Generallius: I did enjoy writing for that conversation for Vanilla. I didn't really have anything planned for Vanilla at first, but then I got the idea and it wrote itself. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it.

ABCD: I love that you're enjoying the story. I guess the answer is going to be heavily implied.

Crazybeebee: I really did love writing that last section. Surge is certainly going to learn something by the end of this.

Albian: Ok, So Sonic and Surge have been around each other for roughly 9 days( 8 sections + the day off). That's more than enough time for people to bond and develop some level of feelings for someone. Also, Surge strikes me as a quick-to-passion character, leaping before she looks.

I don't Tails has ever brought it up directly that he's an orphan.

Poor little Kit is definitely going to be tested.

TailsFangirl(CH5): I don't like the cursing either, but it is in character for Surge. I have been toning it down a bit as time has gone on with criticism from Sonic. I guess I do have to remind you this is rated T.

Giyuufan: Ah, in a perfect world, it would be so easy.

Sonic heard the shower start up as he sat down by Tails, pushing his wet quills into the fluffy puff balls. Tails yelped as Sonic continued to dry himself off.

Tails yelped again as Sonic brushed upward and Tails finally asked, "Ok, what did I do?"

"You didn't tell me about what you were doing with Surge." Sonic smiled at his little brother, and the fox jerked his tails away from Sonic, but he certainly looked thrown off enough to know that Sonic was serious.

"What are you talking about?" Tails grumbled, nursing the skin under the fur that was probably just irritated from the light pricks the fox endured.

"Come on, you've been going behind my back to dig through Starline's old bases." Sonic smiled at his little buddy. Tails continued to nurse his tails. Sonic groaned, "Come on, that did not hurt you."

Tails sighed and slumped down, "Yeah, ok, I tried to help Surge because she has a right to want to know."

"I know that. I was ready to help her, but you wanted to keep that from me. I don't like it when you go behind my back. It's not cool. We're supposed to have each other's backs." Sonic grumbled as Kit continued to shuffle away.

Tails slumped down, "I know, I just thought you wouldn't like her trying to find out about her past."

Sonic looked down. He really didn't have a right to tell her to stop looking into her past. She was letting her lack of knowledge define who she was, and Sonic saw a lot of problems coming from that mentality.

If they fed her hunger for that knowledge which may or may not exist, the outcome could be fantastic, where Surge returns to her old self and goes back to her loved ones. The alternative though, was what had already happened, but worse. Surge attempting to destroy the world because she couldn't see anything but what was taken from her.

Then there was the other part of Sonic: the part that cared about her, and wanted to see her succeed. It wasn't exactly the smarter part of him, but he couldn't help that he felt back for everything that had happened to her. And that emotional part of him was stronger than his logical part.

Sonic also couldn't help but feel part of her was right when she gave her criticism of his policies with regards to not killing Eggman. Not that Sonic thought killing Eggman was a good idea, but that Surge was a product of Eggman getting off the hook too many times.

So Sonic was going to try and be there, because he knew that he couldn't stop Surge from doing what she wanted. Sonic could, however, be the friend that stopped her from going too far, and helped her make sense of the world even as it continued to hurt her.

"I'm sorry Sonic…" Tails sighed, "I know I broke your trust, but I wanted to help her. It won't happen again, I promise."

Sonic smiled, and ruffled Tails' fur, "Don't worry about it."

Sonic then zipped and grabbed Kit, who yelped and shook. He looked terrified, but Sonic set the heavy Fennec kit in his lap and stroked his ears gently, "You're not in trouble. It's ok, I'm not mad at you." Sonic smiled at him, and he poked his snout up to see Sonic pull his fingers to the back of the Fennec's head, and scratched downward.

Kit began to purr as Sonic continued to stroke behind the Fennec's ears. Then Sonic felt Kit's head roll back, and collapse on him. Sonic looked down and saw Kit's eyes were closed, and he was sleepin ever so quietly.

Sonic looked over at Tails, who crept away slightly, "Where are you going?"

Tail jolted up, and turned around, "I figured I could go and work on the tornado for a little bit." Tails smiled at SOnic.

"No, you get to bed." Sonic growled, but didn't move. Kit was snuggled up deeper in Sonic's arms.

"But Sonic, I can-" Tails pleaded, but Sonic heard it all before.

