Captain Marvel
(Billy Batson + Carol Danvers)
Name: Billie Danvers
Biography: Being good is not easy. There's a reason why people will resort to crime, why the Devil still gets deals, and why the hero doesn't always win. Yes, being good isn't easy. But, nothing worth doing ever is. Simply pushing yourself to be good every day no matter how little life seems to appreciate your efforts? Well, there's no clearer definition of a hero than that.
For half her life, fourteen year old Billie Danvers has only ever known tragedy and hardship. When she was seven, her mother died in a car accident and her misogynistic father abandoned her to the foster care system. Ever since then, she's been bounced around from home to home, never finding a family actually willing to take care of her. In spite of that, Billie had always strived to be good, following her mother's last words, "be good and good will follow."
But being good didn't stop Billie from being cold, pessimistic and emotionally closed-off from others. So when she was adopted by another family in Fawcett City, one that had already adopted five other kids, she believed it was only a matter of time before she was put in the foster care system again.
In spite of Billie's aloof demeanor, her new family tried to welcome her in anyway, especially her foster brother, Faizan Khan (Kamala Khan + Freddy Freeman). It was Faizan who showed Billie around her new school before being attacked by a pair of bullies. Billie stood up for her brother and the two chased after her. She managed to lose them by jumping into a subway car just as the doors were closing.
As Billie took a seat and breathed a sigh of relief, something strange began to happen. The lights flickered on and off but nobody else on the train seemed to notice. And when the lights flickered on for the final time, they all disappeared. Then the train kept going faster and faster, far faster than a subway train should be able to. Until finally and suddenly, it stopped. The doors opened, revealing a dimly lit set of stairs inside an underground cave. With nowhere else to go, Billie stepped out of the car and climbed the stairs until she saw an ancient-looking man sitting on a throne.
This man was a powerful wizard named Mar-Vel (The Wizard + Mar-Vell), and this was his lair, the Rock of Eternity. Mar-Vel explained that he used to be a captain of the Kreech (Kree + Reach) imperial armada before growing disgusted with their warmongering. And so, he sought a new world far removed from the Kreech's gaze. That world was Earth and when he arrived, he was visited by its many gods, whom struck a deal with him. They would grant him their speed, courage, stamina, power, strength, and wisdom if he agreed to become this planet's guardian. And so he became Captain Marvel.
But five thousand years ago, he made a terrible mistake: a poor decision in an heir, a strong and intelligent man known simply as Adam (Black Adam + Apocalypse). Born in ancient Egypt, he was forced into a life of slavery and despised for his disfigured appearance. The wizard thought he would know compassion for those who are helpless, but he was wrong. His champion only believed in survival of the fittest and used his new powers to conquer his homeland and rule it with an iron fist. His reign was so bloody and terrible, his subjects have called him the Apocalypse. Mar-Vel eventually learned of Adam's brutality and came to put an end to it. As he was then, he couldn't take the power back from Adam but he could send him so far away from everyone else, he wouldn't be able to use them to hurt anybody. So he cast a spell that sent Adam to the farthest star in the night sky.
But now, he can tell that that wasn't far enough. That after five thousand years of ceaseless travel, Adam will return. The time has come for him to pick a new champion. But this time, he'd make sure that his heir would be pure of heart. Billie Danvers is that heir. Now, she must take his place as the Earth's protector and become Captain Marvel.
Billie argued that she wasn't who he was looking for, but Mar-Vel assured her that the fact she stayed good even after so much hardship was all the proof he needed. He asked her to say his name, and when she did, she transformed into a full-grown woman in a superhero costume.
After that, the cave began to collapse around them. Billie tried to save the wizard, but he assured her that this was his destiny. She ran back to the train car only to appear in the subway. At first, Billie had a blast with her new power, becoming a local celebrity and a sensation on YouTube. But then, just as Mar-Vel predicted, Adam had returned and he was even more powerful than the wizard described.
It quickly became apparent to Billie that she couldn't beat him on her own, so she used her newfound magical abilities to grant superpowers to her foster siblings. Now working alongside Mr. Marvel, Monica Marvel (Monica Rambeau + Mary Marvel), Photon (Genis-Vell + Pedro Pena), Quasar (Phyla-Vell + Darla Dudley), and Marvel Boy (Eugene Choi + Noh-Varr), Captain Marvel managed to defeat her predecessor, tricking him into saying the wizard's name and making him age five thousand years in a single moment.
From then on, the Marvel family worked together to protect Fawcett City, eventually drawing the attention of the big superhero teams like the Avengers League (Avengers + Justice League), the Teen Champions (Teen Titans + Champions), and the X-Patrol (X-Men + Doom Patrol). Then one day, Captain Marvel met a team that didn't just protect Earth, but the entire galaxy: the Omega Guardians (Omega Men + Guardians of the Galaxy). Having always wanted to be a astronaut, Captain Marvel asked to join them and shortly thereafter, got to go on space adventures, bringing peace to the entire cosmos.
Billie's entire life has been an upward struggle, but her perseverance has been more than rewarded. After seven years of hardship, she got the family she's always wanted and a life's she's always dreamed of. It doesn't matter how high, how far, or how fast she has to go. Captain Marvel will always overcome any adversity to be the champion the wizard knew she was.
Powers & Abilities: By shouting the word "Mar-Vel", Billie summons a bolt of lightning from the sky right above her. When this lightning strikes Billie, it turns her into an adult with the powers of six mythic deities.
Mercury's Speed - The Messenger of the Roman Gods lets Captain Marvel fly and move faster than the speed of light.
Atlas' Stamina - The Titan of Greek legend cursed to forever hold the sky blesses Captain Marvel with his own unbeatable stamina. She never needs to rest, eat, drink, sleep, or even breathe.
Rod's Power - The Supreme Being in Slavic mythology is responsible for summoning the bolt that transforms Billie and lets her fire lightning and energy blasts. With this, Captain Marvel has accelerated healing, can travel to the Rock of Eternity, and has the ability to share her power with those she considers family. She can also absorb energy to make herself even more powerful.
Vis' Strength - The Roman Personification of Strength is the reason why Captain Marvel carries the title of Earth's Mightiest Mortal.
Ecne's Wisdom - The Celtic God of Knowledge gives her a perfect memory, precognitive awareness, and the ability to magically gain any knowledge she needs to know.
Lugh's Courage - The Celtic God of Justice makes Captain Marvel virtually invulnerable and nearly immortal.
But all that power still pales to her ultimate form: Binary. As Binary, Billie can control all forms of energy, manipulate gravity, and has the power of 100 supernovas.
Appearance: Billie as both a child and an adult has Caucasian skin, blue eyes and black hair.
As Captain Marvel, she wears a red superhero outfit that covers her entire body from the neck down. On the chest is a yellow symbol of an eight-sided star. She also wears yellow gloves, boots, and a sash around her waist. She also wears a short, white, hooded cape that's held around her neck by a gold chain.
As Binary, she becomes surrounded in a golden aura, her eyes glow yellow, and her hair turns into lightning.
