Here We Go.
Zuko woke up to the sound of door knocking, he checked the time to find that it's already 4:00 PM, he sat on his bed for a while trying to remember what happened this morning, usually he gets back from work at 6 AM and averagely sleeps six hours, but this time, instead of going back home at 6 AM as per usual, he was stopped by a rather strange encounter.
*Early Morning*
Zuko was heading home from work after he said goodbye to The Lady June, he made his way through the city as he saw early risers going to their daily routine work, Zuko knew how boring these people's lives are, but Boring isn't actually a problem compared to his own problems, he would choose 'boring' over his own problems any day.
He sighed as he kept walking, his feet were taking steady steps towards home until he was suddenly stopped by someone calling his name.
"Good Morning, Master Zuko." The man greeted, Zuko knew that voice that he hated so much, he sighed and turned around to face him.
"To you as well, Master Fung." Zuko greeted half-heartedly, Zuko realized that he was indeed in the street where The Jasmine Dragon Cafe is, where his uncle's Cafe is, He's always loathed Master Fung for stealing that title away from his uncle, taking advantage of his uncle's weakness and bought the very place he cherished the most, his uncle was willing to give up all the family fortune just to keep this Cafe, but then the fall of Zuko's father, Ozai, ruined everything.
Anyways, The old man walked towards him after the fake greeting and was now facing him, "You haven't come to my Cafe since ever since you moved here, Didn't you like the service last time you were here?" Fung asked, looking genuinely upset which bewildered Zuko.
"Not at all, The Service was lovely.. i just got really busy with work." Zuko said.
"Mhm.." Master Fung uttered clearly unconvinced, "Well, if you are down for it, how about we have a cup of tea together?" Fung requested, and Zuko felt cornered.
"I just came back from work, Master Fung. i really need some sleep right now." Zuko tried to escape but Fung was very stubborn.
"It won't take much of your time, Please." Fung insisted with a smile plastered on his face, but the effort really intrigued Zuko, what could be so important that he becomes so persistent.
Well, there is only one way to find out. Zuko thought before answering the old man, "Alright." Zuko said and walked with Fung to The Cafe.
Zuko knew that the place would be empty, after all it's still six in The Morning, People don't go to Cafes this early, and still Fung decides to open at this time of day, it was very strange for Zuko but he decided against asking.
He made his way to a table in The Cafe, and took a seat, Fung was going to sit as well but then he chuckled lightly as soon as Zuko took a seat which confused the young man.
"What's so funny?" Zuko asked.
"It's funny you chose this table out of the many empty ones in the Cafe, this is your sister's table, you truly are your sister's brother." Fung said still chuckling a bit.
"Oh.." Zuko uttered, He knew this piece of information pleased him, but he wouldn't show it as he didn't even crack a smile, The old man stopped chuckling and sighed as he was about to start talking real business.
"I know you must be puzzled as to why i invited you here, Zuko. I get it, we don't have the best of relationships, and i know you don't even like me."
"Master Fung-" Zuko almost lied, but the old man interrupted him.
"Please, Don't interrupt me, Youngman. it's hard enough voicing this out loud so Please, allow me to finish." Fung said, Zuko looked at him uneasily but eventually nodded.
Fung sighed again before continuing, "I know what you must think of me, The Old Man who stole your uncle's Cafe in his time of need, that i took advantage of your uncle's weakness and bought The Cafe that he would have never sold otherwise. But trust me when I tell you, son. I never forced your uncle to do anything. what happened was his own free will." Fung said.
Zuko tried to hold his composure at first but Fung's words forced his hand, "I know you never forced my uncle to do anything, but like you just said, he never would have sold you this Cafe if he wasn't in time of need."
Fung stayed silent for a while, like he wanted to say something but was uncertain, Eventually he spoke, "What if i told you that your uncle wasn't actually in time of need?"
Confusion took over Zuko's face, "What are you talking about?" He asked.
They were interrupted with Teo who came to the table with a tray that had two cups of Tea, Zuko then knew that Fung planned the whole thing, even the tea was ready without them ordering it, what a cunning man he is. Fung then took his cup of tea and took a sip, tempting Zuko to do the same.
Fung then placed his cup of tea on the tray again and sighed, Zuko knew he was hiding something,
"I promised Iroh never to share this secret with anybody willingly, but since you hate me for false accusations, i am afraid i cannot keep my promise for long.." Fung started looking at the ground.
He brought his head up suddenly and looked at Zuko, "This Cafe unofficially still belongs to your uncle." Fung said.
Zuko's look of confusion turned to that of Shock AND Confusion, he wasn't sure how to react, "What?" Was all he said after Fung's bombshell.
