Chapter 30: Future King
"Gomu gomu no…" Luffy's foot jutted upward, akin to the Giant Jack, extending farther than any one human's leg should. "Battle Axe!" Finally yielding to gravity, his bare foot crashed down square onto Enel's gut. With no time to strike back, dodge, or even react for that matter, he fell down into the Maxim's wooden deck, penetrating the floor with the impact of his large body.
A cloud of wreckage veiled the damaged area. Nami stared incredulously. Just moments before, it seemed Enel had the upper hand after easily discovering all of Luffy's weak points, but that move had surely caused the 'God' a great sum of damage.
Even with the majority of the debris clearing out with a light breeze, the now broken wood where Enel had plummeted seemed still. Too still. As if calling out her bluff, a ring of taiko drums erupted from the wood, and what followed suit was his pale face. "How dare you, brat?!" He ferociously yowled as he pathetically squirmed in his hole, his pasty arms constantly being pricked by the now sharp ends of the wooden planks.
"Gomu gomu no gatling!" Luffy yelled again from his position in mid-air. True to his announcement, his rubber arms rapidly stretched down, his hands clenched into fists, giving the appearance–and sensation– of tens of hundreds of punches raining down.
Enel clicked his tongue. Obviously, wiggling around wasn't fixing anything. He stared up at the teen with the determined look on his face with half lidded eyes. No matter how focused he actually was, his tired eyes would forever look onward with boredness. He watched as the fists showered down on him, though he remained unfazed. He reached both arms up- his only freed limbs- and caught his wrists.
Luffy's teeth clenched when he felt warm hands wrap around his wrists, short nails dug into his rubber skin. Like his leg had done mere moments before, Luffy came plummeting down. Enel whipped his outstretched arms down into the wood, feet next to his own pitiful hole, forcing him to crash head-first into the deck, allowing Enel to jump out of his own.
"It's not as if your arms multiplied!" He expertly explained in midair. Using Luffy's collision to his advantage, he fell softly onto the thick rail and walked away from the scene.
"Luffy!" Nami screeched in horror. Her confidence dropped ten-fold for the umpteenth time. No matter how many times it seemed Luffy would win, Enel retaliated with a stronger, smarter attack. A sense of hopelessness and dread began to rise. At this point, winning seemed like a far away dream- impossible, unattainable…a dream.
"Sightseeing on a sky island…" Enel mocked as he strutted across the wide deck, twirling his golden staff "What a bad time to come, Blue Sea people". On the way to his throne, he sent a smug glance to the dejected Nami as he wiped a smudge of debris off his cheek. "I'm God, so I'll do everything as I please"
He looked to Nami, who silently stared up at the rectangular exit above, blinding rays of light shone through the remnants of construction from above. "I will create a world according to my desires. I won't let some clueless Blue Sea brat that suddenly showed up get in my way!" He turned away and made his way to his personal seat again.
"Now then, how about we watch the fall of this nation together?" He proposed as he walked up the steps. He leaned his newly formed trident on the golden wall behind him and gripped the golden balls on the ends of the armrests without sitting down. He gave a boisterous chuckle, though it was void of any pure fun, just evil, malicious amusement.
Nami's eyes widened. She stayed silent until she conjured up just enough resolution to gasp in disbelief "Don't tell me..!"
"Max 200 Million Volt Vaari!" He roared. Suddenly, the seemingly useless balls he gripped became shrouded in blue sparks. The lighting traveled up the presumed decorative wall, following the path of gold, and filled the large glass tank that sat in the middle of the vessel. Luffy finally woke from the lightning's thunderous crackles and the blinding light it emitted. He weakly crawled from the large pit, luckily no part of him was stuck.
Suddenly, the propellers on the sides, front, and back of the ship began to spur, rotating like an operating gear.
Aisa's jaw fell to the ground and her eyes practically bulged from her eyes, Pierre reacted in practically the same way.
"Horsey-bird! The ship is moving! What're we gonna do?!" The Shandian girl wailed, but the polkadotted creature could only reply with a deafening squawk. Deciding Pierre was useless- in terms of communicating- Aisa inhaled an excessive amount of air through her mouth, cupped her hands and placed them to her mouth and bellowed "Luffy! Nami!" Her ear-piercing calls were met with nothing but the sound of propellers spinning.
"Behold! It's rising!" Enel sonorously remarked with a pleased grin "The ark that will take me to the land without the end, the Endless Vearth…Maxim!"
Unsteady on its rounded bottom, Nami's waver that she had trailed with her tipped over, startling her in her spooked state.
"I-It's rising…" Aisa gasped with a shaky voice as the ark hovered over the ground, flying higher and higher by the second.
"Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no!" Nami whispered in denial, her voice an alien volume compared to her loud and usual demanding tone. "We have to escape!" Her downcasted eyes rose to Luffy who stood on the other side of the deck. He fearlessly stumbled back to his feet after crawling to escape his hole. His hat was tightly grasped in one hand, leaving his messy black hair exposed to the blinding sun above the shaft they slowly but surely rose from.
'Luffy! Hurry up and beat Enel already!' She fearfully commanded in her head. Some small boulders fell from the sky, luckily missing everyone on the ship.
Her hands rose from the smooth wood floor to the sides of her head "Ahhh! W-W-Wait a second!" She remembered, making her waver "If Enel is defeated, won't that mean this ark will fall? Ah, but unless he's defeated, the sky island will be gone!" She could feel her conflicting thoughts practically rip her head apart "And if we stay here… we'll be taken somewhere…" Nami looked back from the floor again to the large propeller in the back that carved away at the side of a wall that made up the pit. The mystery to the falling rocks was solved.
"What are we going to do, Luffy?!" Nami helplessly cried out in hopes that her absent-minded captain had somehow come up with a plan to fix all their dilemmas. Instead, he wordlessly tossed his hat over to her, the headwear landed perfectly on her head. She used a single finger to push up the brim that shielded her vision and looked to Luffy.
"Don't get so rattled" He cooly said. He didn't sound fazed by the situation at all.
She removed the hat.
"How can I not..?!" She reasoned, her scratched fingers subconsciously gripped the bristled brim with unrestrained strength.
"You're a friend of the future King of the Pirates" He elucidated with a soothing voice, the low volume made the low growl in his voice-that was always present, just hidden by his usually loud and flamboyant timbre- very apparent. "Don't show such a pitiful face."
His blunt command as captain, or rather, future King of the Pirates, silenced her, and without even realizing it, her worries that threatened to leave her with a terrible migraine disappeared.
A/N: Wow guys I'm glad to be back. I'm really sorry for leaving for so long, it wasn't my intention, but what with school and my terrible time-management, along with the lack of LuNa scenes in Skypiea, I just couldn't make any new chapters. In terms of the one-shot, I'm almost done. It's a bit longer than I intended it to be, but I think it's really good. Anyways, please R&R it would really give me motivation to keep going.
I really love making these and compared to my first few chapters, I think my writing has really improved...or at least I think it has.
Hope you enjoyed this chapter and hopefully the next one will come out pretty soon. I can write these fics pretty quuick, it just depends on the pacing of the anime/manga so yeah. Okay I've dragged this on for far too long now. Please have a good day/night!
