Chapter 2

The Trek Back to Pallet Town

Ash groggily woke up, still feeling some of the pain from what happened to him.

He looked around, eyes still a bit clouded, but he could at least tell he was no longer in the lab. He was now in a forest and it was midday as far as Ash could tell.

Ash then blinked rapidly, his vision getting clearer as the seconds passed, he eventually was able to see clearly taking in the surroundings.

He saw trees, a cliff that led to more forest and a tail, wait what?

He tried to rub his eyes, maybe it was probably just a symptom of waking up, but instead of hands coming up into his view paws came up instead, they were small pink and barely reached his eyes.

Ash panicked, tail flicking past his vision, now completely straight instead of wavy.

Ash then realized he was no longer human. He was now a Pokémon, he was now a Mew.

"Oh man, how's mom going to react to this?" Ash asked to no one but himself. "Wait, if I'm a Pokémon then why can I still speak normally?"

"Probably 'cause it's the first language ya learned." The Ursaring behind him said.

Ash squeaked in fear of being attacked, but it never came. The Ursaring just looked confused if anything.

"If I wanted to attack ya, I woulda done it already."

Ash calmed down after the Ursaring explained himself.

"So, ya plannin' ta go home?"

"Of course, my mom would be so sad if I just went missing and the police couldn't find me." Ash answered with a sad expression evident on his face.

"No need to worry, I'll get ya back to ya folks."

"Thanks, Uh…"

"it's just Ursaring."

"I'm Ash and also, who's that?" Ash pointed at the sleeping Pokémon.

"That might take some explainin' to do."

After Ursaring's explanation, though it was more of a theory than an explanation the Pokémon woke up.

'That was single handedly the worst headache I've ever-.' It spoke in telepathy and stopped when they looked around, the voice was distinctly male.

"Hi Young one, what's ya name?" Ursaring asked calmly as to not suddenly spook the assumed psychic type.

'I was called Mewtwo, so that's my name. Who are you two though? I don't recognize you from the lab?'

Ursaring winced slightly before saying. "The lab ya were made in is now just a pile of rubble, I checked last night when ya lot were still asleep. And I found these in the wreckage." Ursaring Showed two clear white stones to Ash and Mewtwo.

"Mega Stones?" Ash asked and Ursaring nodded in reply.

"I don't know which Pokémon these be compatible with, but I think ya should keep 'em." Ursaring indicated Ash.

"Why me?"

"Won't ya be a trainer soon, at least judgin' by what ya looked like before."

"In three weeks."

"See, so keep 'em and see which Pokémon they're compatible with." Ursaring handed the two Mega Stones to Ash.

"Where am I supposed to put these though, I kinda don't have pockets." Ursaring just laughed.

'Did Ambertwo survive?' Mewtwo asked entering the conversation.

"Sorry to disappoint ya kid, but it's likely they didn't. I was only able to save Ash here and I found ya after me and him escaped."

'Ash was it? Can I come with you to your home. I don't really have any place to stay at the moment.'

"Yeah sure, mom will enjoy the extra company."

"Do ya lot know any moves?" Ursaring asked the two as they talked.

Ash shook his head, while Mewtwo produces a Shadow Ball in his right hand. And lifted a rock with his left.

"Psychic and Shadow Ball, eh? That's pretty good for now." Ursaring nodded to himself.

"And you don't know any moves at all?" Ursaring asked for confirmation and Ash nodded to the question.

"Okay." Ursaring said as he got up. "Looks like we're gonna have to da some trainin'"

"I think ya should try and learn some of the moves I know." Ursaring went up to a tree and used shadow claw. He then went to another tree and used play rough.

"Wow, I can learn that?" Ash asked in amazement.

"With a little bit of practice ya can."

"A lot of moves are basically just pure instinct, meanin' that a lot of it is already in your head and ya can use it any time. Just try and use shadow claw on that tree." Ursaring pointed at a relatively thin tree.

Ash nodded and floated over to the tree, thankfully not having to learn how to fly in his new body. He raised a paw and swiped at the tree, though the swipe only produced a scratch instead of shadow claw.

"Try thinkin' of the name of the move, it usually helps." Ash nodded and tried again.

This time there was a purple glow that enveloped his paw, it was still weak though and barely made a dent in the tree bark.

"Good. Now just keep practice until ya can make big claw marks on the trunk."

After saying this Ursaring went to go find some food.

Ursaring started making it back shortly after obtaining a few Chansey eggs, that the Chansey happily shared. And some berries to restore some of their energy.

He arrived at the 'camp site' and saw a fire, with Ash and Mewtwo sitting near it and conversing.

"Oh! Ursaring your back. I mastered shadow claw now."

"Well that's good, but how did ya start a fire, i don't remember Mewtwo having a fire type move."

"I learned how to make one in a summer camp I attended a while back."

"I see... well I brought us some grub." Ursaring said as he gave Ash and Mewtwo an egg each and a some Sitrus berries he was able to find. "Dig in."

He then took one of the eggs and started to eat.

The others followed, eating the food provided.

It was the next day, with Ursaring, Mewtwo and Ash making the trek back to Pallet Town.

Ursaring said it would probably take a day or two, not counting stopping to eat and rest.

'So, Ash. What's it like in Pallet Town?' Mewtwo asked, trying to pass the time as they walked/floated.

"It's very quiet and small, basically everybody knows everybody there."

'What was that trainer thing Ursaring talked about?"

"Pokémon trainers are humans that basically train, battle, and bond with Pokémon."

'Aren't you a Pokémon yourself?'

"I was human before... this." He gestured to himself and continued. "But I still want to be a trainer, plus being able to understand Pokémon is so cool."

'Humans can't understand Pokémon?'

"Not normally, unless they had a psychic type that studied the language for long enough. Like what you're doing right now."

The conversation went on for a little while, with Mewtwo learning a bit more about humans and Ash getting the basics tips from Mewtwo for how psychic works.

"It's almost midday. I think we should stop for now." Ursaring said as the group passed a small clearing. "This looks like a good spot to take a break."

Ash and Mewtwo nodded and sat down on the soft grass, Ash found a rock to sit on.

Ursaring then left to go find food for the group.

After a few minutes of waiting and talking with one another, Ash eventually said.

"I should probably go train, still gotta figure out psychic."

Ash then floated to the edge of the clearing and started to try and lift the small pebbles around him, with mild success.

About an hour or so later Ursaring Returned, Bringing with him a sack of various berries.

"This should last us a couple o' days." Ursaring then went into thought. "Maybe a wee bit more if we ration it well, but for now, lunch."

After lunch the group continued on route to Pallet Town.

Ash, through his training, has been able to lift bigger and bigger rocks. Though he still needs to do a bit more training to confidently use the move in battle.

He also somewhat figured out how to go invisible through a random flock of Spearow screeching curses at something.

Though right now Ash is figuring out or at least trying to figure out how to transform into other Pokémon.

He saw the Mew he met before do it, so now he's trying it himself.

'What... are you doing?' Mewtwo asked, looking over at Ash, observing what he thought was discomfort or pain of some kind.

"Trying to figure out how to transform. I saw a Mew do it before so..."

'Do you think I could do it too?'

"I'm not sure. You kinda look like a Mew, so maybe?" Ash answered with a shrug.

The conversation went on for the rest of the day, shifting topics from topics about Mew to topics about the kanto starters.

v0rt3x: Chapter 2 done. Ended on a bit of weird note, but this was all the stuff I had planned for the chapter. Also Ursaring's accent just randomly came to me while writing his lines, I don't apologize.
