Frank returned home with Honest, Prudence and a sleeping Ronnie. Honest and Prudence headed upstairs to hide the gifts for their mother, while Frank went to go lay Ronnie down in bed.
Coming back down the stairs, Frank was confronted by one of his congregants, 35 year old Ebba Astrid Öst. She appeared fear stricken with worry.
Ebba came to Mount Horeb eight years ago with her six year old son Elias Matthew while she was two months pregnant with her twins Emilia Ingrid and Elvin Sidney. She was running from her abusive husband.
"Hey Francis."
"Is everything alright, Ebs?" Frank asked
She shook her head, "No. I, um...I think I saw my husband when I was picking up the twins from school."
"Okay. I'll take Emmy and Vinny to school tomorrow. If I see your husband, I'll remind him of the restraining order."
Ebba had been too scared to get a divorce from her husband, but she had gotten a restraining order against him. He couldn't come within one thousand feet of Mount Horeb or the childrens' schools.
Ebba nodded, "Thank you."
"Of course," Frank replied, "So other than that how are you?"
"Oh, I'm good. The kids are doing well too. Elias is on a little picnic date in the backyard with Sylvia.
Frank smiled, "Aw...I always knew those two would get together."
"Yeah. Me too." Ebba agreed, smiling back.
There was nothing going on with Frank and Ebba. They were just friends, and she loved him as a brother. She would always be grateful to him for sheltering her and her children from her husband, and helping her get a restraining order against her husband. There were rumors floating around about Frank, but they were all wrong. He was a good man.
Walking out through the back door and down the three steps of the patio, Frank entered the backyard where he saw Elias and Sylvia sitting on one of those red and white picnic blankets. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but they were laughing.
Frank watched as Elias reached out and grabbed Sylvia's hand. It was so sweet. This was a boy who eight years ago didn't know how to treat a woman. A boy who would hit and seemingly had anger issues, but in reality he was just mimicking how his father had treated his mother.
That whole nature versus nurture thing is real. The impact of a positive father figure is all it really takes to show a young boy how to treat a woman. That's how we learn. By watching our parents. Before Mount Horeb, Elias was learning from watching his father abuse his mother.
Love and the power of God really are amazing things.
Frank was so proud of the progress that Elias has made, because now he is a kind, caring and loving boy. He's so gentle and tender-hearted. He's a real sweetheart is what he is.
Back inside the house, laughter could always be heard from at least one of the rooms. At this moment in particular, there was laughter heard from 30 year old Olivia Claire Nelson's room. She was in there with Harrison Stevens.
Olivia has a great personality, a sense of fun and a great singing voice. She got along well with Harrison.
At the age of sixteen years old, Olivia found out that she couldn't have kids - infertility. It was unfortunate because she had always wanted kids. She had wanted to be a mother since she was ten years old.
When Harrison's now ex-wife left Frank's congregation and Mount Horeb three years ago, Olivia stepped up as a surrogate mother to his kids. Especially Harriet, the only girl. She was six years old at the time of her mother's departure. She took her mother's departure the hardest. Kyler and Matthew, who were eight and nine when their mother left, didn't take it as hard as their sister did. Boys don't need their mom like little girls do, but over the last three years Olivia found that Kyler and Matthew grew closer to her as well.
Harrison and Olivia had been singing loudly and laughing, just being silly. Now they were talking about Maggie - Harrison's ex-wife.
Matthew's thirteenth birthday was coming up at the end of December and Harrison got to thinking about his ex-wife. He always thought about the mother of his children around the time of their birthdays. Kyler was Harrison's mini, but Matthew and Harriet resembled their mother more. Matthew actually seemed like a good combo of his parents, in comparison to his sister, who is her mother's little twin.
Harrison was shaking his head. Even though it had been three years, sometimes he still couldn't believe that his ex-wife had left the way she had. She had left without saying goodbye. Packing up in the middle of the night, he and the kids woke in the morning to find Maggie just gone.
Harrison found himself just staring at Olivia.
She smiled, amused, "What? Do I have something on my face?"
Harrison didn't even realise what he was doing until it was already happening. He leaned forward and kissed her.
Olivia pulled away, "What was that for?"
"I love you." He blurted out, "Marry me?"
"Well now we have to marry." She told him, "You kissed me."
According to biblical law, if a man lies with a woman then she shall become his wife.
"So...you'll marry me?" Harrison wondered
Olivia smiled as she nodded, "Yes. Yes, I'll marry you."
"Good." He uttered as he kissed her again.
Harriet had been passing by Olivia's room, on her way to her own room - all the women and children were on the same side of Mount Horeb - when she heard her father's voice. Rushing into the room, Harriet found her father and Olivia sitting really close together.
"What's going on?" Harriet asked
"Oh...um...princess, Olivia and I are getting married." Harrison told to his daughter
Harriet's eyes widened with delight as she hugged Olivia.
"I'm guessing that's alright with you." Olivia said as she hugged Harriet back.
"Of course it is!" Harriet exclaimed. She loved Olivia.
Olivia's heart swelled, "I love you, Ets."
"What should I call you now?"
"Well you can still call me Livvy if you want."
Harriet looked up at Olivia, "Can I call you Mom?"
Olivia smiled, glanced at Harrison and then back at Harriet, nodding, "Yeah, of course. You can call me whatever you'd like."
"Mom?" Harriet tried out the word, "Thank you for choosing me. I love you, Mom."
"And I love you so much more."
Hope you enjoy. Comments are greatly appreciated.
