Kirby gets accidentally separated from the squad and meets up with an elderly German man who gives him a new perspective

When I wrote my first fanfiction, I ran into a possible problem and completely rewrote it. Both stories wound up in a Combat! 'zine. I wondered how Caje had wound up in his predicament, so I wrote this prequel to either (or both) of them.

Saunders visits with Lt. Hanley as he lay unconscious in Medical after being wounded five days before. Having no luck in waking the Lieutenant during that time, Dr. Porter suggests that Saunders try talking to the LT. As he sits beside his friend, Saunders recalls another time and place in a similar situation...six years ago on their first patrol together. "Hey, do you remember..."

One of the first things I ever wrote in the Combat! field. A spoof about a fanfiction writer who uses too many semicolons (i.e., me) and how it affects the squad. Short piece.

A recon mission turns into a rescue mission for Saunders and Kirby.

This story is part three of an ongoing tale. Part one being "A Husbands Promise" and two being "Her Soldier". It is best to start at the beginning of any story...non? So hopefully you have read parts one and two. We pick up our story with the squad marching out to fight the war that is raging all about the tiny field hospital where Caje, who is still recovering, must stay.

Back in 2012 I wrote a story called TO ALL WHO SERVED. I was never satisfied with the ending. So I decided to write a small continuation of the story. Kirby and Brockmeyer are wounded and find that they are in the same hospital. Brockmeyer wants Kirby to meet someone that is special to him.

It's Christmas Eve and the men of King Company are enjoying a little "Peace and Goodwill"...Sharing traditions, gifts from home and good tidings...as one of the guys said "War Doesn't Acknowledge Holidays"...while this is true...even in War time you can appreciate peace...

Lt. Hanley is given the task of leading a squad of his men to observe a town being used by the Germans as an OC. When things don't go according to plan he's ordered to clear the town before Capt. Jampel arrives with the rest of 2nd Platoon. Five men against twenty...with limited supplies and resources...Hanley and the squad will need one Hell of a Plan to complete this mission.

It's Kirby's birthday and he gets a special gift.

At the end of "Beneath the Ashes" Kovac says to Sgt. Saunders "I have to tell him" to which Saunders replied "You can tell him later...we still have a job to finish." Kovac asks "Do you think he'll understand?" Saunders didn't really give an answer...of course I started to wonder how Kovac would tell the LT and if Hanley would understand...this is what I came up with.

The mission called for Lt. Hanley and Sgt Saunders to lead a squad of men from King Company to join up with Lt. Harper and a squad from Love Company to remove a squad of German Soldiers from an old School needed by Battalion. Though the mission is successful the trip back to 2nd Platoon for King Company doesn't go by the book.

Billy and Littlejohn make a wager.

As Saunders fights for his life after VE Day, the squad breaks up as the men go their separate ways.

When Lt. Hanley picks up Sgt. Saunders from a nearby town where the Sergeant had been enjoying a forty-eight hour pass to take him back to King Company on the way they run into a little mishap, leaving the two men to finish the trip back to base on foot. While not an ideal situation it does allow for a few rare moments.

When Corp. Velasquez blew the winery to prevent the Germans from using it as an observation post he lost his life. Lt. Hanley and Kirby were injured as they tried to get to cover when the explosion went off. Now with a German Patrol on their tail, Mother Nature throwing tantrums and both men at less than 100 percent they have to make their way back to base.

Something from the archives. A homefront story, told by Caje's sister in first person. This is what the LeMay family went through after "The Leader", when Caje was stabbed, as they waited for, and then received, notice of how he was injured.

A flash fiction (less than 1000 words) piece I wrote for our online Combat! writing group - we came up with "pretty words" (and some that weren't bad, but might be mistaken, if you didn't know what they meant :) ). A moment for Doc to find some peace and quiet before the war begins again.

When Allied forces shell Chateau Ahmandy it's up to Caje to help a wounded Lt. Hanley back to base in time to warn Battalion about German troop movements that will occur in less than twenty four hours which could cause a lot of damage if not stopped. With trying to keep Hanley on his feet and both of them away from German patrols Caje has his hands full and time is running out.

After Lt. Hanley is shot by the Germans it's up to Saunders, Caje, Doc and Garrett to make sure he makes it back to 2nd Platoons base camp but things do not always go the way a Sergeant plans.

A story from early in Kirby and Alex's relationship. This just popped into my head after watching Memphis Belle.

Side story to "Silver Service". En route to his leave, Caje's driver is killed and Caje is left alone, injured, delirious (with a cast of thousands) and facing a sniper. Kirby rides to the rescue, but will be in time?

A short drabble-ish fic I wrote during a very long, very boring road trip. The squad is on its way to Paris...and that's pretty much the entire plot. Told from multiple POVs.
