Later that day, Peter and Gwen were working with Dr. Miles Warren at the lab.
"I'm still worried about Harry." Gwen said.
Peter replied, "I am too, but there's nothing we can really do. It's up to him
if he wakes up or not."
"Do you really think that's how coma's work?"
"It's hard to say, but I like to think he's dreaming right now."
"Let's just hope it's a good dream."
Dr. Warren approached them.
"Good job you two, you've been very useful assets over the last week."
"Thanks. So can we please know what the project is now?" Gwen asked.
"Very well, I suppose you deserve to know. We're working on a DNA project.
The sequences you've helped me with are from all sorts of species,
spiders, tigers, jackals…"
"No lizards I hope." said Peter.
"Of course not, that was Dr. Connors' specialty. Moving on though, I need
the both of you to visit ESU. My associate has certain DNA codes that
will complete the research."
"You got it Doc, where are we looking?" Gwen wondered.
"Go to room number 254 in the science building and look for a Dr. Radman.
Just tell him I sent you, he'll know what you're there for."
They left the lab for the college via taxi, as swinging Gwen around in broad daylight
wouldn't exactly be keeping a secret identity safe.
When they got there, Eddie spotted the two through the glass and met them outside the door.
"Hey guys, what are you both doing here?" he said.
"We're here to pick up some research for Dr. Warren." Gwen responded.
"Alright, come on in." said Eddie.
"So that's Carnage? I'm surprised the police are letting you keep it here." Peter said.
Dr. Radman walked over. "That name is a bit crude for it, but yes the creature
can only be contained in this type of chamber and
we've had it completely secured."
"Fascinating, but doesn't the creature distract students while you teach?" asked Gwen.
"They're used to seeing it in here, the only difference is now it moves around a little while they work." said Dr. Radman. "So I assume you're both here for Miles Warren?"
Peter nodded and said yes.
"Alright, let me get the research for him."
Just then the lab door flew open and a 5 foot 2 teenage girl came into the room.
"Dad! Help me out here, the driver's ed teacher said I had to
start practicing, can I use your car?" said the girl.
Radman responded, "Hang on a minute, I'm in the middle of something.
Come meet Gwen and Peter, they go to your school."
She walked up to them and waved quickly. "Hi." Then she turned around
and said, "Can I use your car now?"
Dr. Radman replied, "Alright, just one second." He turned towards Gwen and Peter and
gave them the research.
"I apologize, this is my daughter, Delilah. She's just a little
impatient right now because she wants to learn how to drive."
Delilah cut in, "I am in the room you know!"
Radman said, "Okay, okay, I'm coming with you though. Eddie, close down the lab
before you leave." Then he and his daughter left the room.
"That was a little awkward, huh?" said Peter.
Eddie responded. "That's Delilah Carmine, she's adopted.
It's normally pretty quiet in here until she rolls around.
Can't say I blame her though, the Doc's always in the lab and never at home with her."
Eddie walked away and turned on a radio in the room.
"Well, you guys want to help me close the place? It's actually kinda fun when you blast the radio
and just go with the music."
"Sure thing." said Gwen.
"What about you, Pete?" said Eddie
"Ah, why not?" Peter said with a shrug.
They hung out for a good 20 minutes while cleaning the floor and rocking
some Black Eyed Peas. As they were finishing up, Eddie said,
"Thanks guys, this takes way longer when you're alone."
"So Eddie, how's college?" asked Gwen.
"Oh, it's a trip alright. I'm majoring in Chemistry.
Hoping to be a scientist myself someday, not easy though."
"So you did get back in?" Peter asked.
"The symbiote has a lot of scientific potential, now that it's alive there's a lot of interest
from the higher ups. They gave me a scholarship."
"Chemistry, huh? I take the same class at Midtown, this can't be
that much worse." Peter replied.
"It is. I've been taking pretty much all math classes lately, physics,
calc, that sort of thing. And when I'm not here I've got a job at the
warehouse a few blocks away."
"Oh man, I had no idea college was so tough." said Gwen.
"All worth it though. Because when I graduate, I'm set for life." Eddie replied.
The song they were listening to ended, and the radio host started talking with a relaxed and easygoing voice.
"And you're gonna want to avoid interstate 86, police have been
all over some bank heist. Let's hope they catch the lunatic.
Here's another banger by Owl City, new song Fireflies coming at you on Z100."
Peter noticed the mention of a robbery.
"Guys, I gotta go um… wait a minute both of you know. Spider stuff, see you around."
as he left the campus in a hurry.
"He told you!?" Eddie said to Gwen.
"I figured it out on my own actually, awhile ago." she said.
Eddie sighed heavily, then responded.
"Well just be careful ok, Pete's strong but he's not invincible.
It's gonna be dangerous being around him now that you know."
"So... you're Venom, huh?"
"I was, not anymore. Sorry for the thing with the parade float."
"Wait a minute, the rehabilitation..."
"What about it?"
"It wasn't drugs you were trying to stay away from… was it?" she said.
"The alien was an addiction, it wasn't easy leaving it behind, let alone killing it a few days ago."
"That's what has me worried." Gwen said.
Elsewhere…
Peter got out of sight and climbed to the roof of Empire State University.
Then, he got changed and Spider-Man swung towards the crime scene.
4-5 cop cars had the bank surrounded, but they were waiting for him to come out.
A tall green guy with a poisonous tail literally leaped out of the building and into the middle of the street. He shouted, "You want me? Here I am!"
Author's Note:
This was more of a "day in the life" type chapter that I tried to give a lot of relatability to the real world. The first fight scene is coming up, and it's getting more of a build up than in Threads of Chaos. I also added more dialogue than usual per request, but don't worry, the fast paced action is on it's way.
