and now as she was pregnant with her first child she was hugging her mother and the baby inside of her was feeling his grandmother's touch for the first time.
Actually the baby inside of her was doing something else as well but she was not going to ruin Piper's big day by distracting the attention away from her by telling her that…that…well…she would tell them both later.
There was a long pause where her and Patty held each other and she felt her Mom's hand come down to her belly and touch the baby and she felt the resounding kick from her boy as his grandmother touched him.
"Oh Prue…I can tell, he is going to be an absolute darling"
"And the rest of them?"
"Oh don't worry" their Mom said with the smug smile of a woman who knew the future and who knew it well.
"I am going to have lots of grandchildren, girls and boys. And all of them charmed in their own unique ways. And that…that is a wonderful legacy to have weather or not I am here to see it"
"It's a boy you know"
"Oh I know. I know the names of all your children. I know the name of that baby you carry in the future but things…things will all be revealed in time"
Her hug was still the same when she pulled all three of them in for it and it was only then that Prue felt her whisper the name in her ear and she knew what all her children was going to be called.
She knew what was going to happen next.
And the future was looking bright and good and golden and she was going to live for it.
And her mother was going to be there with her every step of the way.
Her smile was still the same as Prue remembered it. Her smell still the same and when she came down the stairs she greeted their stunned father, an even more amazed Andy and Daryl and a slightly dubious Cole with much the same joy as she had greeted her daughter and it was then that Piper Jane Halliwell married Leonardo James Wyatt in the Halliwell manor with all of her family surrounding her.
"Do you wish to be the next one?" Andy asked as they crawled into bed.
"No" Prue said as she rubbed cream on her stomach. "I love you Andy I do but the truth of the matter is I don't want a ring on my finger because I am pregnant. If we marry I want it to be because the moment is right not because we have too. I want it to be because it's you and me and not because it's the thing that we have to do"
"I agree with you but I am just—"
"Andy don't ask me because you have to ask me. I told you that when I told you that I was pregnant. If we marry—"
"When"
"Alright—" she said with an eyeroll.
"When we marry, I want it to be because we know the time is right"
"You tell me when your ready darling and I will happily go down on one knee"
Prue considered her response to this. There was several things that she could say to that and several that were pleasurable and she wanted to do nothing more than to sink back into that moment but instead she had a question she needed to ask him.
"What do you think of the name Martha?"
"Martha? Well I suppose it's a nice name but we are having a boy Prue. And our daughter's name is Anna remember?"
She did and she nodded kissing him. It was pointless to tell Andy that she had been pregnant in the future with their third child. She did not know what to say when that memory alongside everything else was up in the air.
What she did know was that she was happy here, she was happy in this moment and she had something incredible to share with the love of her life and the father of her child.
"Feel this" she said and her hand reached out and grabbed his putting it over the hard bump where their baby was.
Andy listened for a second his head cocked to the side, feeling…waiting and then suddenly…suddenly she knew that he had feeling what she had been feeling.
"Prue…did he?"
"Yeah Andy…he did"
Andy met her eyes, his own were filled with love.
"Yeah Andy…he kicked"
"He can kick…our boy can kick"
"Yeah and considering the fact that he's been doing it all day I would say there is a football future in it for him"
Andy let out a wet laugh and bent and kissed her stomach and Prue at the same time bent her head and pressed a kiss into his hair and then on his lips when he came back up and kissed her as if he was drinking in air.
"I love you" he said and Prue grinned her eyes overbright.
"I love you" she said kissing him back and Andy grinned dropping back down so that he could kiss their boy who was kicking happily away.
"And I love you Peter, very, very much"
Prue laughed and Peter kicked away and Andy kissed her again and they carried on one step forwards into this perfect, utterly perfect moment that came with a wedding, a part or anything else that involved family, life and more importantly love which (at risk of Prue sounding like Albus Dumbledore in the books that she was damn well going to read to her kids, all of three of them) was the greatest magic of all.
I have taken some liberties with the names and some liberties with events but this story is so AU that at this point I don't think it matters.
Next Chapter-As Prue deals with the ramifications of her mother's visit she comes face to face with the greatest enemy that she thinks she will ever face and learns a valuable lesson about what death really looks like.
