Author's note: The following entry contains content that might be triggering to certain readers. If you are a victim of sexual assault or are just uncomfortable with the topic of sexual assault in general, I highly recommend for you to read something else. Please understand that I myself would not mention sexual assault at all if it weren't a vital, unavoidable part of the character's backstory. In spite of that, if you do decide to read, I sincerely hope you have a good time.
Crazy Annie
(Rogue + Crazy Jane)
Name: Anna Marie Challis
Biography: When she was a little girl, Kay Challis was putting together a jigsaw puzzle when her own father molested her. The trauma brought about by this moment broke her mind, and as his body fell on top of her, everything went black.
Her mother took both of them to the hospital. After the doctor checked on them, they gave her good news and bad news. The good news is her husband mysteriously died as he was touching Kay. The bad news is, Kay wasn't Kay anymore.
When her mother talked to her, she was speaking with a Southern drawl and calling herself Anna Marie. The doctor told her that this was a defense mechanism and that she should be back to normal with a good therapist. But her mother couldn't afford therapy so she just hoped that this would eventually wear off.
Anna Marie tried to live a normal life but the people who knew her as Kay couldn't help but feel uncomfortable around her. Those less sensitive to her condition started calling her "Crazy Annie" and, much to her displeasure, it stuck with her through childhood and into her teenage years. Anna Marie did eventually start a relationship with a boy named Cody but it wouldn't end well.
At some point, Cody forcibly kissed Anna Marie and the event brought back memories of her father's assault. Once again, she passed out.
This time, when she woke up, she was strapped to a hospital bed. Understandably confused, she tried to escape her shackles, causing a nurse to run into the room to stop her. Anna Marie demanded to know what was going on.
The nurse told her that she was in a mental institution. Her mother found her standing over her boyfriend's dead body. But the real reason she was here was because she kept insisting that she was the boy she killed. Because of that, her mother left her here and she's been stuck in this place for three days.
The doctors refused to let Anna Marie out of the hospital until she returned to being Kay Challis. She'd probably be stuck in there forever if it a blue-skinned shapeshifter hadn't come to her rescue.
This was Madame Mystique (Madame Rouge + Mystique) and she had come to get Anna Marie out of there. Once they escaped, Madame Mystique explained her reasons for saving her. Anna Marie was a metamutant (metahuman + mutant), a subspecies of humanity granted superhuman powers as a result of their genetics. Madame Mystique went on to explain that she was part of a team of metamutants called the Brotherhood (Brotherhood of Evil + Brotherhood of Mutants) looking to conquer the world. Madame Mystique convinced Anna Marie to join them by playing on her loneliness, bitterness, and rage towards a world who had abused her, mocked her, and tried to lock her away. After that, Anna Marie gladly joined the Brotherhood, using the name the bullies of her old life used to make fun of her, Crazy Annie.
Madame Mystique adopted Anne Marie as her daughter and explained her powers to her. Crazy Annie can absorb a person's life force through skin contact. And whenever she does this, she develops a new split personality based on the person she absorbed.
As a supervillain, Crazy Annie reveled in using her powers on anyone who got in the Brotherhood's way, most often the X-Patrol (X-Men + Doom Patrol), a superhero team of metamutants and other misfits fighting for the sake of coexistence. Then one day, she used her powers on a person that would change her life forever, Earth's Mightiest Mortal, Captain Marvel (Billy Batson + Carol Danvers).
At some point, the Brotherhood found themselves battling the world's greatest superhero team, the Avengers League (Avengers + Justice League). In an attempt to incapacitate one of their most powerful members, Crazy Annie held on to Captain Marvel for so long, she almost killed her. Not only did she take her powers but also her heroic personality.
Crazy Annie, or rather Captain Marvel, turned on the Brotherhood before heading to the X-Patrol's base of operations. There, she pleaded with the team's founder, Professor Niles Xavier (Niles Caulder + Professor X), for help. In spite of protests from the rest of the X-Patrol, the Professor was never one to turn down a metamutant in need.
