The Great War is slowly coming to an end but the German forces have stolen an important document from the Zoological Society that could shift the balance of the war. Dr. Barlow believes that Alek and Deryn are right for the job and send them to Amiens, France the gain information on the stolen documents. Along the way they make new allies and enemy's alike
