Here We Go.

The day of the party finally came, and Azula was putting the finishing touches to her makeup.

"Come on, Azula. Hurry up, I wanna see how you look like." Toph said from The laptop, Azula was video-calling her via Messenger to ask for her opinion on her dress, will it impress or not? But Azula never told her which person she wants to impress.

As soon as she finished dressing and putting on makeup, she rushed to her Laptop screen and fixed the camera to show her full body.

"What do you think?" Azula said as she kept posing for Toph.

Toph whistled, "You look radiating, how come you can be this beautiful when you want to?" Toph said, looking genuinely infatuated by Azula's dress.

"You don't think it's a bit much?" Azula asked looking at her reflection in the camera.

"Nonsense. I've never seen such a well-applied makeup in my entire life. and that red dress.." Toph paused and used her hand and lips to give a chef's kiss, "Perfection."

Azula was wearing a red bare-shouldered bustier cocktail dress that barely covered her knees, but it made her look like royalty, Her hair was in a loose bun on the top of her head, She vowed to be the most beautiful girl in this party, and she has never been one to lose a bet.

Azula smiled at Toph after her compliment, "Thanks, Toph. I'm sure you'll look radiant as well as soon as you start dressing for the party, it's in two hours, girl. c'mon." Azula urged.

"I will.. I'm just gathering my thoughts right now. you know, to figure out how to approach your broth- I mean.. TO figure out how to be a good host! Yes.. that's why!" Toph stuttered and Azula could only smirk wickedly at her.

"Alright.. So, you never told me you sent Aang to talk to my brother about you." Azula said, Of course she wouldn't let Aang leave without getting some information out of him, he told her that him and Zuko were talking about Toph, but Azula knew for sure he was hiding something from her.

"That's because there was nothing to talk about. Twinkletoes barely talked to him about me. he said they got busy with something else so they didn't have enough time to talk about me." Toph said, somewhat angrily.

"What were they talking about?" Azula asked curiously.

"He didn't tell me, which made me all the more angry, i punched him so hard in the ribs, it hurt him for hours." Toph said.

Azula cringed, "Yeah, i bet it did."

"What do you think they were talking about?" Toph asked.

Azula looked pensively for a moment at the ground, "I don't know, Whatever it is, It must be really important to Zuko, you didn't see how serious he was when he came calling for Aang, and they kept talking in the room for hours.." Azula started, she then had a look of surprise on her face, "Do you think he has a crush on Aang?" Azula asked half-sarcastically.

Toph chuckled, "What? No.." Toph's genuine laughter suddenly turned to nervous laughter and she asked, "Does he?"

"I don't know.. I'm not sure. i feel like i don't even know my brother anymore." Azula said, looking down.

Toph's nervous laughter subsided, "Well, Duh.. you don't talk to him that often, what did you expect?"

Azula sighed, "I know. I just wish we had a better relationship."

"You're talking as if there is no chance to make amends. how about this? we still have two hours till the party and he's driving you here, right?"

"Yes."

"Go talk to him now, and keep talking until you reach my house.. then you leave him to m- I mean.. then you leave him be."

Azula looked incredulously and rasied an eyebrow, "Why would i leave him be?"

Toph appeared to be looking for an answer, "I mean.. you'll be spending time with your friends, and he's gonna be spending time with his, right?"

"We have mutual friends." Azula responded.

"Yeah, right.. i mean.. Okay, sure.. Okay, i'ma go now to prepare for the party, don't forget to do what i just said. Bye, Girl." Toph said in a rush and then she hung up, Azula took a note to keep a distance between her and Toph if she decided to speak to her brother at the party, the thought of her brother and best friend hooking up made her sick to her stomach.. but if it's what Toph wanted, then she had no choice but to respect the girl's wishes.

Still.. Ew.. Azula thought as she got up from her chair.

She sat on her bed contemplating Toph's words. should she speak to Zuko right now? Is she ready for this kind of conversation? Will she ever be ready? She wasn't sure.. But she decided it wouldn't hurt to try anyways.

She got off her bed and took a deep breath, she stepped out of her room and went to Zuko's room, she took another deep breath and knocked on the door.

"Who's this?" Her brother asked.

Azula sighed desperately, her brother can be so stupid sometimes, "It's Santa Claus.. Ho Ho Ho!" She said sarcastically.

"Get in." Zuko said unenthusiastically.

Azula collected her thoughts before turning the knob and entered the room, he was sitting at his bed on his phone as usual looking as desperate and dull as ever, she knew this conversation wasn't going to be easy, but at least she knew which topic to start with,

"So, you got the car back from the Auto shop today?" She asked.

Zuko looked kind of surprised that Azula came to sit on his bed as she asked this question as if she's looking for a conversation with him, which Azula understood completely, usually she would ask him a question while standing at the door and occasionally through in some sarcastic comments and that was it, they probably never had a conversation that lasted more than two minutes before.

Eventually the look of surprise wore off and Zuko put his phone away to concentrate on Azula, an act which the girl appreciated very much,

Maybe this conversation won't be as bad as i thought. she said within herself.

"Yeah, it's fixed. we can use it now." Zuko said.

Azula nodded, "Mmm. That's good." She said.

