This a modern retelling of North and South set in Philadelphia. Margaret Hale is a social worker who meets John Thornton, a CEO of health insurance company. As their paths continually cross, they begin to challenge their initial impressions of each other.

Margaret and Mr. Thornton gradually get to know each other better. With conversation, balls, politics, and Fanny.

'North & South' AU. Rumours are flying around Milton about Margaret and the man at Outwood Station, and the way Mr Bell and Mr Hale see it, it would be best if she were married as soon as possible. Mr Thornton seems the most likely candidate...

Aware that Margaret's grief extends beyond the recent death of her parents, Mr. Bell feels compelled to intervene on her behalf. He attempts to force the two lover's together before they are ready to confess their feelings.

How did John Thornton become what he is? How did he and his mother live all those years on nothing? What was it like to leave school? This is the story of John's struggle .

Did Mr Thornton ever get his gloves back after that disastrous proposal? This is my take on it! The story is loosely based on the BBC TV series, and the first of a few short chapters. I would be grateful for comments, as this is my first N&S fic. Thanks!