Using his psychic powers, the Professor probed Crazy Annie's mind, and found himself surrounded by every person that Anna Marie had absorbed. Anna Marie herself confronted the Professor and demanded that she get out of her head. The Professor tried to explain that he was there to help before he was forced out by a giant monster made out of puzzle pieces.
Back in the real world, both the Professor and Captain Marvel were shocked and confused by what they just saw. He decided to look into Crazy Annie's mind once more to see the significance of puzzle pieces and why they'd be associated with such a beast. This led to the two of them learning the awful truth of Anna Marie's past. Now knowing the cause of Anna Marie's creation, the two of them travelled to her family home. At this point, it had been in a state of disrepair, Kay's mother having left it a long time ago.
Once more, the Professor and Captain Marvel went into Kay's mind, where all the other personalities resided. This time, they were huddled around a personality that wasn't there last time, a little girl curled up and crying. The real Kay Challis.
Anna Marie reappeared, angry at them for bringing them back to this awful place. She told them to get them away from there before "Daddy" came back but it was too late. The monster made of puzzle pieces had returned and all the other personalities ran off in terror.
The Professor and Captain Marvel worked together to try to fight this creature, but Daddy proved too powerful for either of them. Then the Professor realized that the only reason he's this strong is because that's how Anna Marie and Kay see him. He tried to reach out to them, to tell them that their father wasn't unstoppable. That they beat him before and they can beat him again. But both girls were too scared to listen.
After defeating the Professor and Captain Marvel, Daddy then turned his attention towards Kay. He reached out to grab her, snapping Anna Marie out of her stupor and running to stand between them. She yelled at him, telling him that she wasn't afraid of him anymore and that he was done ruining her life. This weakened him enough that Captain Marvel was able to fry the monster with one massive bolt of lightning, finally killing Daddy and expunging him from Kay's mind.
With the threat gone, Kay had stopped crying and looked up at Anna Marie. The new personality picked up the original in her arms and the two began to merge into a single identity. Professor tried to reach out to them but once again, he was kicked from her mind back into the real world. He looked at Kay's body and asked if Captain Marvel was still in there. She wasn't, and neither was Kay.
Anna Marie was in charge again but she seemed calmer, happier, more complete. She thanked the Professor for his help and asked if she could join the X-Patrol. The Professor was happy to have her.
At first, the X-Patrol were wary of their new teammate, but she quickly proved to be a loyal teammate by being unafraid to put herself in danger to protect others. Kay may be gone, but Anna Marie has finally found a real family, one that won't hurt her, abandon her, or bring out the worst in her. And anyone who tries to mess with them will be in for a nasty surprise as they're knocked out cold by a single touch.
Powers & Abilities: Anna Marie, or Kay really, was born with the metamutant ability to absorb a person's life force through direct skin contact. When she does this, she takes the memories, talents, personalities and abilities of those people and temporarily makes them her own. Each personality is stored within Crazy Annie's mind and when they take control of her body, they're able to use the skills and powers they had before they were absorbed.
One major downside to this is that Anna Marie isn't in control of which personality takes over and when. It's basically a roll of the dice if an alter will appear that's actually helpful. Another downside is that Anna Marie can't turn her power off. She always has to be fully covered to make sure she can't touch anyone and if she holds on to someone too long, she could kill them.
Appearance: Kay Challis was born with Caucasian skin, green eyes, and black hair with a streak of white over her forehead. These traits carry over to Anna Marie.
Her X-Patrol uniform consists of a bodysuit covering everything from the neck down. The bodysuit in question has a purple torso and green arms and legs. Over the bodysuit, she wears purple gloves, purple boots that reaches her knees, a black bomber jacket that she wears open and stops at her navel, and a black belt. The belt's buckle is a red circle with black borders and a black "X" inside of it.
