As night falls in the Atlantic a U-Boat hunts a convoy. A young frigate captain waits for a torpedo from the darkness. A Wren officer dreads a sinking report.

…and all the men and women merely players. The comic, tragic, romantic and epic are curiously intermingled in the life of Dorothea Callum. Peppered with sundry other cast and crew (who are currently entering stage left).

One of the Coots is a POW in WW2 and escapes. Based on two true stories and therefore grim. This is the sixth chapter of "Pieces", but I'm posting it separately so you can miss it out if you want. No swearing or sex. We don't see the violence. Rated M so you can't read it by accident when you were looking for a comfort read.

World War Two finally comes to a finish and all the characters gather together once more. John/Nancy. One swear word.

With profuse and profound apologies to Mister Charles Dickens, here is an entirely unoriginal festive offering. It's Christmas Eve, and Roger Walker Esq. is sitting in his counting-house... sort of. Further explanations inside. Happy Christmas!

Late summer, 1938. Nancy and John think back to earlier events. This is going to be a wartime story, with all that war entails. Will add suitable warnings when later chapters are up.

Set in the Whitsun half-term holiday, 1954. Two Bradings and two Walkers conquer Everest on a fine sunny day. Just a little piece of holiday-nothing-much-really.

Just a short piece that wrote itself while I was thinking of something else. After a visit to the theatre John ponders on a name.

From Summer 1938 to May 1940. (Mostly takes place between the outbreak of war and Dunkirk.) Contains a mixture of Arthur Ransome's characters and my own, with a few walk-ons from the works of Dorothy L. Sayers. T rating is for a mixture of off-stage war-related death, some reference to "adult themes", minor violence and peril and a very small amount of minor bad language.

As an adult Roger, almost by accident, returns to the activities of his childhood. Written in the form of a local newspaper report. Please let me know how you feel about this form of writing. It seemed to be a means of conveying the essence of what I wanted without producing a novelette.

Set at Beckfoot at the end of the last holiday before John joins the navy

Susan contemplates her position as "deputy parent" in the Walker family, and her relationship with Jim Brading.

Set just after John and Nancy's wedding, late summer 1938. Titty is talking about art school on the Beckfoot lawn. Nancy sees an opportunity for a bit of stirring things up, or at least a change. John is delighted. Susan is... well, what is Susan?

In which motive for the Tin Trumpet Incident is explored. K for some violence/cruelty

Set in September and early October 1939. Mainly told from Peggy's POV. Bridget Walker is an evacuee at Beckfoot, as are Elspeth and Colin, the children of " Mac" who owns the Sea Bear. Peggy may consider her job in the post office to be dull compared to Nancy's role in the WRNS, but that's not to say that life by the Lake is peaceful.

Set in summer 1938. The Swallows, Amazons and Callums return to the Lake after various adventures on their voyages to the Baltic in Goblin and Sea Bear. Roger invites Dorothea to come trout fishing with him. Dorothea has her own reasons for accepting the invitation.

Now well and truly complete. A series of very short sketches. One per book. Mostly about Nancy, even when they're not.

A three chapter story mostly told in letters to, from or about the Amazons between August 1938 and August 1939.

Set after the end of The Picts and the Martyrs. Takes place before the events of Missee Lee. Nancy and John can't even buy souvenirs without getting embroiled in a short adventure.