"Tails, you keep pulling all-nighters and it's not ok. You gotta learn balance." Sonic groaned, before pointing back up the stairs with his finger, trying hard not to wake the sleepy Fennec, "Look at what you've done with Kit, come on."

"But we were having fun!" Tails pleaded, growing angry as he usually did when he was really tired. Kit wasn't used to pulling all-nighters which was showing with how the little guy was just so tired.

Sonic scowled at his little buddy. Tails got the message and nodded, before he got a mischievous grin. Sonic didn't like his look as he walked over to the couch, and slumped on Sonic's arm. Sonic rolled his eyes.

"You really couldn't resist, could you." Sonic sighed, almost laughing.

Tails snuggled up closer, ensuring that there was no way Sonic was going to be able to get up off the couch without waking up one of the foxes. So Sonic reclined his head, and listened to the shower turn off.

Sonic closed his eyes as he drifted, not into a dream-like state, but more in his own thoughts. They were going to get Amy. Eggman's plans would once again be thwarted, as was Sonic's style. Sonic definitely could use Amy's help. Surge probably had a lot in her head that Sonic wouldn't be able to get out.

Amy was a good listener, and Sonic was pretty sure she would love to talk to Surge, and help her get on her feet. He couldn't think of a single reason Amy would ever be hostile to…

Sonic's eyes opened and to his surprise four hours had passed. The Fennec was gone, but Sonic could see the light from the bathroom across the hall. Would Amy really get hostile over a misunderstanding? Sonic began to worry about the meeting. He would definitely have to explain he and Surge's relationship before things got twisted.

Their relationship… They were friends… right? Surge had said so, so Sonic hoped it was true. That being said, Sonic did a couple doubts in his head. Was she faking it? Was she looking for… something else? Sonic felt anxiety work its way into his head.

He wasn't sure why, but Surge was a touchy subject for him. He could shrug off Amy's advances, but if Surge did the same, he hesitated. Amy probably wouldn't go and burn down a town in rage. That was it, Sonic was worried that Surge would retaliate if Sonic didn't understand the situation. That's why Surge was different.

Sonic got up and went into the kitchen to get himself some water. Then He heard giggling coming from the bathroom. Sonic walked over to the door, and saw that it was cracked. He also heard the water running. Sonic peaked inside and saw Kit… playing on the floor with water people.

Sonic could make out the vague shapes. He could tell which was Kit because the top of the head was large, and Sonic could make out the shapes of sort-of-looking ears. He could tell which one was Surge, because of the unique head structure, with spikes going forward.

Then Sonic saw the other characters. A blob with… two end appendages? Sonic couldn't tell because the water stream from Kit's pack. It was probably Tails. Then there was Sonic, the last one. Sonic could see Kit playing with the little water figurines, bouncing them around like toys.

Sonic then saw a water tentacle go up into the sink and pick up more water from the running stream. They then mixed with more water, and make what looked like a miniature Faris wheel. Sonic saw Kit move Sonic and Tails into one of the water made cars, and Surge and Kit into another car. The wheel began to turn before-

Kit stretched his head up, and opened his mouth in a large yawn.

Sonic pulled back from the door and smiled. He then moved back to the couch and sat down, letting his eyes close into dream land. Or rather, the lack of dream land, because Sonic opened his eyes and saw Kit sleeping on his chest. The little Fennec had a sleepy smile on his face, and his little hands curled up on Sonic's chest.

Sonic smiled, and stroked the Fennec's ears. They stood up, and Kit opened his eyes, looking up at Sonic.

"Did you get up in the middle of the night?" Sonic asked, cocking his head with a smile.

"No." Kit lied shrinking down.

Sonic raised his right eyebrow, "Are you sure?"

Kit slumped down even more.

Sonic shook his head, and sat up, "Look Kit, I don't mind if you are up late, but I'd like you to be honest with me."

Kit nodded, and got off him, "I had to go to the bathroom."

Sonic nodded, not wanting to push the embarrassed Fennec any further. Sonic stood up and yawned, "Let's go see if we can get something to eat in the kitchen."

Kit nodded, and they walked in… to find Surge watching a pan with sharp focus. She didn't seem to waver or anything. Sonic could see her fist tight around the spatula in her hand.

"What is she-?" Sonic started to ask.

"Shut the fuck up, I'm trying to focus." Surge growled.

