"I killed Mari"
everyone was shocked even Hero but as Sunny explained in almost agonizing detail they soon reacted the way Sunny expected, Aubrey was really conflicted and left the room with Hero following who didn't even look at him, Sunny walked up to Basil who was conscious when Sunny told the Truth and just smiled when he saw him finally free. Surprisingly or perhaps not Kel honestly didn't care about the Truth and was just happy to see Sunny and Basil smile for real now obviously that doesn't mean he didn't care about Mari he still does, but knows that now even if it takes time everything will work out he'll make sure of it. He even has a speech goes like this
"Remember when we talked about that one time Hero flipped out and I didn't remember what he said that was a lie, h-he said...I didn't care, I didn't care about him, you, Aubrey, Basil, or even Mari that I was finding happiness instead of Mourning, but That's wrong I did care like everyone else but I knew deep in my mind, my heart, or my soul that if I just moped around doing nothing I'd be disappointing Mari"

That was a few months ago nowadays Sunny still hangs out with Kel and visits Basil often who is about to leave the psych ward thanks to his astounding improved mental health and when he gets out he's going to live in Nearby city with Polly again, as for Sunny he's more or less rekindled his relationship with Omori but before he can dream again, he must finish the comic but in a unique way to get across the feelings of it all. This goes on for some time with occasional conflicts between Hero, Aubrey, Kel, and Sunny but nothing too serious and eventually do hang out, until SHE arrives. One day at Sunny's work he encounters a woman that bears a striking resemblance to her sister after he's done, he tries to find her and as luck would have it, she was trying to find him too and introduces herself as Mary and a big fan of the comic Sunny created especially the character Mari.
Obviously, this is Mari but Sunny knows that should be impossible since he killed her and watched her die except it turns out there were a few more memories locked away in his mind about that event he didn't want to face. For now, he keeps his relationship (don't worry) with Mary a secret to the others since he's pretty sure they'd all be shocked and 2 of them will be pissed, yet with that being said as they spend more time together, he soon finds out that Mary had an accident that took her brother's life and gave her amnesia her father rarely talks about him but from some details given he knows that if he was still alive he'd look like Sunny.
Whilst the twist is obvious it's supposed to be painful to read/watch as Sunny and Mary develop a genuine loving brother-sister relationship, of course the issue of "is this just replacing their siblings?" does come up but Mary states that they shouldn't think of it like that instead they should look at this as them moving on and living the life their siblings wished which is uplifting to Sunny because while he's made peace with himself it's arguably if he's moved on.
Mary makes a statement that helps Sunny cope as well it goes "I guess you could say that having amnesia left me better off than not having to know my brother died, but that to me is an insult to his memory since without other people to tell me I wouldn't even know he existed and it's sad I don't have the memories of our time together both the good and the bad". Eventually Mary finds out Sunny can play some violin and starts practicing with him for a recital.
Sudden Inclusion: Sunny plays a part of the Final Duet which she somewhat recognize' but can't remember to make all of you agonize more.
As Sunny is developing this relationship he gains the suspicion of the others wondering what he's doing on his own time, Kel being well...Kel jokes with everyone when Sunny is on the phone that it's his girlfriend, this obviously makes Sunny flinch and hits the speaker button, and they all hear Mary's voice (they don't recognize it but have a faint familiarity). Almost as if someone wrote this Hero and ESPECIALLY Aubrey are f #king pissed while Kel and Basil are shocked but somewhat happy, after some shenanigans while Sunny is talking to her when the call is done Sunny leaves for his "date", he tells Kel "I say this with full self-awareness and little sarcasm don't be near a flight of stairs" Kel picking up on this says "ooh! Killer what are gonna do push me down some?" words that he will soon regret as Sunny leaves.
Soon the recital they've been practicing for is about come up yet Sunny has wet feet and doesn't know what to do since he doesn't want to mess up, Mary seeing this has 2 solutions when they play, they only look at each other and maybe Sunny should invite his friends she heard over the phone. Sunny is given tickets but decides not to for obvious reasons yet Kel being again...Kel just rummages through his garbage during a "random visit" and tells the group. The day of the recital comes just a fun day for Mary but means so many things to Sunny as they get on the stage, he does exactly what she told them and it worked they played the piece that was all too familiar to Sunny and his friends their
Last Duet,
it was everything Sunny wanted and more and as they took their final bow, he sees his friends and has a panic attack.
