Author's Notes: So yeah the English essay I've been working on is finished so there will be more frequent chapters.
Logan rolled over and rubbed his eyes before sitting up. He silently put on his shoes and quietly left the room so Nico wouldn't wake up. He squinted his eyes since they were still adjusting to the light in the hallway. He opened the door and the sun's glare blinded him. Stumbling out into the courtyard he sat down at a picnic table and pulled a picture of his family out of his pocket. He looked over the picture and sighed putting it away. He was almost sure they had died when the Whisperers set their home on fire considering he barely made it out himself. The image of Lukas' throat getting slit still haunted him and the last time he saw Cecily and Ashlyn before the floor collapsed beneath them and fell into a burning room. Logan put the picture back in his pocket and wondered if he would ever find out what happened to any of them after the last time he saw them. The curiosity was eating away at him. Logan was ripped from his thoughts when Omar came outside. Omar waved to Logan before heading over to his pot and making some form of breakfast or snack. Willy came out shortly after and went up to the lookout post.
Eventually, everyone was out there and eating breakfast except for Nico.
"So how are Henry and Mary doing?" Logan asked.
"They're still asleep but Ruby said she was fine," Anne replied.
"Mary would probably be awake by now if the little serial killer didn't fucking shoot him," Logan mumbled.
"Dude he's just a kid he doesn't know any better," Bethany deflected.
"Well at least he didn't shoot Mary in the head like he did to that Marlon kid," Anne replied.
"Yeah they actually got kicked out, but then he got shot and then everyone just kinda forgot about it apparently or want to pretend that it never happened," Logan added.
They finished breakfast and got up to clean out the bowls.
"Anyone here want to go fishing?" Violet asked.
"I will," AJ answered.
"So will I," Logan replied.
"Oh wow really with him?" Anne whispered.
"Well we gotta kinda pull our weight, we are kinda eating their food after all," Logan replied, "And it probably won't be for long given the legion of killers roaming around the woods with gatling guns."
They set out on their way to the little fishing shed. Logan was almost disturbed by how he saw AJ practically unresponsive when he saw a vulture eating a dead walkers guts. They made it to the shack and went inside. Upon entering they were greeted with the little bedding that Logan and the others set up a few days back.
"Oh damn," Logan muttered, "This shit totally slipped my mind."
"Swear," AJ said.
Logan started piling the stuff into their bags while Violet and AJ began fishing. After he finished he realized that Maren was gone. The only trace was a few pieces of rope. He panicked knowing that it would be easy for her to find the school and knowing she could come back and be a problem. He decided he would keep it to himself for now and say something later. Then he picked up a spear and joined them. He saw a fish and tried to get it with the spear, but missed and hit the bottom of the creek instead.
"Damn," Logan muttered.
"Yeah it's no walk in the park," Violet replied.
Logan saw another fish and got ready to strike. He stuck his spear in the river too soon and the fish swam out of the way.
"Oh come on!" Logan moaned.
He saw another one and used all his strength in an attempt to get the fish. His spear broke and he fell into the river.
AJ and Violet watched the whole thing and burst out laughing.
"Fuck," Logan muttered sitting up.
Logan reached for a spear and realized it broke.
"Does life just hate me?" Logan asked.
A bunch of fish suddenly came along and mowed down Logan into the creek once more.
"How the?" Logan babbled as he pulled a fish from his shirt, "Are fish actually critical thinkers now?"
AJ was still laughing hysterically and Violet had gone back to fishing. Logan groaned as he threw the fish in the bucket and got out of the river to sit on the bridge. A huge gust of wind ruffled the branches and made Logan shiver. Logan heard some rustling behind him and turned around.
A bunch of members of the Militia wearing salvaged SWAT armor were pointing guns at them. Gregory chuckled as he stepped out from behind the men.
"I must say you put on quite the show!" Gregory chuckled, "Maybe I'll keep you as a Jester once you kids are back at my home."
"Hold on, no!" Logan retorted.
Gregory's devilish smirk turned into a scowl.
"Don't punish the offender, use others as a means to teach a lesson, to instruct fear," Gregory muttered.
Gregory pointed at Violet and a soldier grabbed her.
"Alright," Gregory exclaimed, clapping his hands, "Let's start at step one! Beating the shit out of our guests. Barnaby messed this up last time so we are going to make sure someone competent does it."
A soldier stepped forward and pulled out her knife. Violet broke out of the soldier's grasp and stabbed him with her knife. Five soldiers dogpiled her immediately grabbing her and pulling her on her feet.
"Oh how I wish you didn't do that," Gregory sighed.
Gregory whipped out his pistol and shot her square between the eyes. The soldiers let go of Violet and her corpse fell to the ground. Gregory chuckled wildly.
"Oh we really nailed that fucker," Gregory snickered, "Oh the 'I'm a badass act'! This goes for everyone especially those last two shits over there. You are not the main characters of a movie or game! You ain't got shit for plot armor and life most certainly doesn't give a single fuck about you! There is no place where you are safe and most certainly no place where you can hide from me!"
AJ was quivering as guards picked him up.
"Ah well I mean he's not too old plenty of time to show him the error of his ways. It may be gaslighting, but I assure you we are doing this poor boy a service! As for the Jester, let him run back to his friends, give them a warning that we will dominate them and they will work for us!" Gregory proclaimed to rousing applause, "But let's not have him go home empty-handed!"
Soldiers pushed Logan towards Gregory and dropped him.
"I'd say that I'm sorry to do this, but I'm not," Gregory whispered before he slammed Logan's head into a tree.
The soldiers wildly applauded and cheered as they ditched Logan on the bridge and headed home.
