So… I'm back… apparently, people think this is good and I honestly did enjoy writing it. So here we go again.
A/N at the end.
Emperor Belos walked down the halls of his castle. He was tired, this damnable rebellion was putting a strain on his empire and kept him from being able to finish his plan. The "Titan's" plan.
Beside him marches two figures. To his right, the pint-sized demon who headed his Coven, Kikimora, read off reports on the last assault on the knee. While to his right the Golden guard, his nephew and apprentice, accompanied them silently.
"Last night's attack on the Knee failed my Emperor, the traitor's forces must have been warned as they allowed our forces to scale the knee before launching an assault while they were vulnerable. Current reports estimate at least twenty percent of the coven scouts sent perished while an additional forty percent will require extended medical leave to recover."
"Yet another failure it seems." The Golden Guard, Hunter, teased the small demon.
"It is not her fault, we have known former members of the Illusion Coven have infiltrated parts of my own Coven. And without the traitor Clawthorns leadership, the rebels would have been stamped out long ago." Belos stopped at the door to his throne room, turning to face his General and Nephew. "See to your men Kikimora, ensure they do not die needlessly. Hunter, you shall hunt down the spies within our ranks and drive them out into the light. I will not stand for their interference any longer."
Without waiting for an answer he waved the two off before entering his throne room. Today would be another long day for Belos. One he did not look forward to in the least.
"One more thing my Emperor," Kiki said just before he could leave them.
"Yes?"
"It appears the rebels have been making use of that Human's strange magic to lay traps and make up for some lack of combat spell training."
"The Human is gone, they are clinging to a lost idol that cannot save them, let them use her wild magic. It will not matter."
With that Belos slammed the door. No, he wasn't going to enjoy today at all.
Luz stood outside the old shack she and Eda so often used to jump back and forth between the Human world and the Demon realm. She and Vee had just arrived on foot, and the old highlander parked out front told her Lincoln and Shaw had arrived not long before them.
She took a deep breath, this was it, today was the day she finally went back… home? She wasn't sure which was which anymore but she knew her friends in the Boiling Isles were her family and she wasn't going to leave them to a deranged dictator.
She'd said goodbye to her Mami. She wasn't happy Luz was going, but since Luz had taken the portal door back and hidden it, and the fact she was eighteen now, Camila knew she couldn't do anything to stop Luz and Vee from leaving. So she'd given each of them a farewell hug and made them promise to keep in contact and let her know the two of them were okay.
Taking a deap breath Luz walked towards the house. While the outside remained dilapidated the inside had been fixed up, new wooden supports had been put up, and the trash had been cleaned out. Now the house was filled with wooden and plastic crates Luz and her friends had stockpiled just for today.
"Luz! It is good to see you."
Luz turned to see Shaw marching over and giving her a hug before standing back "I had thought you had gotten cold feet when we got here before you."
Luz smiled at her friend, Shaw was a head smaller than her with short black hair. "No, just nervous, I haven't been in the Isles for years…" Shaw nodded before walking over to some of the crates.
"Well if it makes you feel better we have everything ready to go, just waiting on that dork, Davon to get here with his guns."
Luz nodded "And Lincoln?"
"In the back doing some finishing touches on the bandoliers you asked for."
Luz smiled before going back the way Shaw had pointed.
Lincoln had turned what was probably the dining room at one point into his personal workshop. Cables were bolted to the beams they'd put up connecting different machines and computers to a small solar generator Davon had laying around. Although most of that had been boxed up already. Lincoln himself was sitting hunched over a table, working on putting something together, seemingly not having noticed Luz walk in.
"Hey Lincoln," Luz said.
Lincoln looked up from what he was working on in surprise before smiling and giving her a wave "Hey Luz, what you doing back here?"
"Oh, Shaw said you were finished with the bandoliers, I wanted to check them out."
Lincoln nodded before spinning around in his seat and grabbing a belt designed to go over someone's shoulder, or around their waist. Across the front sat four small boxes with a slit for paper to be pulled out from "Nice, man I wish I had something like this the first time I was in the isles. Good work Lincoln my man!"