Sunny ran off with Mary following as Kel and Basil climb the stage to help while Hero and Aubrey just stare at Mary until she's gone, once in the break room Mary tries to comfort Sunny as best she could assuring him that despite what just happened he didn't ruin anything. When Kel and Basil enter the break room Mary looks at them with fury in her eyes and yells at them to get out, Sunny while his attack is subsiding tells her that they aren't at fault and quickly introduces them. After they all calm down and chat Mary leaves with Sunny following but is stopped by Kel and Basil since they need to ask something, a few weeks go by as everyone is readying to meet the "new" member of the group at their usual hang out spot Mary with Sunny in toe introduces herself and reveals she knows full well who she looks like and what Sunny did.
Turns out during the recital before Sunny left with Mary, Kel and Basil stopped him and they asked if she told her the Truth with his silence confirming their suspicions, they tell Sunny he doesn't have to do it now because of how personal it is, however now that Aubrey and Hero have seen her it's only a matter of time before they try something. Sunny taking their words to heart prepares to tell Mary the Truth when he invites her over to his apartment and says (again) "I have to tell you something", Mary in the present is retelling all of this since she accidently eavesdropped on Sunny, Kel, and Basils' conversation and somewhat put two and two when she went back to the comic and saw the imagery on the bus ride there, so when Sunny told the truth she simply asked if she could stay over for the night.
Mary admits she doesn't know everything and doesn't know what it feels like to lose someone close telling everyone about her accident and amnesia but still chastises Hero and Aubrey's behavior towards Sunny saying "have you ever considered what Sunny has gone through 8 long years of self-hatred and grief not to mention how it's his fault that he took away the person everyone cherished and that person was his own sister and have you ever wondered why he wears sleaves, I'm not asking for complete forgiveness but I am asking to give him a break". Everyone is stunned not only because of how much Mary is like Mari but also at her figuring out the Truth, her statement, and Sunny just acting like "yep that my 'sister' all right", Hero has a lot to say but holds his tongue and Aubrey looks angrily and sadly at Sunny all the while Basil and Kel are pestering Sunny.
After this Mary becomes part of the main group and many developments happen, despite their differences Mary and Hero do start to like each other to the point of being like before, Sunny and Aubrey start to talk again with obvious implications that they still like each other and Mary eventually meets Aubrey's gang, Sunny starts to train with Kel and Basil mainly to help out Basil and get Kel ready for the tournament, and Sunny's father shows up WHAT!?
Yes, throughout all of this Mary tells her family about all the new friends she's made this includes her mother Susan, her younger brother and sister Martin and Yuna (yes Sunny's biological siblings and Yuna means moon) and her Father who is also Sunny's father named Samson (means "sun" in Hebrew), when Samson hears the familiar names of her friends and his son, he realizes what he must do. If you think murder no, he already knew Sunny and co. were in this city and it would only be a matter of time when Mary and Sunny would meet he even knew about the web comic she reads he's just going to intervene.
One morning Samson goes to the gangs hangout spot keeping Mary busy and finally confronts his son after 8 long years of waiting, to keep it simple Sunny understandably flips out saying he shouldn't have come since he disowned him and he no longer considers him his father after he abandoned his mother everyone including Samson is shocked at how mad Sunny is you could say Furious, but that aside Samson isn't here to re-open old wounds and just wants to tell Sunny (whom he still considers his son despite what he said) that Mari is dead and adopted Mary to start over.
This pisses off Sunny off even more not because of "the Truth" but at the fact that his father just replaced Mari with some look alike and left his mother with him (if you couldn't tell Sunny doesn't care about himself in this situation which everyone picks up on, he's not mad about what happened to him he's mad for the people he cares about). Sunny leaves as an emotional wreck and back home SOMETHING pops up again Sunny is having none of it and dares it to do well...something yet it doesn't, instead it lures Sunny into remembering the day he "killed" Mari and the facts he has repressed all this time.
In this story Mari still falls down the stairs, survives, and is put into a coma Sunny and Basil don't notice and try to frame it as suicide thankfully their noose was shotty at best and loosens just enough that she isn't chocking, it's heavily implied in the original game (during the hikkiomori route) that Sunny's parents knew what happened and kept it secret for (kind of) unknown reasons and may have included others when Samson was trying to get Mari down he noticed she was still alive and a thought came to him. Will come back to this since Sunny has had enough of SOMETHING so to make it disappear once and for all he buys a shovel, puts in a notice at work, and heads back to his true home far away.
When Sunny makes it to Faraway town it's very bittersweet seeing all of the places he used to have fun in knowing he can never get them back and finds the old home he grew up in still for sale, it starts to rain and at the dead of night Sunny is in front of Mari's grave SOMETHING looming all around and starts digging fast while sobbing and saying sorry repeatedly eventually getting the coffin out.
