Kyoya Shuzenji possessed the ultimate poker face. Nothing could rattle the second-year student and demolish his emotionless countenance, leaving many people wondering if anything could get under the teenager's skin.
'Fuck the spirits.'
One thing had the power to destroy the psychic's impenetrable defenses. The fickle forces who dictate luck, the divine spirits. They were the best at it, and along with causing misfortune for being very displeased, their focus remained solely on him.
'You're half an hour late, but it's okay, they'll understand.'
Kyoya's thoughts were interrupted by a deafening thunderclap. Pursuing it, a sharp flash of lightning made the gentle giant's heart skip a beat, afraid his hasty flight would incur the spirits' wrath.
Heavy shower? Check.
Missing phone? Check.
Soaking wet clothing? Check.
Late to dinner with his girlfriend and her parents? Triple check.
'Fuck you, spirits. Hating just because you couldn't keep this beast from getting a girlfriend, shameful.'
The rain was predicted, but it arrived sooner than foreseen. Kyoya was already on his way to Momo's home, but then there was larceny, and he was the closest hero. He thwarted the robbery, dodged the media, and continued on his way, but in his haste, he left his phone back at the dorms. With no way to let Kitty know of the situation, Kyoya grew more and more downcast as the spirits bullied him.
A cyan shooting star soared through the sky, but the master of the glow went ignored as his wishes made the spirits angrier, emphasized by the growl of thunder. There was no mercy for him.
'What else can go wrong?'
If only he knew. Hidden by the storm, a speedy projectile mirrored Kyoya's flight path, but since he had no way of seeing it until it was too late, the bird landed a successful attack on the psychic's face, using its small body as the projectile.
'Ahh, shit!'
Quirks that utilizes the brain to function come with a glaring weakness. Any blow to the head would disrupt the flow of psychokinesis and leave the user vulnerable for a while depending on the force of the blow. As a result of the collision, Kyoya plummeted fast.
'Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit!'
The ground was coming too fast for Kyoya's liking, and the storm didn't help him any. Thankfully, the blow to his head wasn't that bad, and Kyoya managed a smooth recovery. However, a couple of feet separated the mute from splatting into the ground. His life flashed before his eyes in that moment, and for a second, he was at the complete mercy of the spirits. It was disgustingly clear what they wanted.
'The spirits want me dead!'
Momo paced back and forth, staring at the grandfather clock standing in the foyer. She modeled a long light green dress with a chartreuse sash around the waist and white short-heeled pumps that clapped on the polished floors of her mansion.
'Where is he? Oh, I hoped nothing bad happened.'
The obvious worry on her face deepened as she stared at her phone, waiting for one of her multiple texts to be returned. An explanation or something was all she needed, but the more ticks of the clock that went by, the more silence she endured, and the tighter her chest wound up.
Their relationship had progressed to the stage where Momo's parents wanted to meet the psychic. It was a crucial moment, and Momo wanted things to go smoothly. She made sure Kyoya knew ahead of time to avoid panicking, but she could not foresee the weather being this ugly. It reminded her of the storm that brought her and Kyoya together, but this storm made her nervous. Not only was Kyoya late, something that did not go over well with her parents, but Momo had no idea if Kyoya was alright or not.
'Try to stay calm, Momo. He more than likely got caught in the rain. Everything's fine, just have faith.'
She took deep breaths, but it did nothing to calm her nerves. One downside she learned of having a mute boyfriend was the inability to talk over the phone. He could only grunt in affirmation or disagreement, not able to speak without hurting himself, and Momo didn't want him to go through that for her satisfaction.
'Oh, please don't let anything happen to my sweet teddy bear.'
Right on cue, the doorbell chimed, effectively halting Momo's pacing. She quickly answered, flinging the door open.
"Kyoya?" the words already left her glossy lips.
Standing before her was the mute teddy bear alright; however, he was looking worse for wear. Soaked to the bone and shaking like a leaf, Kyoya had a psychic umbrella shielding him from the rest of the elements, but the damages had already been done. His sopping wet clothes clung to his body, red hair covering his eyes, and a bruise on his cheek nearly sent Momo into a fit of rage.
"Kyoya!" she yanked the poor young man inside her warm abode, not caring he was making a puddle in her foyer. "Are you okay?"
The mute slicked his hair back to reveal his face. His grayish-brown eyes mirrored the storm outside, dark and cloudy, saddened by certain events.