Sonic looked to the plate beside the pan, and saw the very-dark brown pieces of French Toast.

"Alright, flip." Tails ordered, and Surge flipped the toast in the pan. It was golden on top, perfect.

"Bullshit, how'd you know?" Surge growled at Tails, before immediately refocusing back on the pan.

"The sides turn brown. That's when it's cooked perfectly. You'll get it eventually." Tails smiled at her reassuringly.

Unfortunately, she did not get it. When Tails wasn't there, they would always turn out dark brown and pretty close to over cooked.

Still, Sonic didn't complain when Surge set the plate down in front of Sonic. Instead he smiled at her, "Thanks for making breakfast."

Surge didn't acknowledge the compliment, or at least in a way he could see, "I ain't gonna let this shit beat me." She scowled, gritting her teeth.

Sonic smirked, and passed around some syrup, before pour some on himself.

"So… Today you are going to get Amy?" Tails asked, sounding a little nervous.

"Yeah, She's off east somewhere. Towards the end of the Island." Sonic shrugged, cutting into his French toast.

"Are you sure it's a good idea to bring… her." Tails nodded Surge's way, which did not go unnoticed.

"What the hell does that mean?" Surge growled, her hand on her fork becoming tighter.

"It… well." Tails struggled with the words before sighing, "Let's just say that Amy is a little… protective of Sonic."

Sonic groaned at those words.

"Yeah, well, That's good. I've tried to kill this bitch before." Surge snorted, reclining back, in her chair as she lifted another piece of French toast in her mouth.

"I mean with other girls around him." Tails began to draw attention to the coming situation.

Surge blinked and Sonic jumped in, "Look, it's not going to matter because we'll all be there, and you can explain to Amy what is going on."

Surge smirked, with a smile that he wasn't sure he liked at all.

Tails shook his head, "I cant go there."

Sonic blinked, "Why not?" That really threw a wrench into their plans. Sonic needed Tails to keep Amy off him. She had just started to calm down.

"I put a worm in Eggman's system. It got through, and I am going to go digging through his files. I have a feeling that there's more to this story than just saving our friends. Eggman has to have a plan." Tails explained in a frustratingly logical way. Sonic couldn't exactly come up with a counter argument.

"Worm?" Surge asked, squinting.

"Sciencey stuff." Sonic sort of explained. Surge nodded.

"I'm sure you can handle it, Sonic. I need to check this out, just in case."

Sonic sighed, but nodded, "Alright, I guess We'll head there on our own."

They finished breakfast, and Sonic made sure to double check the map before he walked out the door. If they headed East, then Sonic should have been able to find the rough area where the large quadruped was waiting.

He remembered getting tossed around by the thing as he stepped out with Surge and Kit waiting. He smiled at the two.

"So… who is this girl to you?" Surge asked with a teasing smirk.

"She's a friend. We've had a couple disagreements about boundaries, but that's in the past. She's really grown into a mature young lady." Sonic forced a smile, and grabbed the ring.

"Sure…" Surge grinned mischievously.

Sonic sighed and tossed the warp ring. They stepped out into the jungle. As they walked out, Sonic stretched out his back and growled, "Alright, one last rescue, you ready, Surge? Kit?"

Kit perked up but looked at Surge, and drooped a little bit. Surge, however, grinned, "Let's fucking do this!"

Sonic returned a grin, and the two took off. Surge carried Kit on her back, as the rushed east. They burst out of the jungle onto strange, gold sand. Sonic was pretty sure that the sand shouldn't have looked like that.

Still Sonic and Surge kept running. There were two deserts on this island, which Sonic felt was a little odd. Then Sonic looked ahead and saw a possible explanation. There was a massive Fortress. Two rounded turrets stood at the top of the gate. They turned with two barrels each to fire at Sonic and Surge.

"SPLIT!" Sonic shouted and Surge looked at Sonic with confused before she caught on and bolted right as Sonic bolted left.

The two turrets fire at them. Sonic and Surge joined back up. Sonic ran as fast as he could and slammed into the gate, tearing through the lock. The doors flew open as Surge burst inside. Sonic and Surge stood at the entrance.

"What's going on? Where's the fucking fanfare? Did he really cheap out like a little bitch?" Surge growled looking around at the surprisingly empty city/fortress. There was a street in front of them, wide with several buildings and alleyways. There were also paths left and right to take.