Luz held her hand up for a high-five. Lincoln looked up at it before lightly slapping her hand and getting back to finishing the last bandolier up. "The rolls are on the table behind me."
Luz smiled and bounced over to the specified table where several rolls of paper sat, each marked with a different, yet to Luz familiar, set of markings. Grabbing a roll of light glyphs she started loading them into the small dispensers that sat on the belt, along with fire, ice, and plant glyphs, before hooking it over her shoulder.
"This is awesome, Lincoln. These are gonna rock when we get over there." Luz said excitedly. Just as the sounds of an old pickup truck coming to a stop came from out front.
Luz hurried back to the front, just to be sure it was who she thought it was, and sure enough, the old olive green 2004 Ford Davon drove was parked outside, a tarp over the back to both secure and hide what he'd been transporting. Since it was technically illegal in this state.
Rushing outside Luz ran over to the normal-sized boy as he climbed out of the cab and picked him up in a bear hug. "Davon! It's so good to see you!"
Davon cried and tried to push her off "Luz it's only been a week!"
She put him down and gave his shoulder a playful punch "I know, doesn't mean I can't miss my friend while he's transporting illegal firearms across the country."
Davon sighed but smiled as he turned to start taking the tarp off "Yeah, thanks for being worried Luz, give me a moment to get the stuff unloaded and we can start."
Luz nodded before turning around and going back inside. All her friends were together and ready to go with her back to a magical R rated world. Nervous still described how she felt but she was also excited. She couldn't wait to be back in a place she knew she belonged. Just a little longer, and she'd be there.
After Davon had unloaded his truck and gotten all the boxes and crates inside, Luz called for everyone to gather round in the living room of the old house where they had erected a door frame for Luz to open the door in. Since she didn't have a lot of personal practice it helped her to focus on where and how it would open.
"Alright everyone, we good to go?"
Getting nods from everyone present Luz smiled before nodding to Davon, "Okay man, get the stuff."
Davon smiled widely before opening one of the boxes. Inside were several old military uniforms and other pieces of equipment he'd brought along.
Luz took the offered uniform and went into the other room to change into it. The pattern was old, Davon said the Army had replaced it sometime in the '90s. The multi cam uniform fit her well enough, along with some brown combat boots and knee and elbow pads.
Luz wished she could wear her witches cape but she'd outgrown it two years after she came back and she didn't want to risk any of the Irreplaceable magic wool to try and resize it, meaning she had to opt just to take it with her and hope Eda could fix it. Provided she was still there…
Stepping back into the living room she found the rest dressed similarly, though Vee had just shapeshifted to match the appearance. Davon handed them all utility belts and 'webbing' next that clipped to their belts and went over their shoulders to clip gear onto.
Luz opted for a green beanie for head wear while Vee chose not to wear anything on her head.
Shaw wore a patrol cap while both Lincoln and Davon grabbed helmets. While Lincoln wore the current helmet the Army wore, Davon had opted to wear an old German helmet from the world wars with an American flag tied around it.
Lincoln and Davon had also opted to wear armored vests made from Kevlar, its weight meant that Luz, Vee, and Shaw had opted not to wear them and just let the boys go first.
With everyone dressed, Davon opened the next two boxes. Inside were several military backpacks that he handed out so everyone could fill them with supplies and equipment they'd be bringing just in case Luz couldn't open the portal near any place safe and they had to rough it.
While the second box, a wooden crate really, held what was really going to give them an advantage against The Emperor and his Coven. Guns.
The first two to come out were a pair of matching Glock 17s. In Davons words, they were 'matching Glocks for matching girls'. Simple and reliable 9mm handguns, they were meant for Luz and Vee since both had the most experience with Magic and felt the least comfortable using guns to start with.
Lincoln had brought his own that he'd already grabbed. A Ruger mini-14 with a large six times scope sat above the iron sights.
Davon pulled three more guns out, two rifles and a pistol to be exact. The first was an AR-15 with a laser, foregrip, and holo sight: that went to Shaw who immediately worked it over and cleared it. JROTC training kicking in.
