Zuko was at the counter of the Cafe, he decided to leave management to Fung and work at the counter, receiving and delivering the orders of the customers.
He knew how to make hot drinks very well as he learned from the master himself, his Uncle Iroh.
"Two cups of Jasmine. One with extra sugar, the other without sugar." Teo said the order to Zuko who got confused.
"How can two very different people sit together?" Zuko asked.
Teo smiled, "We're not here to play therapists, Zukes." The boy said and left the counter to attend to other customers.
Zuko got two cups and put the teabags in, he put extra sugar in one cup and left the other without sugar, he went to the heater and started heating the water, he knew Teo is coming with more orders so he had to deliver this one as fast as he could.
Today has been a very busy day, all tables were taken, most of them are girls that have been eying Zuko ever since they came to the cafe, some of them even decided to go to Zuko personally to say their orders without informing Teo, Zuko couldn't believe it, but he really liked the attention of the girls, not to mention how beneficial it is to the cafe, but mostly he liked the attention.
The water finally heated, and he put it in the cups and he hand stirred the beverage and put it on a tray, just as he finished making the order, Teo came in to take the tray and say another.
"Two Americanos with no sugar, One Jasmine with two spoons, a frappuccino and a-"
"Just leave the paper on the counter." Zuko interrupted impatiently.
"Done." Teo said, he left the paper on the counter and took the tray of the two Jasmines and left. Zuko read the paper, and started making the new order, Just as he did, someone familiar made his way to the cafe and stopped at the counter.
"The poster boy of The Jasmine Dragon." The girl said just as she entered.
Zuko's heart skipped a beat as he heard her voice, he turned around to greet her, "Hello, Toph."
"You don't have the time for me anymore, right? you're just so busy all the time nowadays." Toph said in a sarcastic manner, but looking more sad than sarcastic.
Zuko felt guilty, "I wish I could spend every second with you, but you know.. work is work." He said.
A smile found its way to Toph's mouth, her mouth kept twitching as her feeling were compelling her to smile, but she just couldn't give him the satisfaction,
"Yeah.. Well.. You didn't even stay for a full hour with me on your day off last week, what do you have to say to that?" Toph asked.
She was right, Zuko was supposed to spend his day off with her, but he only spend less than an hour and excused himself as he said he had an emergency, what's the emergency? he wanted to go to his mom.
Ever since she came back, his life has become much easier, he really missed his mom so much, and so he vowed to spend with her as much time as he could to compensate for the time she's been away, but to satisfy his need, he had to be harsh on Toph.
"I'm really sorry. You know how much I missed my mom, I just wanted to make up for the time she's been away.. But I know that doesn't excuse my actions, I promise that I'll make up for it, I'll take a day off tomorrow to go to the market and check the new tea delivery, I'll come back home at 5 PM, should I come pick you up at 7?" Zuko asked.
Toph's cheeks got beet red, "Come pick me up? You mean like.. a date?" She asked.
Zuko looked away and scratched the back of his neck as his cheeks mirrored Toph's, "I-I think so.. Yeah." He said.
Toph smiled as she looked away as well, "Y-Yeah.. Okay.. 7 is good.. yeah." She said, accepting, she then looked Zuko in the eyes, just at the time as he did the same.
They kept staring at each other in fondness, both of them thinking the same thing, they inched towards each other slightly, not caring for the outside world.. Until they did, as the voice of Sokka snapped them back to reality.
"Well, Well, Look at what we have here!" Zuko and Toph's cheeks couldn't have gotten any redder, as they turned around to find Sokka and Suki, standing there with goofy smiles on their faces.
"Dammit, Sokka! Why would you do that?! They almost kissed!" Suki said.
"No we wouldn't!" Zuko and Toph responded at the same time.
Teo then came to the counter to join them, "Ugh, I can't believe the two of you are still in denial, everybody knows you are in love." He said.
"See? Even this unintelligent waiter picked it up." Sokka said.
"Hey!" Teo protested, but nobody paid him attention.
Suki put a hand on Sokka's shoulder, "C'mon, Sokka.. Looks like the lovebirds don't want any disturbances.." Suki started, winking at Zuko and Toph who looked away from her instantly with red cheeks, she continued, "We just came here to ask you ask you about Azula, how's she doing? we haven't seen her in two days, ever since that day at the cafeteria." Suki said.
Zuko and Toph's moods suddenly changed to that of distraught, "She's been in her room ever since." Zuko said.
Sokka and Suki's mouths were agape, they couldn't believe that the outgoing Princess Azula would stay in her room for two days, "She must be in real pain." Suki surmised, looking sad for her friend. "Aang's been really down as of late too, Katara as well." Sokka said.
"Yeah, They sat at different tables today at lunch. I can't believe that our friendship is being torn apart, we have to do something about it." Suki said passionately.
"Couldn't agree more, Suki." Zuko said, and Toph nodded in agreement.
"That's why we've been thinking of a plan, me and Sokka, a plan that could hopefully resolve all of our issues, and we wanted to share it with you." Suki said.
