One Bite
The circular moon in the sky lit up the cruxes of the sand dunes, tinted a warm shade of blue to reflect the equally cobalt sky- the lighter shade of azure that meshed in near the bottom, the sight of it obstructed by hills of sand, was a sure sign that the sun was on standby, impatiently awaiting for its time to shine.
Running through the desert at top speed was none other than the Super Spot-Billed Duck Troop, and mounting said birds as they zoomed through the sandy terrain were the Straw hats.
"This is nice," Zoro remarked, his hands crossed over his chest. Even at the rapid speed they were moving at, he didn't feel a need to take hold of the leather reins.
"So this is finally farewell to the sand kingdom…" Usopp looked up to the sky, a stream of salty tears streaming from his eyes. Even in the freezing night, he was content with his usual attire of just his brown denim overalls, with the exception of the striped armband he had donned for many years and the thick white cloak that the others wore to conceal their identities.
He turned his head and deadpanned when he found his captain gnawing at another chunk of meat. "Hey, Luffy, when are you gonna stop eating?"
Instead of answering Usopp's fair question, he turned to Sanji as he dug his teeth into his meat. "The Alabasta dishes are great! Make them sometime"
"Yeah" He nodded, making sure not to lose control of the reins "I was interested too, so I got some recipes from Terracotta-san. Some spices too."
"Nami, are you feeling sick?" Chopper had to yell in order for his high voice to reach over to Nami on the other end of the line, as well as to be heard over the synchronized stomping of the ducks' palmate feet. When he looked over his shoulder, he noticed the melancholy expression on her face, and as the ship's doctor, he had to make sure she was alright.
Nami didn't respond though. She kept her head down, her eyes downcasted and staring at her hands that held a tight grip on the reins. She was practically as still as a statue, or would be, had it not been for the way she bobbed up and down or the way her cloak and hair flew behind her with the dust.
At Chopper's concern, Luffy turned his head to look at his navigator. Luckily, Sanji's head had barely hindered the sight of her.
She didn't look sick. Compared to on Drum, she looked fine, health-wise. Still though, she wore a sullen frown and her eyes were full of desolation and sadness, though no tears were shed, nor did they gloss over her eyes, giving them a wet and shiny appearance.
Luffy decided he didn't like that look. Not at all. Her face was bleak and still. He pondered over what to say to perhaps cheer her up, until he had an idea. He would have never considered this an option for just anybody… "Nami, do you want a bite of my meat? Just one bite, though" ...but for her, he'd make an exception.
Still though, his willing offer was met with silence.
A/N: Okay I know this is a super super short one, but I hope you still enjoyed. Please make sure to R&R! Also, as I said last chapter, don't expect me to update for a little while, as I am going through the episodes. Also, I am in the middle of writing another fanfiction- it will be a one-shot (perhaps split into 2-3 parts depending on how I feel). This fic will be my top priority, though I'd like to start making more progress.
