Snape frowned as he looked at Harry, who was sleeping soundly. He continued to stare, many thoughts running through the tired man's head.

Snape was having his doubts that the little child could even talk. Harry had not said one word since they had arrived at Snape's small house in Britan. In fact, Harry had not even shown a sign that he wished to communicate in any way at all. He just stared into space with his cold, gray eyes.

This also puzzled Snape. He remembered Lily having sparkling green eyes, just like emeralds. Though he hated to remember James, he to, had had those beautiful emerald eyes. But then why did this little child have those dark, shadowed ones?

Harry's eyes reminded Snape of a long forgotten past, a past that wished not to be revealed. He himself had had a past that he wished to forget. But the memories would not let him. He could never forget.

Harry's eyes suddenly popped open, leading Snape away from his thoughts. Harry stared at Snape for a long while, then hung his head. A silent tear rolled out of the emotionless eyes, startling Snape.

"What's the matter, Harry?" Snape asked hesitantly. Harry sniffed, then looked back up at Snape. Then he spoke the first word Snape had ever heard him say since he brought him home.

"Green."
