Cora closed the front door. "Good to be home." She took Mary out the stroller and put her in her playpen.

"It's strange to be home." Robert said.

Cora looked at him. "As if we stepped back into the modern world."

"We weren't out of it." Robert said annoyed. "Please don't talk bad about Downton."

Cora put her hand on Robert's arm. "I didn't mean to be negative, I am sorry." She kissed his cheek and walked into the bedroom to unpack.

She was conflicted, Robert was really in his element at Downton. Should she put herself aside and just follow him there. Could she be happy as the Lady of the house? Her life would change drastically. The last month showed her what was expected from her. She would be busy with planning events and dinner parties. But what was her life here in London? She could start working, could she do that at Downton too?

"Robert?" Cora said walking into his study. "Do you think I could get a job?"

"A job?" He looked up from his laptop. "What do you mean?"

"I need something to keep my mind busy. I stayed at home since we married, but I need a purpose in life."

"Mary is your purpose? Isn't that enough?"

Cora rolled her eyes. "I am not made to be a stay-at-home mum, I am sorry, but I need something more."

Robert leaned back and looked at her with a frown on his forehead. "Maybe Rosamund knows something, I will ask her."

"Really? Would you do that?" Cora's mouth curled up.

"You spent a month at Downton for me. This is the least I can do. Now, if you don't mind, I need to finish this." He looked back down.

Cora left, Robert alone again. He didn't know if there was work at the office for Cora and he wasn't sure if this was smart. What if she loved the job, Rosamund found for her? The change of moving to Downton got slimmer. Never mind that, he thought, I need to plan her birthday.

"Ssst. It's alright, Mama is here. Ssst darling." Cora had a crying Mary in her arms. Nothing seemed to calm her down. She was drooling a lot these days, and Cora suspected she was teething. She cuddled her close to her body and rubbed her gums a lot to sooth the pain.

Cora put Mary down on her back to pick up a clean nappy, when she turned around, Mary was on her tummy.

"Robert!" Cora exclaimed. "Come quickly."

Robert rushed around the corner. "Something wrong?" He looked at Mary, who stopped crying.

"Darling look." Cora put Mary back on her back and waited. Mary started to wiggle and before they knew it, she was turned back on her tummy.

Robert picked her up and twirled her around. "How clever you are!"

Robert looked at his sleeping wife. She was so incredibly beautiful. When she was asleep and her face all relaxed, it was even more visible

He could stare at her all day. But he had plans, so he walked over and kissed her lips. In response she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him close. "Hmmm, what a good morning this is." She murmured against his lips.

Robert smiled and kissed her longer and more intense. "Happy birthday, darling." He said when they both needed air.

He sat down and handed her a red box. Cora sat up and opened the box. Her eyes grew big. "This is beautiful." She was looking at an Agrafe Mariage bracelet, white gold, set with brilliant-cut diamonds. "Oh, Robert, this is truly beautiful." She touched the bracelet with her fingertips and stared at it.

"You really like it?" Robert asked unsure.

Cora took Robert's face in her hands. "I truly, truly do. Thank you so much." She kissed his forehead, cheeks and lips.

In the other room Mary started crying. Cora was getting up, but Robert gently pushed her back. "It's your birthday, I will go."

Cora leaned back into her pillow and closed her eyes, enjoying this slow start of the day. But soon she heard Robert's voice. "Cora? Can you help me for a second?" She got up, slipped into her slippers, wrapped a bathrobe around her.

She leaned against the doorpost. She was lucky with such a handsome man, seeing him with their daughter in his arms, made her heart grow. "What can I do for you?" She asked.

"Can you take a look at this?" Robert walked towards her and showed her Mary's hand. Mary was holding a small red box.

Cora looked up at Robert with a question mark in her eyes.

"Mary has also a present for you."

Cora opened the small box and stared at earrings from the same set as the bracelet. "This is too much. Oh Robert, really. But they are incredibly beautiful. Thank you. Thank you." She kissed him again and again. Until Mary was sick of being in between them and started to protest.

They had spent the day being lazy at home and in the afternoon, Robert took her and Mary for a river walk. They ended at La Trompette in Chiswick. Inside the restaurant were Violet and Rosamund waiting.

"What a lovely surprise." Cora said embracing them both. The dinner was splendid. They talked about a job Cora could do at the office. Violet was mostly interested in what happened at Downton. Cora saw a pain in her eyes, when Robert talked about their time there. Violet must have had a difficult time when she and Patrick decided to sell the estate.

The waiter brought the desserts and put a red box next to Cora's plate. Cora looked up in surprise to the waiter. He just nodded towards Robert. "Darling?" Cora said softly. "This is too much."

"Nothing is too much for my Lady, open it."

Inside was a necklace from the same set as the earrings and bracelet. Cora put her hand on Robert's. "You spoil me."

Violet scraped her throat. "The set isn't complete." And handed her a little box.

Before opening Cora had already teary eyes, but she tried to hide it. Inside was a ring. Rosamund took it out of the box and placed it on Cora's finger.

Robert stood up and placed the necklace on Cora's neck. He kissed her temple, before he sat down.

Back home Cora had put Mary to bed and walked into the living room. Robert was reading a book, Cora sat down next to him and moulded her body against his. She put her feet on the couch. "I had a lovely day. Thank you. And now I have a surprise for you." She turned around to face Robert and gave him a little package.

Inside was a pregnancy test, with a positive reading. Robert's face lit up. "Are you for sure?"

"I need to go to the doctor for the conformation but, yes I think I am pregnant."

"Oh darling, that is amazing news. Another little one." He put his hands on her abdomen and pulled her close.

They sat there for a while, listening to the music, Robert had put on. Cora fell asleep against Robert's shoulder. Dreaming of a little boy in her arms.