"Of course.. Teo!" Zuko called the waiter, who at the time was attending to a customer.
"Yes, Zukes?"
"Is mister Fung in the office?"
"Yeah, he is." The boy said answered and kept attending to the customer.
Zuko then looked at his friends, "Today is a little crowded.. let's talk in the office, Come with me." Zuko got out of the counter area and headed towards the office.
He knocked on the door, and Fung told him to come in,
he opened the door to find Fung signing some papers, "Mister Fung." Zuko said.
"Hello, Zuko."
"I just wanted to discuss some important matters with my friends and I left the counter unattended, would you mind if you attended to it until I finish with them, please?" Zuko asked.
Fung smiled, "Well, since you've made this cafe a better place, I guess I have no choice but to obey your orders. Right on it, Boss." The man joked, and Zuko laughed.
"a good employee is hard to come by these days. I guess I'm a lucky guy." Zuko joked as well, and It was Fung's turn to laugh.
"Alright, Son.. I'll leave you to it then. Good afternoon, people." Fung said to Toph, Sokka and Suki as he was making his way out of the room, he then closed the door, leaving Zuko and his friends in the room.
Zuko then took a seat on the main chair, Toph on the chair opposing him, and Sokka and Suki took a seat next to each other on the couch.
"Okay, so what are we gonna do?" Zuko asked as soon as everybody took a seat.
Sokka and Suki smiled at each other and then looked at Zuko and Toph, "We'll tell you."
Azula was in her room, she was getting a little afraid because she was starting to have thoughts of getting out of the house, but she also knew that getting out of the house might mean getting hurt again, so she tried as hard as she could to suppress those thoughts.
Azula's been staying in her room for over two days, ever since the day at the cafeteria with Aang and friends, ever since the day she returned to school, she told Toph to tell the principle that she's sick, the principle asked to get a note from any doctor confirming that Azula's sick, Toph knew what Long Feng really wanted, it was money, and Toph has plenty of it, so she paid him to shut him up about Azula, a gesture which further proved to Azula how much Toph loves her, but Toph's love isn't enough for Azula to be whole again.
She needed the love of two people, Aang and her mother. Suddenly there was a knock on the door, a knock on the door of her room, she thought it was Zuko, so she just said, "Go Away."
But suddenly the knob turned and the door was open, revealing a sight that made Azula stop dead in her tracks.. It was her mother.
"Young Lady, you can't speak to your mother like that." Ursa said good-naturedly.
Just at that moment, Azula realized how much she missed her mother, Just at that moment, she almost gave in, she almost ran at her mother and hugged her tightly and cried, cried out all her pain and anguish, she wanted to do it, No.. she desperately needed to do it.. but alas, her pride won't allow her to.
"What are you doing her?" She only asked, which made her mother flash a hurt expression, and made Azula hate herself even more.
"I'm checking up on my daughter.. I heard that you've been out of school for the past two days, May I know why my own daughter, who has always been top of her class, missed the last two days of school?" Ursa said, talking exactly like a concerned mother would, something Azula hasn't been accustomed to.
"Don't pretend like you've been looking after me all this time, Zuko told you the news and asked you to come here to make me feel better, didn't he? Poor Zuzu, how come he doesn't know that I would grasp something like that?" Azula said with malice in her voice,
but Ursa's tone never wavered as she said, "Zuko told me the news, Yes. But he never asked me to come here, I did that.. I didn't do it for Zuko, I didn't even do it for you..", she pointed at herself, "for Me.." Ursa said, and Azula's mouth was agape, not grasping what her mother was saying at all,
so Ursa continued, "I tried as hard as I could to respect your wish.. to stay away from your life and never interfere.. never even check up on my own daughter!" Ursa shouted the last part, she then stopped for a second before saying with a lower voice while turning her eyes to the ground, "but I couldn't do it."
Azula was shocked by the words, at this point, she wasn't even sure her mother considered her a daughter, to have all those suppressed feelings inside her, why didn't she tell me any of this before? Azula asked internally.
As Azula was silent, Ursa took a deep breath and continued, "I missed you so much, Azula. right now I want nothing from the world but to be able to talk to you again. I know I've been a bad mother to you, I do.. I just want another chance, My Daughter.. Please, give me another chance." At this point, Ursa's cheeks were incredibly wet, with streaks of tears all over the place, she turned around and put both her hands on her face and sobbed loudly.
Azula had a single tear run down her cheek, she couldn't believe her mother felt all this for her, why didn't she say anything sooner? why didn't she try to make up for her mistakes sooner? so many questions that needed answers, but right at that moment, Azula just couldn't take it anymore, she couldn't just stand by while her mother is crying.
So she ran towards her mother and enveloped her in a hug.. and she cried too. Her mother was shocked at first but then she reciprocated the hug, both mother and daughter having each other's arms around the other and crying loudly.
Suppressed feelings can never be a good thing, Azula learned that the hard way, she hid her feelings from Aang until he was no longer available.
She was just glad that unlike Aang for her.. She's available for her mother.
AWWW! Azula has feelings! Lol
I'm kidding, she's the best.