They stayed in silence for a while, Azula kept casting furtive glimpses at Zuko, and he was doing the same, Azula felt powerless at this point, but thankfully Zuko broke the uncomfortable silence.

He coughed, "Did you Uhm.. Did you need something?" He asked.

"I don't Need anything from anybody." Azula replied instinctively, which she immediately regretted.

"Well then what are you doing in my room?" Zuko asked slightly irritated.

"I don't know.. I guess i was just bored."

Zuko eyed her for a moment before saying, "Ok..", then he picked up his phone and got back to whatever he was doing.

Azula instantly regretted her choice of words, when it comes to voicing out words, she's always had a specific set of words to each person around her, Zuko's set of words has always been any word that is repulsive, Azula never changed her rule for anybody to the point that it became an instinct, so she decided to defy her instinct, She has to change her tone if she's expecting Zuko's tone to change, and that's exactly what she's about to do.

She coughed a couple of times to grab Zuko's attention and when that didn't work, she decided to speak, "I didn't actually come here because i.. was bored.. I came here to.. uhm.. talk." Azula said, struggling with every word.

Defying your instinct is so hard. She thought as she looked at Zuko for a reaction.

Zuko didn't even look at her as he said, "What do you wanna talk about?"

Azula found his act irritating, but then again she's not one to talk, so she decided to go on,

"I feel like.." She stopped to take a deep breath, "I feel like.. we don't talk anymore and so.. I thought we should.. talk like siblings.. for once." Azula said and that definitely grabbed Zuko's attention as he looked at her with confusion on his face.

But thankfully that Confusion turned to Understanding, he put away his phone again as he said, "Alright. Let's talk." He said.

"Can you go first, Please?" Azula requested politely, Zuko threatened to smile but apparently that wasn't enough to make him smile, Azula wondered what his smile looks like.

Her thoughts were interrupted as he said, "Alright.. What should we talk about.. Hmm.. Oh, i know. Maybe the thing that's been going around for a couple of days now.. that me and Toph are going to hook up at her party?" Zuko asked, his face stripped of any humor.

Azula smirked at him, "Aren't you?"

"Of course not. She's a minor."

"You're only three years older than her, and she's turning eighteen in a couple of months." Azula argued.

"I don't have feelings for her."

"Thank god you don't.. still, i don't want you to break her heart. She's my best friend." Azula said, true she doesn't want her best friend to hook up with her brother, but still she would never want to see Toph hurt.

"Break her heart? That's Toph Beifong we are talking about, i thought you said she was steadier than a Rock." Zuko reminded.

"Yes.. but apparently.. you mean a lot to her.." Azula said but then she got very intimidating, "DON'T EVER TELL HER I SAID THAT!"

Zuko was thrown aback by Azula's rebuke but then his eyes turned to that of mockery, "Wait a second.. are you scared of her?"

Azula opened her mouth and closed it a couple of time, before looking at the ground in defeat, "Maybe.." She said.

Zuko chuckled at her antics and he was- Wait What?!

Zuko Chuckled! Azula screamed internally.

Azula brought her head up abruptly and looked at him in surprise, She was inspecting him to the core as if she was seeing him for the first time.

"What?" Zuko said after his brief chuckle subsided.

"Did you just laugh?!" Azula yelled the question.

"I.. think I.. did. Why?" Zuko said, looking to be genuinely puzzled.

"You never laugh." Azula stated the obvious.

"Yes, i do."

"No, you don't."

"Yes, I do.. You just don't see me that often." Zuko argued.

Again Azula couldn't argue back, "THAT'S.. True."

Zuko kept looking at her with amusement in his eyes for a couple of seconds before saying, "I can't believe i am saying this but.. i really enjoyed the conversation, Azula. it feels good to be real siblings for once." Zuko said.

Azula smiled at him, "Yeah, for me too.. I'm glad i got to meet the real you.." She said genuinely, but then her smile turned to a wicked smirk,

"But don't think that will ever stop me from calling you Zuzu."

Zuko huffed, "Aaaaand back to my phone." He said as he picked up his phone again which irritated Azula.

"You are a jerk." Azula scolded.

"Uh Huh.. The Door is right there." Zuko said without looking at her.

Azula had a displeased look on her face, but inside she was glad Zuko was talking to her that way, she knew he was being playful, and that made her slightly warm up to him, maybe they will become real siblings one day, she could only hope.

She got off the bed and headed towards the door, but she was stopped by Zuko calling her name,

"Hey, Azula.." She looked back at him, as he was looking at her with warmth in his eyes, "You look gorgeous." He said as he inspected her red dress for a second and then he got back to his phone.

Azula was speechless for a second, she couldn't believe Zuko just complimented her, but then she smiled warmly at him, Maybe she didn't get to know what he and Aang talked about, but she was happily aware that there is going to be more peaceful conversations between her and her brother, without a word she stepped out of his room and closed the door, as Zuko was about to prepare for the party and they will go together with his car.

Yep, Definitely gonna be real siblings very soon. She thought blissfully as she headed towards the exit to wait for her dear brother in the car.

Well, that was some beautiful touching sibling moment, wasn't it?

I love writing about Zuko and Azula's relationship, it's one of the best things about the original show and the fanfics.
