Chapter Six: Possession

Sometimes, Katsuki wondered if Deku knew what he did to people. Did he know how a simple smile and a few kind words could gain him someone's trust for eternity? Did he know how his naivety made others drawn to him? Forced them to want nothing more than to protect him?

He didn't know. At least not all of it.

Katsuki could tell because Deku's expressions had always been easy to read, and his thoughts too. The boy had an insufferable habit of mumbling that Katsuki had long given up trying to get out of him. It would be a dangerous habit in a fight.

And Katsuki knew because, when the class had foolishly elected Deku as president, the green-haired boy had been genuinely surprised, and had vowed to do his best. He'd never been one to go back on a vow.

Then, Katsuki had known even more when the sirens had been calmed by Glasses, and Deku had surrendered his position as leader. He didn't seem to realize that just made everyone want to follow him more. Katsuki cringed, imagining the pressure of expectations.

He might've even been slightly relieved that he hadn't won something for once.

Next, there was the ride on the bus, which had been interesting to listen in on until they started mentioning Katsuki's terrible personality and Deku's 'Quirk'.

"He's Quirkless you dumbasses!" But nobody would listen. He supposed he should take into account the conversation him and Deku had had yesterday. Deku had mentioned a 'burrowed' power. Which just made Katsuki think he was making excuses, or that he was saying he was still Quirkless but wanted everyone else to believe he wasn't.

Katsuki just thought it was all pointless. Deku was not like All Might. Deku would not lie, especially not to Katsuki. He'd never outright lied to Katsuki.

So Katsuki didn't think he had a Quirk, but he supposed he probably shouldn't have brought up something secret. He might've been glad that the extras were too busy discussing his garbage personality to question Deku's 'Quirk'.

He most certainly was not happy to hear Thirteen talking about the dangers of Quirks.

Katsuki wouldn't ever forget the dangers of his, and possibly the memories of trauma and disappointment and shame, were finally something he had to himself.

But then, a wretched pool of black mist had to take that from him too.
