"What?" Adrian stared at Sydney with a 'what the f***' look on his face. Said girl crossed her arms. "You heard me." she said firmly. Adrian shook his head. "Could...could you repeat that?" I had done it. I had done what I was terrified of doing for so long. I'd made her leave. Everything I'd tried to change about myself had chased her off. I felt helpless. I felt weak. And more than anything, as she walked out that door, I felt dead, heartbroken. The words felt so pathetic on my lips, even before I said them. But I said them. "Please Don't Go". (Warning: OOC-ness)

This little ficlet popped into my head when I read the end of The Fiery Heart and that teaser chapter for Silver Shadows that came after. Having now read Silver Shadows, I realize every bit of this goes against canon, but I'm going to leave it up anyway. It's just a little vision I had of one of the possible endings to Sydney's re-education.

Adrian is ready to take the next step in his relationship with Sydney but before he can pop the question and get down on one knee, he has to ask Jared Sage, a cold and brooding man, for his daughter's hand in marriage. Jared's response is not one Adrian wants to hear so what does Adrian do in return?