"Sorry I'm late," he gave her a weak wave.
"Oh, Teddy," Momo reached up and placed a hand on Kyoya's bruised cheek, "What happened to you?"
Kyoya didn't want to talk about it. His phone and whiteboard, something he learned a few minutes ago, were left at his dorm, a bird knocked him out of the air and almost killed him, he was soaking wet, and he just wanted to disappear.
"I texted you, but you never responded, and then the storm happened, and I got worried."
"I'm sorry," he apologized again.
"It's okay," Momo sighed in relief, "Come on, let's get you out of those wet clothes," she took his hand and escorted the downcast Kyoya through the corridors, not even bothering to tell her parents, who watched their daughter take Kyoya to the bathroom.
"I'm just glad you're okay."
Kyoya was astonished by the size of the so-called bathroom.
'This is a hot spring, not a bathroom.'
"You can wash up here, and I'll get you some new clothes ready while your wet ones are drying."
"You don't need to do that."
"Look at yourself, Teddy. You'll catch pneumonia if you don't change and warm up. I don't mind letting you use my home, and you could use some spoiling from the looks of it."
"I don't think the spirits will let that slide."
Momo remembered that word in her letters. Whenever Kyoya mentioned something bad happening, he mentioned the spirits playing a part in it. Without asking for further explanations, Momo wrote it off as divine intervention.
"Hmph, well, if the spirits continue to bully my teddy bear, I will overshadow their assault by showering you with my love," she kissed his cheek to emphasize, "Take your time, relax, and get dressed. I'd still like for you to meet my parents. They'll love you."
Kyoya relented and accepted his girlfriend's gracious offer. A nice hot bath after his incidents would help clear his mind, especially getting over the fact a bird had nearly killed him, but Momo didn't need to know that.
"Thank you, Kitty."
"It's my pleasure, Teddy," Momo beamed and pulled him down for a quick kiss, "We promised to help each other in times of need, and you definitely need a little help, so wash up and come join us. We'll be waiting."
She left the mute alone in the massive bathroom. With nothing left to do, Kyoya freshened up.
Momo and Kyoya lived in different social classes. She was the high-class girl with no knowledge of the commoner's path, and while Kyoya wouldn't call himself low-class, he was unable to fathom the life of a high-class citizen. If not for the maids and butlers, the maze-like mansion would become his new home. Thankfully, Momo had the maids prepare his clothing, a black jacket over a tucked-in, closed white dress shirt, red tie, blue pants, white belt, and white shoes. One of the butlers escorted him to the dining hall. Along the way, the mute took in every detail, every painting, sculpture, wallpaper, etc. The fanciness of his surroundings made him uncomfortable.
'They gotta be real big on punctuality. You made them wait for basically an hour, so you're definitely not scoring any points today.'
"I've never seen the young mistress this happy in a long time," the butler, Hayate, spoke up, "When she mentioned a special guest was coming, the maids started making a fuss about it."
"Had my luck been better today, I wouldn't have been so tardy."
He smiled when the butler became startled. Scaring people with an unexpected voice in their head became a new favorite hobby.
'Maybe messing with the family will cheer me up.'
The Yaoyorozu family were seated at the dining table in anticipation of Kyoya's arrival. The entire time, Momo could not stop smiling and letting sparkles dance around her head. Her teddy bear was safe and sound, and that was all the mattered to her. Now, she had a mission. Her boyfriend was obviously distressed by his incident and needed comforting. Of course, as his girlfriend, it was her duty to alleviate his pain, and nothing helped more than cuddles. It would be cruel to send him home in the pouring rain, and although her parents weren't too keen on being kept waiting, they were not monsters.
'He has no choice but to stay the night.' Momo already had the night planned out. Some cuddling on the couch while he received her loving massages, they'd steal a couple, 'No,' a few, 'No,' several, 'NO,' a plethora of kisses here and there. Add in some light, scandalous handholding, and Momo could hardly contain herself. Of course, she was to hold herself in a manner befitting her family name.
'Screw manners, he needs cuddles! He needs his Kitty!'
Yes, there was nothing that could ruin the plans Momo had in store.
That is until darkness suddenly washed over the mansion. Then, a bunch of screams rang out, followed by a loud crash and the sound of things breaking.
"Oh my god! Are you alright?!"
The only response was a familiar mute's painful groans.
