There is a word that exposes the very soul of John Thorntons relationship with Margaret Hale. One word which defines their love, their life, and their desperate pursuit of one for the other. One word that ties together each shared moment, and embodies every aspect of a battle not so easily won: Suppression.

Modern AU! John Thornton manages the business front of Thornton Textiles on Milton Street in Chicago. For Christmas, all he wants is to be with his family in New Zealand. Instead, he ends up in NY with his PA for Christmas.

So the title is self-explanatory. The story is about our two favourite people falling in love.

A continuation of North and South Book by Elizabeth Gaskell picking up in the back parlor after the agreement between Margaret and John. Lots of fluff and smut mixed with historical probability and accuracy (as best as possible).

John and Margaret's wedded bliss; or, John and Margaret's strife and suffering. An often dramatic, sometimes smutty account of the Thornton marriage. Influenced by both Gaskell and BBC.

What if the circumstances of John's and Margaret's first encounter was less dramatic and they were more civil to each other? Would they come to an understanding sooner than in canon? This is my first attempt at writing a bit of smut about Gaskell's beloved characters just for fun. I am no writer. This is unedited. OOC.