Sunny breaks into his own home dragging the coffin behind him the storm is becoming more violent as thunder and lightning roar all around him and SOMETHING floating over the stump that haunted him even in his dreams and shouts "IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT!? TO MAKE ME SUFFER!?" it doesn't "answer" it just waits for him to do what he should've done a long time ago. However, before Sunny can open the coffin he's stopped by Basil along with Kel, Aubrey, and even Hero when he questions why they're here they explain Mary noticed Sunny was acting stranger than usual and asked the others what happened and when they told her she told them to check on Sunny and if he wasn't home, he most likely went to faraway, and they should follow while she investigates on her own.
Everyone (minus Hero) tries to consul Sunny knowing why he's doing this but shouldn't disturb her sister's rest Hero of course is the angriest right now and goes for a punch on Sunny's face, right after said punch Lighting struck close to the group startling them Sunny used this and the momentum of the punch to quickly go to the coffin and open it to finally see...
nothing. Nothing. At. All.
When Mari died a funeral was held everyone was saddened by her death and it was all his fault, yet as he stared he soon notice...she was breathing...he wanted to say something but with his father there tensions were high and couldn't do much later that night it was raining he went to her coffin to see if he was right, but when he got to the church he saw strange men carry something off and when they saw Sunny he froze one single man came up to him it was his Father who walked away without a second glance, Sunny went back home, went to bed, and dreamed a most beautiful dream where his sister was alive and with bad knees.
During this Mary is looking through her father's things he's always been mysterious and there had to be a reason for it, this has Mary rummaging through some old photos and diaries slowly but surely realizing...she's Mari and instantly gained back some (but not all) of her memories her father tries to stop her but it's too late.
Mari "Who am I?"
Samson" my daughter"
Mari" okay which one? the perfect little angel or the one that's dead!?"
Samson" You were in a coma I didn't know if you were going to wake up and you definitely didn't need to be near"
Mari" Who? Sunny? he's my brother it was an accident! I pushed him to far and...oh my god his mother is dead my mother! and you never told me!"
Samson" Sweetie please understand your moth- real mother and I came to an agreement, and I couldn't let you go to her funeral-" suddenly Mari's other family comes in wondering what they're arguing about but before they can ask Mari bursts out running to the bus stop with Samson following.
At the same time Sunny and company are almost back in Nearby city everyone is sitting separately on the bus thinking about what they just found out, at the stop Sunny gets off quickly and when Kel catches up he asks what he's going to do? Sunny admits he doesn't know but is willing to try anything to get Mari back from his father no matter what and asks the others for help. Hero shouts "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?" scaring everyone except Sunny he continues "give me one reason why we should even consider helping YOU of all people"
Sunny retorts "oh I don't know Hero maybe the fact that Mari is ALIVE and can maybe still remember us"
Hero "so this is just to make us forgive you is that it!"
Sunny "Is that what you think!? I don't give a shit what you all think of me I just want my sister back! And if you can't understand that then you never loved Mari and you never lived up to your name you were always just playing Hero".
Those last words finally set off Hero who charged at Sunny who punched him square in the face and walked away yet surprisingly Hero didn't faint and was able to punch Sunny back, like with Basil Sunny had the clear advantage but Hero wasn't going to go down that easy Kel and Basil want to break up the fight but Aubrey stops them stating that like her they have been bottling up their emotions and need an outlet even though it's violent of course if they come close to killing each other they'll intervene. The fight is cut short when they hear Mari calling saying she remembers everything Sunny leaves Hero on the floor who tries a sneak attack but is stopped by the others Mari not paying attention to her surroundings just wants to embrace her brother yet instead he pushes her away from an accident.
The exact accident can vary the point is that Sunny pushes Mari to safety instead of to her death, Sunny survives this normally fatal accident due to a lot of luck and abnormal durability (meaning he can take absurd amounts of blunt force than most people and old man Bob had these extreme Tests of Tolerance which helped, oh and one more thing that durability things comes from his mother's side).
Sunny recoveries in a few weeks and wakes up to see the faces of his friends and extended family, during those weeks Mari is still living with their father but he keeps his distance and everyone is happy to have Mari back. After Sunny is released from the hospital he gets back to hanging out with everyone, everyone is mad at Samson though things do cool down (except for Sunny and Hero), and works on the finale to the comic, once he releases the short game everyone including his friends are shocked not only at the content but the quality of it too it even makes the news, but for Sunny it's finally all over...or is it?