Finally, Davon grabbed an old wooden M1 service rifle and M1911. Fitting considering he was wearing a helmet from the same war both weapons served in.
Finally, with all of them in camouflage and armed, Luz took a deep breath before walking over to a loose floorboard and pulling out the portal door hidden underneath. This was it, she was finally going to see her friends again. Eda, King, Willow, Gus… Amity…
"You okay Luz?"
Luz turned to see Vee standing behind her, a worried look on her face as Luz stood there shaking. "I… Yeah, I'm fine. Just nervous… Come on, let's do this."
Standing up Luz stepped back towards the door frame and held the key and door in front of her. "Please work."
Luz pushed the button on the key, causing the door to glow and fly out of her hand into the door frame. The door folded out, going from a briefcase to a full-sized door.
Slowly stepping forward Luz placed her hand on the doorknob. This was it, this had to work. Carefully she twisted the handle and pushed it open. As the door slowly creaked open Luz was greeted by the familiar black trunks and red leaves of the Boiling Isles.
Luz felt like she was out of breath. Overcome with joy to see the isles again.
Luz reached out to feel the thin layer of magic between her and the isles before she heard Shaw bark. "Lincoln move!"
Shaw and Lincoln pushed past her and ran through the door, weapons raised as they scanned the surrounding area. Next through were Davon and Vee who spread out behind them to secure the area.
Luz took a deep breath before she took a step forward and just like she was back in the Boiling Isles.
Amity stood at attention along with the dozen or so coven scouts under her command. In front of them stood the Golden Guard himself, slowly pacing up and down the line of Coven Scouts.
"I'm sure you're all wondering why I have graced you all with my presence today." He said smugly.
Amity rolled her eyes under her officer's mask.
"Yes sir, Golden Guard. Why have you come here today?" she said. Trying to keep the nerves from her voice.
He nodded before turning back to look at the whole line. "It has come to our attention that spies have managed to infiltrate the Emperor's Coven. I've been ordered to root them out."
Amity had to stop herself from gasping in alarm. Had she been found out, did they suspect her because of her short friendship with Luz?
"Then sir, shouldn't you be securing the Emperor's palace if these rebel spies are such a threat?"
"Don't be silly Leftenant." He turned back to face Amity "They never even made it close."
Amity once again had to fight to suppress the urge to respond to the Golden Guard's words. "M-my mistake Golden Guard."
"Nothing to be ashamed of, Leftenant, you merely had our Emperor's safety in mind. Now I'll need to have an interview with all of your scouts, as well as yourself, a formality I assure you. Until then you're all dismissed, I'll send for you when I have my schedule for my stay finished."
Amity nodded stiffly before gesturing for her Scouts to go about their duty while she turned to head back towards her office.
Once she had turned the corner and was out of sight of the Golden Guard, Amity blight slumped against the wall and placed a gloved hand on her forehead "Oh my Titan… I need to warn the others."
Amity hurried towards the rear exit of the building, planning to warn the rebels before the whole network could be blown open. She didn't know who was or wasn't a spy, but she could always leave a message at the drop point.
In her haste to leave she didn't notice the Golden mask just peeking around the corner as she fled. "Oh, Leftenant. It's a shame you picked the wrong side of this fight."
An old witch walked through the forests of the Titan's right arm, on his way towards the palm to visit his family.
He looked up, placing his hand to cover his eyes, the summer heat was coming down in full now and the limbs always had hot winds blowing in from across the boiling sea.
Looking back to the road, he went to continue on his way right as two young witches wearing strange clothes and carrying what looked like crossbows ran across the path and jumped into the tree line on the other side of the road. Bandits?!
Turning around, the man wanted nothing to do with these hooligans and decided to take a different route closer to the bone rather than anger highwaymen or wild witches.
As he set to back track up the road two more young Witches wearing the same dark green and brown clothes ran past, one carrying a Crossbow like the other two had while the second looked unarmed at this distance.
Turning around again, hoping to just speed through the area, the old witch came face to face with a fifth figure emerging from the forest and stopping in the middle of the road.
