Disclaimer: teen wolf does not belong to me in any way, shape or form - sadly haha. Anyways, welcome to this new fic. I'm so excited to begin to share this with you all. I've really wanted to write a prequel to the series for a while, as Kayla has had such a complicated life and there was so much that had happened to her before she came to Beacon Hills, so I really wanted to explore that so everyone can see why Kayla is the way she is. I sure hope you all liked and please favourite, follow and review if you can - thank you :)
This is just an opening chapter... a prologue/preface I suppose, just to give you a wee taste. The following chapters will be much longer.
She wasn't ever intending to become this person.
This person who was negative, closed off... bitter. A shadow of her former self really. She still had her wit and charm about her, a peculiar dark humour that others sometimes struggled with, but her joy - her happiness and easy going nature was now tainted with grief and despair, a cloud of darkness following her like a curse.
She wondered where it all went wrong. What the pivotal moment was that sent her on the path of destruction.
There was too much shit though to pinpoint the one exact moment that broke the camels back, so to speak.
Looking back, she guessed it was a cumulation of traumas stacking themselves one on top of the other, pushing her to a colossal sized breakdown and leading her to this exact second: sitting on a hot, noisy and overcrowded plane on the way to Beacon Hills, California.
She wasn't happy about it.
Why the hell would she want to go back to the town where her entire family burnt to death - murdered, all because they were apart of the supernatural. She hadn't been there since she was ten and, quite frankly, she would be happy to not step foot past its borders.
Unfortunately, her mom was adamant. Why, she had no idea. She used the excuse that Kayla's dad had businesses and shares there that she had to deal with but Kayla didn't believe it for one second. Why not sell up? Give up whatever it was and move on? To her, that was the sensible thing but, after all, her mom wasn't really that sensible.
Speaking of...
A harsh jerk of an elbow dug into Kayla's ribs and she glanced up gloomily, quirking a brow at her mom who pointed to her own ears, indicating for Kayla to remove her ear buds.
She pulled one out by the wire, letting it hang down her front as she waited expectantly to get chewed out - for what, she had no idea, but she knew it had to be something.
"Your music is too loud" her mom chastised, "turn it down"
See? Typical.
She silently obliged but couldn't help the snarky eye roll, turning her music down a couple of notches and went to put her ear bud back in but the intercom beeped overhead, a static voice coming to life.
"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. The time is currently 3.57pm and we are 11 minutes ahead of schedule. We are soon preparing for descent to Sacramento airport so please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts. The weather is a chilly 48 degrees Fahrenheit with light rain so make sure to wear your jackets upon exit from the aircraft. I would like to thank you all for a pleasant flight and for flying with Delta airlines"
Urgh. She wished he would take his thanks and shove it up his ass.
The cabin crew began moving up and down the aisle, checking everyone had their belts on, their table trays up and were alert and listening so when they reached her row the woman pointed to her ear buds, asking her to remove them.
She just pulled them out, wrapping it around her iPod and shoving it into the small bag between her feet, stuck listening to the hustle and bustle of two hundred people surrounding her, not to mention the annoying kids screaming three rows ahead of her.
It was hell.
Complete and utter hell.
She wished the plane would just crash.
The seatbelt sign kept flashing above her head, the slow descent beginning to make her ears pop so she just shut her eyes, pressing her head back into her seat to try and shut everything out.
Her mom wanted them to start afresh... to start a new life, but how could she just move on? She lost so much. She lost everything that gave her life meaning and now she lost her home. Her friends. Everything she got accustomed too.
Her dad, her brother, her baby, Harry... they all left her. They weren't here anymore but she was. She was alive and kicking - unfortunately - and just expected to adjust to a whole new way of living?
She didn't think it was possible.
Without realising, she was rubbing the skin on the crook of her left elbow, something she sometimes found herself doing in times of high stress. Before, when she was in the depths of her depression and self destruction, she would find relief by injecting stuff into the very same place... but not anymore. Now she couldn't do that. She had to cope in a 'healthy way'... not to quote narcotics anonymous or anything.
The only thing was - she didn't know how to do that. She spent nearly the better part of a year hiding from the pain, masking it through alcohol, drugs, sex, you name it she did it, and suddenly she didn't have that lifeline anymore.
She had to start afresh.
She had to live up to expectations.
She had to live a life worth living...
Apparently, the place she had to do that was Beacon Hills.
Beacon fucking Hills.
...
But that's skipping some of the most important parts of the story. The juicy, gripping, edge of your seat suspense.
The bloodshed and death. The torment. The chaos that was Aiden and Ethan's dangerous lives. The fall into drugs and alcohol that nearly cost her her life several times. Her struggle with her decision regarding her baby's life. The cover up of her best friends death. The struggle of leaving Louisiana, unable to shake the feeling that something wasn't right. Like something in Beacon Hills was about to go dead wrong.
No, let's start at the beginning shall we?
A/N) I'm so excited for this. It's gonna be an interesting dynamic to see Kayla before her dad and brother died, then how she dealt with that grief which then lead to Aiden... warning; it's a hella toxic relationship as you all probably know haha so please please review and I will see you all soon :) xxx
