Her creation changed Aperture Laboratories forever. She became one with the facility and granted sentience to its inventions. They admired her as their leader and obeyed her every order. It was a strange relationship what they had developed, but they all were loyal to her. Surprisingly enough, she was loyal to them too.

As perseverant as Chell is, she's still a human, and humans need their sleep. That means her android companion is alone with his thoughts for a while; But being Wheatley, he can't keep them all to himself. (Geekenders-inspired)

When the cores fall back to Earth, Chell gives Wheatley one last chance, but GLaDOS has other ideas. For science and revenge, she uses him as a subject for the most traumatic experiment she can think of: changing an undying robot into a mortal human.
