Robert came home, he found Cora in the laundry room. He touched her shoulder, she was wearing headphones and didn't notice him.
Cora got startled, but when she saw Robert, she smiled. "You are home early. What a surprise."
"I hope it is a good surprise."
"You are always a good surprise." Cora said pressing her lips against his. As always she felt him holding back, but in the last 3 months she had learned to ignore it.
"I have a real surprise for you." He took her hand and guided her to the living room. On the table there was a guitar case.
Cora looked at Robert. "You didn't!"
Robert smiled. "I don't know. Just open it."
Cora opened the case, there wasn't a guitar inside, just an envelope. She opened it and read: 'Go to the shop and pick out the best guitar youwant. You are getting lessons from The Nelson Brothers.'
"Oh darling, thank you. Thank you so much." Cora wrapped both arms around Robert and kissed him until she needed air.
Robert chuckled. "I think you like this surprise." He kissed her cheek. "Enjoy, Rosamund will go with you to the shop. I need to go back to work."
The corners of Cora's mouth lowered. She had hoped they would go together, but unfortunately, Robert still wasn't romantically attracted and did things like this, because he needed to. No! She said to herself. That is not totally true. He enjoys giving me presents.
In the end Cora had an amazing time together with Rosamund. Rosamund had arranged a high tea at The Ritz, and after that they went to the Nelson Brothers. There was an instant click between Cora and the brothers, and it turned out Cora had talent.
Rosamund had enjoyed watching Cora blossom, with that guitar in her hands. There was a completely different woman sitting in front of her. Rosamund was amazed that she was so musical, her voice had a soothing sound. Before they both knew it, the first two hours were gone.
"Cora, we have to go back home. Robert is expecting you back for that dinner tonight."
Cora looked up, her eyes were shimmering from happiness. "You can't believe how much fun I had." She turned around to Simon and Steve. "I can't thank you enough for today."
Steve smiled. "I hope this wasn't the last time we saw each other." He winked at her.
Cora followed Rosamund with coloured cheeks. She had truly enjoyed herself.
"Are you ready?" Robert asked.
Cora had changed her dress for the third time. At the moment she was wearing a white slim dress with a cape. Robert entered the bedroom.
"You look stunning, darling." He kissed her cheek and looked at her with a lot of approval in his eyes. "To bad we have to go to that dinner. I would love to do other stuff with you now." His hand rested on her hip.
Cora chuckled. "We could skip tonight, or just arrive later?" Her hands roamed over his arms.
"I am a special guest tonight, of course, we aren't skipping. I have to give a speech." Robert gave her an annoyed look. "I thought you knew what tonight was about?"
"I, yes, well, I." Cora stuttered. She scraped her throat. "Of course I do, but you gave me that look!" Now Cora was also annoyed.
"So, I can't look at my wife, when she is wearing a stunning dress?" He turned around and started to walk away. "Please hurry up, will you. I don't want to be late!"
Cora let out a deep sigh. She chose black shoes with sparkling stones on top. Her heel was quite high. She knew Robert liked those heels on her.
Dinner had been boring, but the evening ended with a little party. Cora was drinking wine and looked at Robert across the room. He was sipping his Whiskey, when he caught her gaze, he walked over. "Are you enjoying yourself?" He knew she wasn't. There weren't many people Cora knew.
The song 'Stand by me' from Ben E. King was played. Robert took Cora by the hand and guided her to the dance floor. This was something that was so natural with them from day one. They felt each other perfectly and Cora was like butter in Robert's hands on the dance floor. Cora loved these moments. Even though they fought just earlier this evening, Cora was happy in this relationship.
Robert was holding Cora close to him on the dancefloor. He wasn't sure if she was really happy. They had a lot of arguments. He didn't seem to understand her. The gift of this morning was a bulls eye and that made him happy. He started to learn what Cora needed.
Cora knew a lot better what he needed. She knew when he needed physical attention, but also when she should stay away. Her small notes next to his breakfast plate were heart warming.
He felt Cora stumble, and he came back to earth with his thoughts. He tightened his grip on her. "Are you alright?" He asked.
Cora have him a big smile. "I just tripped over my own feet." She sounded tipsy.
Robert smiled internally, Cora didn't drink much, but tonight, she already had four glasses of wine. He tightened his grip and brushed his lips against her neck.
"We should go home."
Cora looked up at Robert. Did she see lust or love? She couldn't tell. But it didn't matter, he wanted her and she needed him. She moulded her body against his and whispered in his ear. "We should indeed, go home."
The next morning, Cora had to run to the bathroom. She was nauseous and reached the bathroom just in time. When she finally felt a little bit better, she got back into bed. Robert woke up, from her getting back in bed and scooted closer.
Cora pushed him away. "I am not feeling well."
"What's wrong?" Robert asked with a worried look in his eyes. He saw her covering her mouth with her hand. "Oh, no. You didn't even drink that much last night."
Cora shook her head. "Just 4 glasses, but it isn't sitting well with me. I am feeling rather sick, and I think I will stay in bed."
"I will call my mother to cancel lunch. Do you want something now? Dry toast maybe?"
"We can always try. Thank you, darling." Cora laid back down on her pillow in the hope the nausea would go away.
