Chapter 2: Diagnosis

Today was the big day for Izuku. It wasn't just his birthday, but Hero Recovery Girl was visiting Musutafu Village to evaluate all the young children of the village. To determine what their magic will be if they haven't already discovered it. Izuku and his mother had just arrived at the village Doctors home when they ran into the old mer none other then Recovery Girl in her human form.

"Oh, Inko its good to see you again," said Recovery Girl leaning on her cane.

"Hero Recovery Girl its an honor," bowed Izuku's mother.

"And this must be little Izuku," grinned Recovery Girl at the little greenette who was practically vibrating with excitement.

"We're here to get his evaluation done Hero Recovery Girl," said Inko.

"Then you arrived just in time my dear," said Recovery Girl as she opened the door "I just got back from my break."

Recovery Girl the lead Mother and Son to small room where a couple of chairs were set up in front of a slightly bigger one.

"Go ahead and sit down, then we'll get started," said Recovery Girl pointing to the smaller chairs. Izuku then happily hopped into his with his mother sitting right next to him. Recovery Girl sat into the larger chair in front of Izuku and started to explain the procedure.

"Now I will evaluate your magic by using my own to prod your magic core which will respond with an image of your core," explained Recovery Girl "The shape and the color of your core will tell me what type of magic you have."

Izuku nodded in acknowledgement barely being able to hold still.

Recovery Girl chuckled as she placed her hands on Izuku's forehead "Well let's get started then."

Recovery Girl then closed her eyes and her hands started to glow a subtle pinkish white. Not long after her eyebrows furrowed before the glowing stopped and she opened her eyes.

"Izuku I'm going to need to talk to your mother in private for a moment, ok?" asked Recovery Girl "You can wait outside on the bench."

Izuku gave a confused look before nodding and headed out the door.

Once she was sure that Izuku had left Recovery Girl spoke up with worry "I'm sorry Inko but, its as you feared. He has a leviathan core and from what I can tell he has the same magic as his father."

Inko looked shocked but sighed "I had a feeling that he had tampered with the egg by using his magic. I was hoping he would at least be able to keep his human form, right?!"

Recovery Girl sighed and looked even more sullen "Unfortunately no, from what I can tell his body is already absorbing what little mana that's left in his eggshells that he keeps around his neck, just to maintain his current form. My guess is that with what little mer magic I was able to detect he should be able to maintain a mer form with little to no mana."

"That just means once he runs out, he'll become mana starved and go into a mana craze," said Inko as tears started to form in her eyes.

"You'll need to tell him his eggshells will only last him till he's maybe 9 or 10 years old," said Recovery Girl "He'll need to be sent to his uncle in UA so that he can learn to control his urges or at least have one of the other council members imbue a powerful crystal with mana so that it can last him a few more years as his mana dependency increases."

Inko sighed "I don't want to tell him that he's a leviathan hybrid. He'd be distraught as he's always thought that he was a human mer hybrid. I think we should move to UA so that he can get a constant supply of mana crystals. I know they sell plenty of low-quality ones there at a decent price. If what Masaru says is true from his business travels to the port city."

"He's going to find out eventually Inko," scolded Recovery Girl "He has the same magic as his father. Mana Crystals will only last him so long before they will barely satiate his core and start effecting his mind."

"I'll figure it out," answered Inko "I always do."

"I hope you can for our sakes," sighed Recovery Girl "Well we can let Izuku back in and tell him whatever lie your going to give him."

Recovery Girl left to go escort Izuku back into the room.

Once Izuku sat back down Inko spoke up "Dear, I'm not sure how to say this but, your magic core is dead."

Izuku looked to his mother shocked and confused tears starting bead his eyes "W-What do you mean my core is dead mom?"

"Basically, Izuku your core can't produce its own mana, nor hold it for a very long," explained Recovery Girl.

"So, basically… I'm Magicless?" asked Izuku tears starting to flow.

"Pretty much," said Inko reaching over to hug her son "I'm so, so sorry."

"So that your health doesn't deteriorate from mana loss you will always need to carry around a mana crystal, so that your core can passively absorb its mana," explained Recovery Girl.

"Hero Recovery Girl, W-Will I-I die if I don't get enough mana?" sniffled Izuku.

"Despite what they say about dead cores," explained Recovery Girl "No, you will not die however, you will gradually become extremely weak and able to do most people can do now a days with magic or mana aiding in their health."

"So, because of that we will be moving to UA here in about roughly a week," said Inko.

"UA?" asked Izuku trying to hold back his tears.

"Yes," said Inko "They have a massive supply of mana crystals at a decent price."

"Oh, ok," said Izuku. In his head he's excited that he'll be going to UA, but his core doesn't work right will he still be able to be a hero. 'Maybe I can at least be a guard… I hope' thinks Izuku.

1 week later –

Izuku and Inko were packing their carriage that they are barrowing from the Bakugo's that are close family friends of Inko's. Their driver was Masaru Bakugo, a shy brown-haired human man who was Mitsuki Bakugo's husband.

"You have everything Inko?" asked Mitsuki a tall blond-haired, red eyed dragon woman in her human form.

"I've double and triple checked," answered Inko.

"Do you know where you will be staying?" asked the worried Mitsuki.

With a chuckled Inko answered "We're going to be fine Mitsuki. A family friend in UA was nice enough to by us a small home in the city. He even was able to get a job lined up for me when I get there."

"Ok, fine," sighed Mitsuki before turning to her husband who was tending to the horses "You better as hell get them to UA safely Masaru!"

Masaru chuckled before answering "Don't worry dear we'll be safe and sound. The roads to UA are normally heavily guarded."

As the adults were talking back behind the carriage was Izuku and a blonde haired and red eyed boy who was the spitting image of Mitsuki.

"Of course, you of all people would be Mana Dead Deku," scoffed the boy.

"Kacchan that's not nice…" said Izuku sullen.

"Well at least you could be a guard at my agency when I become a hero. You can at least do that much right Deku?" grinned Kacchan with a mix of an annoyed sigh.

"Right!" answered Izuku cheering up.

"Izuku, Katsuki," yelled Inko "It's time for us to go!"

Both boys let out a sad sigh before rushing to their parents.

"Good luck Inko, Izuku. Both of you please be safe," said Mitsuki as Inko lifted Izuku up into the carriage "And you better fucking be sending us letters regularly."

"J-Just to be sure you are doing alright," added Katsuki.

Izuku giggled "Don't worry I will make sure we will!"

As they made their last goodbyes they were off to the great port city of UA.
