That night, another celebration rang through Rainbow Forest. Every animal was excited by the news that Queen Flamesong was now free of her illness. It also gave the monarchs a sense of relief. The egg would now be further protected by both parents. However, the food had to be supervised by Ester and Rabbit who bravely volunteered to make sure it doesn't happen again. In a few minutes before food could be served, Rabbit discovered a strange-looking black weed that had spines along the tips. "Ugh! What is that!?"
He tried to pick it up, but it twitched. He leaped away. "Ester!" Rabbit frantically looked around until he found a large fork. In one swift movement, he stabbed it. He ran to the unicorn who was adding a few basil leaves on a cake. "Ester! I found this in a sealed drawer!"
Ester looked closely at the struggling weed. Her eyes widened in shock. "I know this plant!" She glanced around to make sure no one else was listening. She gently pulled out a jar and placed it on the table. "Toss it in here. I'll bring it to the king once this is over."
Rabbit did just that. He tried not to throw up once it was put away. He shivered and walked away to join his friends with the festivities. He found relief as he heard music being played. Animals dancing to music. Flutes and birds chirped. Drums rumbled in the sky. Random voices relaxed and filled with laughter. Rabbit looked around to see each of his friends having a good time.
Pooh talking to Queen Flamesong and King Moonsoul. The egg nestled between the two. He even recited the song for them. Piglet made flower crowns with one of King Giadon's escorts. Eeyore was avoiding getting wet by a few water spells. Tigger and Roo of course were showing off their bouncing skills. Kanga watched on in delight. Owl and Kessy chatting with some fellow birds. Lumpy and Lacy made funny noises together. Gopher grimaced and dug his way through the crowd to grab a seat.
Rabbit sighed. "Hopefully this night could mean that our troubles are over and we can head back home soon." He looked around the forest. It sparkled and gleamed even though some of the trees have now lost their leaves for the winter. A sudden thought occurred to Rabbit. "I wonder what it would look like in the winter time."
"With the leaves gone, the bark and snow would take on a prismatic hue."
Rabbit nearly jumped out of his skin when he turned around. It was Rubella. The firebird was perched on a tree branch above Rabbit's head. "Forgive me," She said. "I'm not much of a talker." She flew down and landed in front of Rabbit. "I notice you were a little tense. Still worrying about the Dark Dream King?"
Rabbit found his hand rubbing against his neck. "Yes...I just hope that we would be able to return home without constantly having a Chimera at our front door. Or worse…" He cringed at the idea of the Skullasaurus tearing up his garden and everyone's houses trying to find them. Yet, he couldn't tell Rubella about the root he found. He didn't want anyone to fly into a panic just yet. He shook himself. "It's best not to spoil the celebration with that sort of talk. So tell me. How do you celebrate in w-"
His words were cut off when Ester kicked a large bell that was dangling next to her. "Everyone." She said in a joyful manner. "I would like to announce that dinner is ready."
Cheers and cries of happiness flooded the room. A stampede was heading straight for Rabbit. He covered his eyes. His body braced for impact. Suddenly, he felt claws touching him and lifted off the ground. He looked down to realized that Rubella had saved him just in time before he got trampled. He sighed. "Thank you, Rubella."
"Anytime." Rubella said with a smile. "Now...Let's get a move on before the food gets cold." She brought Rabbit to his chair and began to enjoy a hot bowl of green pea soup.
Pooh of course sat next to King Moonsoul and the egg. He hummed his usual tunes as he began to eat his honey. The sweet taste brings joy to his mouth. His toes tapped to the melodies of the birds and wolves. He looked around to see everyone having a great time. All he could see were smiles and laughter. Then, Pooh turned his attention to the egg. It was the only thing that bothered him. He knows it won't hatch for a little while longer but he could help but think it wasn't fair. "You should be having fun too." Suddenly, there was a bright flash in the sky. He turned his gaze upward and gasped. There were shooting stars in the sky along with a full moon. "King Moonsoul! Look!"
Moonsoul gazed into the direction of where Pooh pointed. His eyes widened in shock. "Dear! It's happening!"
"What?!" Flamesong said in shock. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "Impossible! It's not until the next few weeks."
Crack! Pooh nearly jumped out of his seat. He looked back at the egg. The red-orange shell already formed a long, jagged crack in its center. "Your Majesties!"