"Your uncle stopped getting involved in your father and grandfather's business after his late son's demise, the death of Lu Ten broke him and he decided to leave this business for good. he was living in Ba Sing Se with nothing to own but this Cafe because he decided to stay away from The Family business forever, I met him Twelve years ago when he first came to the city looking for work and since then we became best friends, meeting regularly, helping each other with work and personal problems, he made excellent tea and gave great advice, you know?" Fung said with a smile, and that only made Zuko believe Fung's story more, you won't appreciate Uncle's tea until you have a sip of Uncle's tea.
Fung's smile faded as he sighed again and continued, "After Iroh's departure and Azulon's death, your father became head of the family, the business continued to grow and flourish under your father's supervision.. until a year ago." Fung said.
"What happened?" Zuko asked.
Fung took a sip of his cup of tea and spoke again, "Your father was betrayed by a member of his own crew. well, actually he turned out to be an undercover Police Officer. he infiltrated your father's place and got all the information he needed which was followed by an arrest warrant that was signed by The Caldera City Mayor himself." Fung said, and Zuko's face turned to that of disgust, he might have not had the best relationship with his father, but he would do anything to find that officer who ruined his life.
"But what does my uncle have to do with any of this?" Zuko asked.
Fung took a sip of his tea and looked meaningfully at Zuko, "Nothing. Nothing at all. your uncle only returned to the city to protect your father and to be at his side in a time of need, and so he was captured as well. But before he left for Caldera City, he came to me and told me that by doing this he would risk losing The Cafe, he brought me a contract with his signature already on it stating that he officially sold me The Cafe, but in reality I never actually paid him anything, it was just a contract so that The Government don't seize the place after his arrest, he entrusted me with it until he gets out of prison. That's why i asked you to come work at The Cafe, it would be much better if a member of the family was in charge of the place. not me." Fung said, looking very genuine.
Zuko was astonished to say the least, it was too much information to process for a guy who was going home to sleep, for a moment he thought all this was a dream, because honestly what's there to believe about this?
"I c-can't.. I can't a-actually think right now.." Zuko stuttered as he held his head in agony. the information gave him a headache.
"I know this is really hard for you to process. but I swear to you I am telling The Truth. your uncle is an honest and honorable man, all he did was to protect his younger brother, not because he wanted to get involved with family business again." Fung said.
Zuko wasn't ready to talk any further, he stood up and said,
"I can't really talk right now, Fung.. P-Please, I need to rest. we'll talk again later." Zuko said and rushed to exit without any further words. He made his way to his house, and immediately went to his room and slept on the information, until a knock on the door woke him up.
*Present*
Zuko was still sitting on his bed as the knocker was still at the door, remembering Fung's talk really numbed his feelings again, he wasn't sure how to react, but he knew for sure that he needed someone to talk to about this, not Azula of course, she's very young to process all this and they aren't that close, and obviously not Fung, because Zuko still hasn't trusted him one hundred percent.
The Answer came when Azula opened the door and he heard who was knocking at the door.
"Oh.. Hey, Aang." Zuko heard Azula greet at the door.
"Sup, Princess? How's life?"
"I'm doing good. How's yours?"
"Fabulous." Aang said.
"Great.. Well, come on in. Have a seat." Azula said and he heard Aang enter.
Zuko got up and went to the living room with nothing but his shorts on, he's gotten so used to Aang that he doesn't feel like dressing up to meet him anymore, He opened the door. and Aang and Azula immediately took notice of him, Zuko yawned and rubbed his eyes.
"Morning, Guys." Zuko greeted as soon as he saw them.
"Hey, Zukes." "It's The Afternoon." Aang and Azula respectively said at the same time, one with a smile and the other with a frown.
"Aang, can you come to my room. i wanna talk to you." Zuko said.
"I didn't know you had the ability to WANT anything, Zuzu." Azula said sarcastically.
"Aang, Please." Zuko said with a straight face and made his way to the room.
"Sounds pretty serious." Aang said, and despite the disappointed look on Azula's face he immediately hopped off the couch and went to Zuko's room and took a seat on the bed.
Zuko still had nothing on but his shorts so he put on a shirt to cover his bare body and sat opposite Aang.
"Well, i came here to talk to you about something, but it can wait until we finish talking about your thing. so, what's on your mind?" Aang asked.
Zuko hesitated at first, but he knew he had no one to talk to right now but Aang, he trusts him and Sokka the most out of all their friends and he isn't this close with Azula and the rest of the girls, and so it only seemed natural to speak to him first..
Aang looked at him confusedly when he stayed silent for some time, so Zuko decided not to make him wait for longer,
"Boy, do I have a game-changing story for you." Zuko said, starting his story.
Well that story got very serious fast.. Right?
