Flora always liked having a good routine when it came to doing chores as the saying went 'work before play' and that's normal.
Gara, Tana, Flora and the Butler family were once again gathering food since Gorok and Lok had gone hunting, but today, Flora felt like something was about to happen and whatever it was, it wasn't good either.
"Do we really have to do this every day?" Greg asked/whispered to Flora, she looked at him with a frown. "Well, we do have to earn our keep if we want to stay here." Flora answered Greg calmly and logically.
Greg paused to let what Flora had said sink before nodded at her in response as he knew that she was right, the modern humans had to help out if they wanted to stay and live in the valley with their friends.
Tana looked up at Flora and wondered what that had meant. "How goes the gathering?" Gorok asked Gara as he and Lok appeared, everyone shifted their attention to the duo in order to listen to them talk.
"It goes good, and I believe we have gathered much food." Gara answered him, before anyone else could say anything, Digger felt something latch onto his tail causing him to quickly run around in fear and pain.
"Somethings bugging Digger." Greg said as Digger cried out, Gorok got the dog to hold still as he removed a giant red ant. "What is that?" Katie asked in disgust, she hated all bugs no matter where they were.
"It's a prehistoric army ant." Flora replied while backing away, this type of ant was just another reason for her to keep her hiking boots on. "This is also a scout meaning that there's more." John added spoke up.
Just after saying that, everyone heard the clacking of mandibles coming from behind them, so they turned to see more army ants vastly approaching. "We need to warn the others!" Gorok told the others as they ran.
Lok and Katie went to warn the other men while Gorok, Gara, Tana, Flora, Glump, Digger and the rest of the Butler family started small fires to keep the ants away from them and the village, but the ants got through.
"What now?" Tana asked Kim, the group were now on the other side of the river. "Now we have to find a way to keep them out of the village." Kim answered with a sigh, Flora noticed that the ants have stopped for now.
"I just remembered that ants can't swim! We just got ourselves some more time." Flora with confidence, with the extra time that they now had, John told everyone his idea to make a big hot air balloon to help them.
Lok and Katie meet up with them at the cave. "What is this balloon?" Lok asked in confusion, John, Greg and Flora took turns explaining how the balloon worked and how it could get them all to higher ground quickly.
Even though Gorok scoffed at the idea, he went along with building the basket while Lok and Katie gathered all the materials, they needed to help as Gara, Kim, Tana, Greg and Flora sowed all the fur pelts together.
"I should be out there with the men." Greg complained, his comment made Flora mad, so she raised her right hand and 'SLAP!' Gara and Kim looked over to the children only to see that Tana was holding Flora back.
"OW! What was that for?!" Greg asked in pain, Flora stood over him with a frown. "You should be grateful that you get help at all! Sowing isn't just a woman's job!" Flora told him, she huffed and began her work again.
"What just happened?" Kim asked her son; Greg bowed his head shamefully. "I said something awful, and it made Flora mad." Greg admitted, Kim shook her head at Greg before they all finished sowing the fur pelts.
Pretty soon, the hot air balloon was done, and just in time as the army ants showed up. "Time to go up!" Katie said as she helped the younger kids into the basket. "I hope this will work." Gara said to Kim nervously.
Once, the five were at the same level as the top of the mountain, Greg hooked the rocks and pulled the basket over to it so they could get out, then they waited for Gorok, John, Lok and Kim to float up to them as well.
Greg tried to get the hook over to his dad but missed the first time until the wind blew the balloon back to the cliff. "Throw it now!" John told Greg; the second time was a huge success as Katie grabbed the rope tightly.
The four worked together to pull the rope over to the cliff before getting out and just in time as lighting struck the balloon causing a fire. "That was a close one." Katie said before looking down to the ground at the ants.
Everyone looked down to see that the ants were retreating after eating everything that had been in sight, Flora was just glad that she and the others hadn't been on the menu as the ants could've attacked them also.
"Well, how do you like that? A dine and dash line." Flora said with a laugh, after the storm had stopped and the ants left, everyone returned to see what was left of the food or what tools could be salvaged to help use.
Gara looked around sadly as most of the food was eaten, but fortunately Flora had been one step ahead of the ants. "Gara! Over here!" Flora called to her, Gara looked up to see Flora standing above her with baskets.
"We still have a lot of food since the ants never found these." Flora said with a smile, she carefully handed each basket down to Gara as Kim came over to help them both. "That was some quick thinking." Kim replied.
Gara smiled as she and Kim looked in each basket to see more than enough food to share with the rest of the villagers. "It's always good to be prepared for anything." Flora responded humbly, both adults nodded.
Once everything had been cleaned up and the food was shared equally among the people, Greg decided that it was time to apologize to Flora for what he had said, and much to his relief Flora accepted his apology.
"What should we play?" Tana asked Greg and Flora, Greg smiled at the girls. "Ever heard the legend of the lone dinosaur?" Greg asked them, Tana shook her head no while Flora nodded. "Who is that?" Tana asked.
Lok and Katie came over as they heard Tana's question. "We can explain it." Katie said as she gestured to Greg, Flora and herself, Tana and Lok watched as the three began playing music using the tools Flora made.
[Play Legend of the Lone Dinosaur from The Land Before Time]
[Greg]
Long ago on a mountain top
A mighty egg was laid
Burned by the light of the circle bright
And cooled by the forest shade
Then one stormy evening when the icy rain did pour
Out of the egg appeared the leg
Of the lone dinosaur!
His neck was long and limber
His shoulders broad and lean
His eye was high as the morning sky
And his vision it was keen
He wandered strong and silent
Across the valley floor
And everybody called him
The lone dinosaur.
Dinosaur!
His tail was swift as lighting!
Dinosaur!
His heart was brave and pure!
Dinosaur!
Whenever times were frighting
Call his name and he'd be there for sure
Lone dinosaur.
One day when he was roaming
Alone out in the west
A vicious pack sharpteeth came
And gobbled up his nest
He tracked that pack of varmints
And fought them by the score
He left them lying toothless
[Tana]
Toothless!
[Greg]
And he gave a mighty roar.
[All]
Dinosaur!
[Greg]
He promised his protection.
[All]
Dinosaur!
[Greg]
To the helpless and the poor.
[All]
Dinosaur!
[Greg]
Whenever there was danger
They'd never be defenseless anymore
This he swore
Lone dinosaur.
[All]
Dinosaur!
[Katie]
His tail was swift as lighting!
[All]
Dinosaur!
[Flora]
His heart was brave and pure!
[All]
Dinosaur!
[Lok]
Whenever times are frighting
He'll be there to fight the carnovire.
[Greg]
The lone dinosaur.
[All]
Yee-haa!
At that last line, the two teenagers and three kids all started laughing. "Is the lone dinosaur real?" Tana asked Greg, he didn't know what to say. "Some people think is, others say he's a myth." Flora answered for him.
Greg smiled at Flora for speaking up as she winked back at him. "We should go back, it is time to eat." Lok told the four, all five kids went back to the cave where the four adults were waiting for them so they could eat.
Gorok, Gara, John and Kim watched as the kids talked about what they would do tomorrow and whether or not they'd bring Clump and Digger with them only for the two pets to beg to go with them and play tomorrow.
Everyone laughed as they had a great time while talked about different things that happened in their worlds or at what Flora told them what her teacher would do just to get the kids excited about their history classes.
All in all, today was just another exciting day filled to the brim with danger and thrills as is every day in this hidden world, no one knew what to expect next but whatever it was, they'd be ready for the next adventures.
