Chapter 10

Currently settled in his room, considering what to do, Connor had to admit that he felt somewhat concerned.

'I haven't made much progress. Lieutenant Anderson is getting edgy…' he considered worriedly. 'I may need to try and see if I can get any help from Kara. Although, to do so…'

Connor was no stranger to having to seduce women in his line of work to gain their trust, and he knew that with the right level of seduction, he could get the information he needed, or at least something to help him in his investigations.

He knew he'd have to do that now with Kara, especially as he was sure that she'd be able to help him gain access to one of the locations that he had yet to search: Kamski's private room. It seemed that out of everybody present at the mansion, Kara was the only person other than Kamski who was permitted in that room, having her own key, presumably to clean it.

Finally, he sighed and shook his head. 'This is...strange. I'm used to this, I've done it before, and I know that I need to do it now. It's just another job...so why do I feel so...guilty about doing it?'

He couldn't understand it, he couldn't figure out why he felt so guilty about doing this. While naturally he'd always had some feelings of guilt about hurting the feelings of the woman in question, in this case he knew that he was going to feel guilty about Kara, given her past, but this felt different and he couldn't understand why. And why, when he thought about it, did Chloe come into his mind?

It was a rather strange situation to be sure. But for Kara, this time of year was a godsend as far as her job was concerned. Kamski was away on a business trip and a large majority, if not all the other workers were away, either on vacation or working from home.

'I more or less have the mansion to myself and can finally, fully clean it without having to work around people.' she reflected. 'At least I can work on this without any concerns too, thanks to Chloe's help.'

With a small smile, she worked and began cleaning up the staff kitchen. However, she stopped when the door opened and she turned, then relaxed a little upon seeing that it was Connor.

"Connor, you surprised me."

Connor smiled. "Sorry, I didn't mean to cause you alarm. You're still working?"

"Yes, this is actually the easiest and best time for me to work." she explained. "Nobody's around to get in the way, so to speak."

"Speaking of which…I'm technically not working, but...well, I have to admit, I'm kinda glad that I stayed." he replied, and, surprisingly, winked at her.

Kara felt her face heat up, but she did her best to remain composed. "I...I see."

Connor nodded with a smile, although he had to admit, something struck him as surprising.

"You're working here so late. Are you actually staying the night?" he asked.

Kara nodded. "It's the best way. I can make sure that I get everything done that way."

"What about Alice?"

"Chloe's watching her for me, she told me she'd be happy to do it. Alice understands." Kara explained. "When was first hired here, I told Chloe about my living situation and she was happy to lend me a hand with Alice when needed. I was pleasantly surprised, since I wasn't expecting a wealthy employer to be so helpful."

Connor nodded slowly, taking this in. It presented him with a solid opening for his plan and despite his unusual feelings of guilt, he decided to press on.

"Well, maybe I could help you out? It'll take less time that way." he offered.

"Oh, I couldn't. I mean…"

He just grinned and winked again. "I don't mind, really."

Kara felt flustered, but couldn't help but smile, glad to have Connor's help. She couldn't deny that she was feeling rather pleased with Connor's attention to her.

They got to work and as they did, Connor got to work beginning his plan, turning up the flirting a notch, with Kara eating it right up.
