Devilwing

(Daredevil + Nightwing)

Name: Matt Grayson

Biography: It all started at the Haley Circus in Gotham City. Matt, at this point, was twelve years old and his father, Jack Grayson (Jack Murdock + John Grayson), worked as the circus' acrobat. They called him the Amazing Flying Grayson. While Matt admired his father's acrobatic ability, Jack refused to let him be part of the show, insisting that Matt needed to study so that he could get into a good school and become a success. What Jack didn't know was that Matt would secretly train with his father's equipment behind his back.

One day, Matt took a break from studying to watch his father's act. On the way there, he overheard a mob boss named Roscoe Zucco (Roscoe Sweeney + Tony Zucco) threatening the circus' owner to pay him protection money. The owner refused and Zucco swore that he would regret this.

Matt tried to warn his father about what he saw, but it was too late, Jack's act had already begun. Matt and the rest of the audience watched in horror as Jack's high wire snapped and the Amazing Flying Grayson, famous for never using a net, fell to his demise. Matt couldn't believe what had happened. He tried desperately not to.

But out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Zucco trying to sneak out of the circus. Matt knew he was responsible for this and chased after him, out of the circus tent and across the street. But as he was crossing the road, an oncoming truck carrying canisters of radioactive waste crashed into him. The truck's contents spilled out and splashed onto Matt's eyes.

When Matt woke up in the hospital the next day, he couldn't even tell that he had woken up at all. The doctor informed him that the accident had made him permanently blind. What Matt quickly realized was that the accident had also enhanced all his other senses, letting him hear, smell, touch, and taste more than he thought possible. At first, all these new stimuli were too much for Matt, but some good news came along in the form of billionaire philanthropist, Bruce Stark (Batman + Iron Man) who had offered to adopt the young boy as his ward.

Several days passed and to say that Bruce was distant was an understatement. Desperate to find his father's killer, Matt snuck out of Stark Manor to find Zucco. Matt succeeded in his investigation only to be held up at gunpoint by the man. That's when Iron Bat appeared on the scene and Zucco was so terrified he suffered a heart attack and died on the spot.

Iron Bat took Matt back to his secret lair, the Batcave and revealed his identity as Bruce Stark. Bruce explained that he saw himself in the young boy and gave him the offer of a lifetime: become his partner-in-crimefighting with his very own suit of armor.

Matt accepted, but before he could don the suit, he would need to master his enhanced senses. And Bruce knew just the person to help him do that. Father and son left for Shanghai, China to learn under one of Bruce's old teachers, Ching (I-Ching + Stick), one of the greatest martial artists in the world despite having been blind his entire life.

Ching not only helped Matt control his senses, but under him, Matt became a master at acrobatics and parkour. He even helped him develop a special "radar sense" that allows Matt to create a 3D map of his surroundings in his mind. When Bruce decided Matt was ready, the two of them thanked Ching and returned to Gotham, where Iron Bat introduced his new sidekick, Warbird.

For years, the Dynamic Duo were unstoppable together, taking on everything from petty crooks to terrifying supervillains. But as Matt grew older, he started to resent simply being Iron Bat's sidekick. This all came to a head when he founded the Teen Champion (Teen Titans + Champions) and was appointed team leader. After that, he renounced the Warbird armor, and made his debut as his own hero, the Man Without Fear, Devilwing.

Devilwing led the Teen Champions against countless villains, from mercenaries, to alien conquerors, to demonic gods. But no one can stay a teenager forever, so Matt enrolled at Columbia University in New York. And after getting his degree, just like his birth father wanted, he opened a law firm in Clinton and Midtown West, otherwise known as Hell's Kitchen.

Since then, he serves justice during the day as a lawyer, alongside his best friend/partner John Nelson (Foggy Nelson + John Diggle) and their secretary, Karen Tsang (Karen Page + Shawn Tsang). But at night, he dons the horns and takes to the streets as the defender of Hell's Kitchen. Both his fathers couldn't be prouder.

Powers & Abilities: After the accident, Matt's other senses became so heightened that it almost renders sight completely arbitrary. His tough is so sensitive, he can read normal books simply by feeling the impressions on the ink. He can hear the faintest whispers and even a person's heartbeat. His taste is so acute, he can even tell how many grains of salt are on a pretzel. And his nose is so strong, he never forgets a smell once he smelt it.

But his best sense of all might just be his radar sense. Radar sense works similarly to echolocation, but rather than using noise to tell where things are, Matt emits radio waves from his brain to bounce off the objects around him, crafting a mostly accurate mental picture of his surroundings.

Being trained by both Iron Bat and Ching has made Matt a master at multiple martial arts including tae kwon do, ninjutsu, akido, and many other styles. Combine that with his years of acrobat training and most normal people can't even touch him. Iron Bat also turned him into an expert detective and taught him how to use the shadows to his advantage.

While Devilwing's new suit is a lot more lightweight and form-fitting than the Warbird armor, it still manages to be bulletproof, fireproof, and wired to deliver a 150-thousand-volt shock through his gloves.

The helmet itself hides antennae in the horns that can detect electromagnetic waves. When they do, they let Devilwing know by using a high frequency sound only he can hear. The helmet can also deflect these waves, sending them back to their original target.

Devilwing's arsenal includes a customized billy club disguised as a walking stick. It can be split into two and used as Eskrima sticks, has an extendable cable and carries a 50,000 volt taser. He's so skilled at throwing it, it always manages to bounce off his target and land back in his hand.

When he prefers to fight from a distance, he has his own personal Batarangs called Wing Dings. These can either be regular throwing stars or they can emit an ultrasonic attack to disorient enemies. Naturally, he has dampener technology in his ears to protect him from this.

Appearance: Matt Grayson has Caucasian skin, black hair, and blue eyes.

Devilwing's costume consists of a form-fitting suit of lightweight armor that covers his whole body, with a horned helmet meant to evoke imagery of the Devil that exposes the lower half of his face. The costume is entirely black with a red pair of bat wings on the chest that stretch into the shoulders. Since he can't see, the eyes of the helmet are covered up by red glass, similar to the glasses he wears in his day-to-day life as Matt Grayson.
