Opening line and title taken from the prompt "I won't do it and you can't make me." Starsky's tooth is still hurting and Hutch forces him to go to the dentist.

The March SHFAFF Friday Fiction prompt was "Just when you think you've seen it all." These are almost the very words Starsky says in the episode "The Crying Child" (Season 3). I couldn't get that scene, which I have always found compelling, out of my mind so this is just a few of Starsky and Hutch's thoughts behind what is happening in the scene.

A routine stake out turns dangerous when two boys try to out maneuver Starsky, Hutch and a killer.

Story relates to the episodes 'Little Girl Lost' and 'Bloodbath'. Hutch is trying to support Molly/Pete and Starsky in the couple of weeks after both of their life changing experiences. Story includes parts of 'Butterfly Mind' and 'Life Raft' but is extended and includes Hutch answering some of Molly's lingering worries. Also why did Hutch get that tree for Starsky?

Starsky cleans out the backseat of Hutch's car.

"Hutch had to get there. If he didn't, then Detective Todd Chandler was as good as dead. He had to let Starsky know that Chandler's cover was about to be blown...They knew there was a buyer, but no one could have expected it would be a police academy dropout. Much less one who could identify Chandler as a cop."
