An Old Closet:
Luca and Street are about to walk into HQ when Hondo meets them at the door.
"Follow me" he whispers, leading them to a storage room that hasn't been used in years. Everyone is there, even Chris. "Alright, Chris was shot in the head last night. She isn't leaving this place without one of us. We need to find out who is giving information about Chris" the guys turn to Chris, whose eyes are hard
"Are you serious?" Street asks, Chris nods
"So what are we going to do?" Luca asks
"That's up to Chris" Deacon says "she doesn't want to press charges-"
"You aren't pressing charges!" Luca says "why the hell not!"
"I don't want to, my life is hell right now and this will just make it worst" Chris answers
"Seriously?" Street asks "since when do you care what other people think of you? It can't be as bad as it is right now"
"You clearly have no idea what I have been dealing with Street!" Chris says, her eyes for the first time, reflecting fear "I've been beaten, threaten, and laughed at everyday because of a stupid article! I am at my wits end, and pressing charges will just add fuel to the fire" with those words Chris walks away
"Hondo? Are we sure she's ok?" Luca asks "it feels like she's barley holding on"
"I don't know Luca, I really don't" Hondo says with a sigh "we are going to find the rat, and Luca? Go find Chris and try, actually don't try, get her to press charges"
"Alright" he says walking into hallway. It doesn't take long to find Chris, she's coming out of the bathroom and Cole is in front of the door. Luca hides around a corner and listens closely
"Alonso, what's your problem?" Cole asks angrily "Are you scared?" Luca looks at Chris and can tell that couldn't be further from the truth
"Yea right" Chris shoots back "the way I see it, you are scared of me, not the other way round" Cole takes Chris by the shirt and shoves her against the walk. Luca quickly takes out his phone and hits the record button
"Listen to me Alonso, you know I'm working with them" he snarls
"I figured it out the first day and it seems that you can't fight me by yourself" she says, Cole slams her into the wall again, making her legs go limp
"Watch your back, before I wanted to get revenge on women. But now? I want you, I want to hurt you, I want to see you break, I want to see you die" he says dropping her and walking away. He passes Luca, who puts away his phone, they make eye contact before Cole moves on. Luca then runs to Chris, who turns to him. Her eyes are full of tears that she is trying desperately to blink away
"Luca" she says
"Hey, I saw it" he says gently "I have it on my phone"
"Luca, you could get in a lot of trouble for that" she says sharply
"That doesn't matter. Chris, you don't need to press charges, I will" he says in a firm voice
"No!" Chris says "No way! Luca, please don't" Luca starts walking away, she follows and yanks his arm back
"Chris! I don't care, I'm a witness and I am not sitting on the sidelines anymore" he argues, slightly angry. Chris' eyes show fear, so he adds, voice softening "it's going to be alright, I'll word it in a way so that you had no idea"
"Cole knows where my family and all of you live. If you do this, he could kill them or you guys" Chris says frantically, that gets Luca's attention
"How do you-" He says, but she leads him back to the storage room
"I figured it out the first day. Luca, I know what he is telling those men my information. I don't care what happens to me, but I couldn't live with myself if my family or any of you died because of me" Chris informs "I'll figure something out by the end of the shift"
"I'm sorry Chris, they need to know" he says, walking away
Thursday 9:15
HQ:
The rest of the team are trying to figure who the rat is when Luca runs to them, waving his phone in the air like it's some sort of treasure.
"Luca?" Hondo asks
"I got proof of Cole confessing he is-" Luca says then he stops looking pass the guys. They turn and see Officer Cole, with a smirk on his face
"You think you are so smart. Thanks for taping me, leaves my hands clean. Good luck, you'll need it" he says, in cunning manner before walking away
"Luca?" Deacon asks "what happened?" Luca begins to explain how he found Chris and that Cole knows where everyone lives which is why Chris is refusing to press charges, she doesn't want to hurt anyone
"What are we going to do?" Tan asks
"It's a tough decision" Hondo says carefully
"One that I'm making" Chris says, everyone turns "you heard me. If you tell Hicks anything-"
"You might want to hold that thought Alonso" Hicks interrupts "come with me Chris" They leave and everyone is silent. After a few minutes, they hear Chris crying
"Dear God" Deacon whispers
"Let's meet her at Dr. Wendy's office" Hondo says quietly. After 20 minutes, Chris enters the office and Wendy welcomes her in.
"What happened Chris?" Street asks
"He killed them" Chris says coldly "shot them"
"Chris? Why don't you and I talk in private?" Wendy suggests so the guys start to shuffle out of the room. Once everyone leaves, they can hear Chris crying again. Hondo leaves for a few minutes to talk to Hicks
"Hondo?" Deacon asks
"Hicks told me that Chris' family all died in a hit and run. The sources point to the hit men being from the RedDot Website. Guys, Cole sent them, I'm positive."
"We're too late" Deacon say tears rolling down his face
Thursday 9:30
Wendy's Office:
This can't be happening, my family are dead, because of me. This they cared for me and this is how I repay them? I was supposed to be the one in danger. If anything, my body should be being buried right now
"Chris? Chris. Chris!" Dr. Wendy shouts, trying to get Chris' attention
"Yea?" Chris says "sorry"
"Don't be, are you ok?" She asks
"Sure" Chris answers
"Chris. I know this is tough for you. I'm here to listen to you" She offers
"I don't know what to say" Chris whispers
"How do you feel?" She answers "it's going to be ok Chris. Just breathe"
"Breathing isn't going to bring them back. I'm alive and they're dead. They didn't deserve this, I shouldn't be here right now"Chris says, the words tumbling out of her mouth.
"Chris, you couldn't have predicted-" she starts
"I knew this could happen. I thought if I played it right, they would be ok" Chris says, then she hears shuffling from behind the door. She opens the door and finds Cole listening with a few friends.
"Officer! Get out now or I'll report you" Wendy says harshly
"Doesn't matter, I got what I wanted" he says "how are you Chris? Maybe if your friend kept his mouth shut, this wouldn't have had happened. Dear friend Luca told on me, this is the consequence" walking away. Chris sinks to the ground. She realizes that he is right, her family is dead because of her team. The team that kept saying she was strong but they didn't mean it. Chris has no one to turn to, she is broken.
Thursday 10:00
HQ
For awhile, the team is silent, listening to Chris cry. The reality hits all of them. When someone swears an oath to the badge, they understand that one day they may not come home. But when it's your family that's gone because of your job, no one sweared to that
"Chris?" Deacon says as Chris walks towards them. She looks at them, her eyes unforgiving
"Hey Chris" Hondo say "how did it go?"
"How do you think it went?" She snaps, angry "this wouldn't have happened if is wasn't for Luca"
"You can't blame him-" Hondo says,
"Shut up!" She shouts "I've listened to you all week, it's my turn!" The groups quiets down "Cole wouldn't have sent them if Luca didn't step in. If none of you intervened. I'm just a weakling that needs protecting, aren't I? I didn't ask for anything, but to leave me alone. I thought out of everyone, you would all have my back. Now, I need to plan my family's funeral all because of you. Don't ever talk to me again!" she walks away, the team's heart breaks
"Hondo?" Street asks
"Yea Street?" He answers
"Is she going to be ok?"
"I don't know kid, with everything that Cole did, that can break anyone. Only time will tell" Hondo answers, sighing
"I'm sorry" Luca says under his breathe. They could hear him repeat those words all day. So much so that they could still hear it in their ears weeks later.