Sonic shrugged, "I guess we came a bad time." Sonic smirked at Surge. Surge grinned back at him.

She cracked her knuckles, "It's about to get fucking worse."

Kit piped up, "Do you think the bots are hiding?"

Sonic and Surge turned to look at the Fennec. Kit shrunk down at their eyes, "S-Sorry."

"No, you may be right." Sonic smiled and the fennec lit up and turned to Surge.

Surge glanced down at Kit, who kept up his hopeful gaze.

"Yeah, yeah you little shit, you did good." Surge growled and rolled her eyes. Kit didn't seem to mind the insults, instead just happy for the praise.

Suddenly, several badniks burst out of alleys. Some bird badniks, some Monkey badniks, Some saw-beetle badniks and some Egg pawns.

"Alright, you take left, and I'll take right?" Surge asked grinning at Sonic.

Sonic grinned, and nodded back at her. The two bolted forward. Sonic zipped over and jumped over the saw-beetles, before rolling back. Sonic saw Surge zipping through the air, slamming into the bird-badniks.

Sonic kept up as Kit was throwing coconuts back at the Monkey badniks.

Sonic then turned to see Badniks… coming from a particular building in the city. The building was very large, and looked like the biggest hanger Sonic had ever seen.

He turned to Tell Surge, but she was starring to the right of the large street they were fighting on. There was a Second hanger that way.

Sonic called, "We'll split up! I'll check the left one, you check the right one." Sonic called out to Surge. Surge flashed Sonic a thumbs up but stayed focused on the bots in front of her.

Sonic zipped towards the large hangar, and burst down the door. He was met with blasts from lasers and Egg pawns. Sonic zipped around and smashed through the Egg Pawns on the first floor of the Hangar, only for wall turrets to start shooting at him. Sonic ran and got under the stairwell.

Sonic then zipped up the stairs, but jumped backwards when he got to the top, bouncing from Turret to Turret, working his way around the hangar, occasionally having to jump higher or lower to avoid getting shot.

Then, Sonic fell down and landed on the ground once he made a complete loop. Then it was up the stair well.

What was so big that Eggman needed-

Sonic's eyes wandered to outside the control and Sonic gasped, "Uh-oh."

Before him stood a massive, probably three story mech. It seemed humanoid, but instead of Eggman's face on it, the head was in the shape of skull. Sonic could see the dull red eyes that would probably light up. The Arms were massive, and Sonic could make out a few cannons on the side of thick, hard hands that were most definitely going to cause problems if he got caught in them.

Even the shoulder pads seemed to have golden plates where shields would be deployed. There was a pack on the Large Badnik's back, but Sonic didn't exit points for thrusters. Sonic's eyes wandered lower.

As he got to the check, there was a socket on each pectoral muscle, meaning this Super Badnik was meant to use two mobians. Sonic's eyes then wandered down to below the chest where there were seven niches with strange blue plating around them. More armor and plating followed as Sonic's eyes went lower. There wasn't a lot about the legs that made Sonic anymore nervous, but he had a feeling this thing could have been devastating.

Sonic then looked at the Computers. The Super Badnik's name: ATLAS. Sonic got to confirm everything he thought about it. There were slots for two mobians, one of which supposed to be him, judging by the model being used.

Sonic's eyes wandered back to the Super There was a hatch on the back of the pack, which was apparently a large battery designed to store all the power needed. Even with two Mobians, the thing would use a lot of power.

Sonic nodded, but sighed in relief that the machine wasn't able to be used, "You know, you might have been good. You could have been a tough cookie to fight alright. Oh well, I'm glad I didn't have to."

Sonic then heard an explosion from outside. Sonic turned around to face direction, perhaps staring at a bland, grey wall, but still curious. Sonic turned back to ATLAS. It wasn't a threat, no matter how big it was. Whatever was out there, that was a real threat.

Sonic bolted out of the hanger, to find the Large Ox Super Badnik. Surge was already getting starting, and Sonic wasn't going to leave her alone.

Alright, with my life getting hectic, I've had to start sacrificing time on my other story to make sure this one still gets some work. Still, I'm having fun.

Leave a review or PM with any questions or criticism you might have. A PM will always remain private, and will be updated when I can. A review will be responded to the next chapter I post, which for this one will be tomorrow.
