Disclaimer: They don't belong to me which is too bad cause I'm a poor college senior.
Cheyenne Mountain, SGC HQ Science Lab
Major Carter typed diligently away on her laptop. Most passersby assumed she was working on cold fusion, anti-gravity generators, or a light saber. If anyone in the outside world could know about the stuff (yes, it's a scientific word) she did, Carter would surely get a Nobel, at least. But few people would ever know, and Major Carter kept on working.
Major Carter had always kept a journal. It was a way to organize her thoughts and release tension. Ever since she started at the SGC, her journal was one of the few things that kept her sane. Checking over her shoulder for onlookers or a certain skulking Colonel, Carter opened up her journal and began to write.
12/11/03 11:53 Hours I should've known something was wrong the minute Jack started using technical jargon correctly. Not that Jack is stupid; he just doesn't usually broadcast his knowledge in mission briefings. More than that, I should've believed him. Jack has absolute faith in what I say and me. I should be able to return that. Considering, well, considering how things are with us. The faith and trust are an integral part of our.relationship. Not to mention the other thing we can't mention. A thing we left in the damn room. A thing that, despite my best defenses, dominates so many of my thoughts. But I digress. If I'd just believed Jack from the start we could've saved a lot of time. Hindsight is 20/20, or so people say.
What I wonder is what the little smile at breakfast this morning was all about. I've learned to read Jack's expressions pretty well and I know he's hiding something. Instinct tells me it has something to do with me. Part of me really wants to know but another part cautions against it. What if it's against regs and knowing Jack it probably is. I wonder how I can get it out of him? He's Black Ops trained and really good at keeping a secret...
Carter tensed as she felt someone standing behind her. She relaxed slightly as the person's cologne identified him. Sam immediately re- stiffened when she realized he was reading over her shoulder.
"Colonel, it's not polite to spy on people."
"Come on Carter. It's not spying when you leave the door open. You know I don't know how to knock."
"Yeah, sir. I know." Sam sighed.
"Well, I'm sorry my presence offends you, Carter."
"No, sir, it's not that at all." Sam responded quickly.
"So, you want to know what happened during the loops?"
"I'd really like for you to tell me, sir." She said sheepishly.
"Why don't I show you instead"? Jack said with a grin.
Jack pulled Sam quickly to her feet and grasped her shoulders. ~~~ So, Sam thought, that's what he did during the loop. We need to do that loop thing more often. Then she smiled.
