Waking up after you've died is a surreal feeling. You go from this weightless nothingness to feeling... everything. It's disorienting, and not to mention confusing. She'd died.
So why was she alive once more?
Touch was the first sense to return. The air rushing against her new sensitive skin was so cold it almost burned, and she couldn't have stopped her cries even if she tried. The blanket she was then wrapped in helped, but even the supposedly soft material felt scratchy against her skin.
Next came her hearing, if not a bit defective. Everything was either too loud or too soft and when she finally could hear normally, everything was going in and out.
"Congrat...had twins! What...oing to...me them?"
All she'd gotten out of that was she was now a twin apparently. Hopefully, she didn't have a surprise gender change. That would be too much even for her. Being reborn? Fine, why not? Suddenly having a penis? No thank you.
There was a pause long enough for her ears to begin clearing up, and she was passed along to who she supposed was her new mother, the direct skin contact soothing her in ways she didn't know she needed. It was her mother who spoke next, she knew, feeling the vibrations as she lay against her chest.
"This one, my youngest, will be Bonnie." Being so close, her voice was much clearer. If she couldn't hear the words, she could guess. She felt her mother lean down, away from her and towards who she assumed was her new sister to press a kiss against her forehead. "And this," she said, leaning back her way, "will be Elysia. Elysia and Bonnie Bennett." a kiss was pressed to her forehead, too.
A more masculine voice spoke, his voice a deep tenor. "Elysia and Bonnie... My baby girls. Do you mind passing me one of my daughters, Abby?"
The newly named Elysia's eyes widened just slightly more, the names Bonnie and Abby Bennett ringing in her ears. She knew that name. Both, actually. They were characters from one of her favorite tv shows. What were the odds of there being two mothers named Abby, each with a daughter named Bonnie and with the last name Bennett? Unless they were diehard fans of the show, Elysia wasn't liking the odds.
Her mother gave a slight hum, and she felt herself being passed over into the arms of her new father. His arms were much larger than her mother's, making her feel small but secure. She rather liked his gentle hold.
"My sweet Elysia... my, we're going to have two great beauties on our hands, aren't we?" He chuckles slightly, his finger brushing gently across her cheek.
It was silent after, her new mother holding her baby sister, Bonnie, and her father rocking her soothingly back and forth in his arms. She hardly noticed her eyes closing once more, sleep taking her.
A couple of weeks passed since her rebirth, and she finally knew for sure that she was in fact in the Vampire Diaries universe. Her new Grams was named Sheila, and she'd learned her father was Rudy. Exactly as it had been in the show.
Not to mention she'd seen both her mother and Grams performing magic. She guesses they figured there was no harm in the two seeing, as they were only babies.
Speaking of, Elysia adored her new sister already. Now that she knew this was in fact the Bonnie Bennett from the show, Elysia found herself feeling very protective over the sweet baby. The Bonnie in the show had sacrificed everything to help Elena and her vampire boy toys, and Elysia was not going to allow that to happen once more. Bonnie deserved much better than that.
It helped that little Bonnie already seemed very attached to her. When they first arrived at their new home, the two were placed in different cribs. Only, the second Bonnie woke to find them separated, she began screaming and crying. Nothing her parents or Grams did seemed to help, not even being soothed with magic. It was only once she was placed beside Elysia that she was calm once more, finally going back to sleep.
Yes, Elysia was going to do everything in her power—and that included her new magical ones—to keep her sister safe. She more than deserved it.
The years passed, and as they did, Bonnie and Elysia only grew closer. One couldn't be found without the other. Turns out, little Bonnie was not as independent as her older counterpart from the show. She dogged Elysia's every step, her hand clinging to the back of her shirt.
Even when the two were old enough to finally begin attending school, Bonnie continued to stay close. It was there that they met Elena Gilbert and Caroline Forbes.
Elysia and Elena had an immediate dislike towards one another. Elysia just couldn't help it. Even as a five-year-old, Elena was bossy and pushy. When she didn't get her way, she went right up to an adult to cry and blame others. Elysia stayed far away from the child, and as always, Bonnie followed her lead.
Caroline on the other hand... She truly was just a ball of sunshine as a child. Just the sweetest. She was kind to all the children, including Elena. She and Elysia got on like a house on fire. In fact, one of their encounters did accidentally result in a fire. It may have also involved Elena and an impromptu haircut.
Yeah, that was entirely her fault. At least she knew she had magic now, right?
Her new parents on the other hand... well that was a complicated relationship. Her dad tried. She'd give him that. It was obvious he loved his daughters. He bought them whatever they wanted, and gave them hugs and cuddles. The only real problem was that he worked. A lot. He was often away on long business trips, and it was obvious it was straining his relationship with their mom. When he was back home the two were always tense and arguing when they thought she and Bonnie weren't within hearing distance.
Their mom... It just seemed she didn't know how to be a mom. Similar to their dad, it was clear that she loved them. She just seemed tired all the time. Cooped up. She didn't have much of a life anymore outside of her children, and it really showed. She tried to be loving, but she was ultimately very distant with her two children.
To be honest, Elysia was sort of glad that was the case. She knew very soon her mother would be leaving, abandoning her children for Elena. That fact upset her more than anything. Sure, she didn't wish for Elena to die, especially not as a child. But she was already so tired of people always choosing Elena. Elysia was only five, for heaven's sake, and she'd already been relegated to a second choice.
Elysia sighed just thinking about it.
Now her Grams. Well. That was another complication. She was who they spent the most time with. The only problem was she was well on her way toward becoming an alcoholic. More and more she could be found asleep in her chair, a bottle held loosely in her hand. Honestly, it was no wonder the original Bonnie had trouble believing her Grams when she learned of her witch heritage; she truly was the town's 'crazy drunk' by that point. At this moment in time, she wasn't fully gone yet. Elysia hoped to keep it that way, but honestly, she wasn't holding her breath.
Her truest goal in life was to keep herself and Bonnie safe. That's it. Everything else was secondary. Even Caroline was more in the periphery, though she was well on her way towards making the list of those she'd keep safe.
That may seem sort of morally lacking, and truly she knew that. She just didn't have the capacity to care for those who wouldn't care in return, because when Elysia gave her loyalty, she gave it her all. She expected the same in return. Not to mention she kept her goals short and simple for another reason; as they say, 'even the best-laid plans go awry.'
She knew years of planning often went down the drain at the moment of their execution. Case in point, when the original Bonnie aimed to kill Klaus during the breaking of his curse. She and Elijah hadplanned for who knows how long, yet when the time came, circumstances changed, and the plans failed.
All this meant was that she was half winging it, half waiting till an event was closer to do something.
Still, despite the many issues her new life had, Elysia was grateful for the second chance. She was going to live this life to the fullest, hopefully keeping herself and her sister alive long enough to die of ripe old age.
A girl could hope