He raised his hands slightly and looked at the dark skinned young girl. "I don't mean you people any trouble, I'm just going to see my family." He said timidly.
Luz looked at him confused before quickly shaking her head and hands "No no no I'm sorry, we aren't bandits… actually we're lost, could you point us in the way of Bonesborough?"
The man let out a sigh of relief before looking back to the girl. "Your a long ways from Bonesborough lass. You're on the right arm right now."
Luz balked. She didn't realize how far away she's opened the portal. If they were going to get to Bonesborough at the left hip they'd have to travel across the whole Titan and right through the Emperors territory.
"Thank you sir. Have a good day." Without waiting for a response Luz ran off back into the woods after her friends.
She found them waiting for her in a small clearing just past the tree line.
"Luz, what took you so long, that witch give you trouble?" Shaw asked.
"No nothing like that, actually I think he thought we were bandits. But good news, I know where we are now, bad news, it's nowhere near where I wanted to go."
"Damn, so where are we?" Davon asked.
"The right arm," Luz said. "To get to Bonesborough we'll need to cross almost the whole Titan and pass across the chest or down to the pelvis, ether way could take days, but going east will take longer but it's safer, cutting across the chest would take us close to the Emperors Palace and I'd rather not do that until we can figure out what's going on right now."
The rest of them nodded along, neither option was a good idea but… they couldn't risk letting the Emperor discover four humans and a basilisk roaming around the isles just yet.
"So east?" Lincoln asked.
"East." The rest of them agreed.
"Alright guys let's get going." With that Luz and the others all turned northward and set off through the trees, following the path they'd just crossed back to the Titans torso, staying out of sight just in case.
As the sun set down below the top of the Titans skull Lilith sighed deeply, it had been a hard day, first the attack at dawn by the Emperor's coven and then the clean-up afterward.
If it hadn't been for the blight twin's spies they likely would not have come out on top. But that didn't mean they came out unscathed. Many witches and Demons had been injured or killed, mostly inexperienced new recruits but more than a couple of their more veteran fighters hadn't lived to see the dawn.
"It's not your fault you know."
Lilith turned to see Raine walking over to stand beside her. "We won, and the Knees safe. That's all that matters." Lilith said, trying to keep a straight face.
"Don't lie to me Lilith, I know somethings wrong."
She sighed once more before turning back to watch the sunset. "When I set out to lead this rebellion I did so thinking I could bring meaningful change to the Boiling isles. But now all it seems we do is hide up here on the knee and attack supply wagons. What's the point in this if we don't have a Titans hope of winning…"
"Lilith… because it's the right thing to do. Belos is a Tyrant that's oppressing the witches of the Isles. Someone needs to do something."
"Yes, maybe that's true. I just wish we could actually do something meaningful to show we aren't a lost cause."
Raine remained silent, having no idea what they could even try to do that would have the impact she wanted.
"Listen to me ramble. Tell me, how are the wounded?"
"Most of the injuries were minor and should be healed within the week, but that still leaves us at half strength unless we ask another base to expose themselves to take pressure off of us." They said, realizing that for any other base except the Knee to go public would be a death sentence.
"No, we continue to hold Belos' attention until we are ready, if we're ever ready. Until then let him think this is our last base, it's safer for the rest that way. And Raine… thank you, I see why Eda speaks so highly of you." With that said Lilith continued to stare across the great Titans decaying body as the last rays of the day's light vanished over the Titan's skull.
Right. So. Luz's dad… that's a thing. No idea how I'll handle that long term but I'll probably have a bit in a later chapter where Luz and Vee had to leave the Isles to go deal with that, ON TO OTHER STUFF!
Thank you to Sak-96 for your overwhelming support.
Now onto answering some questions that may arise.
First. The use of the spelling Leftenant instead of lieutenant. This was done on purpose, don't worry.
For those of you not up to date on gun laws. Yes many of those guns are illegal for them to own as they are pistols and as they are all under 21 it's extremely illegal for them to have those. That's one of many things that would make them illegal in our where Luz is from.
My choice of guns. I liked them shut up.
That's all I got. Until test time guys.
