Chapter 1: Collision
"We're turning the tide of this war!" Whispered a tired young woman as she stood above brimstone and fire pushing with all her might against a foe. The dark cloudy night sky was ablaze with the tide of war raging beneath it. Soot, sweat, dirt, and blood smeared across her determined expression as she continued her assault against the convoy of troops blaring their swords and shooting mounds of volcanic rock towards the vessel they were to protect. The dance of the raging fires flashed across her almond-colored skin. Smoked clogged the lungs of those still standing to fight the tortuous battle. Hot ashe that powdered the ground like snow fell from the heavens as the angels cried. Powerful combustions of raw energy, blades, and power ricocheted off the scorched land.
A battled worn warrior dressed in heavy metal and black and red armor slid his sword into the abdomen of his foe before pulling out. The emblem of his country stitched in the fabric along his chest painted in dirt and the red of the fallen. His weapon glistened with fresh blood as he slit the throat of another. He nodded his head looking out at the land covered in bodies of his brethren, the enemy, and various animals. Blood and decay soaked the earth. The clashing of metal sung a petrified tune as force was matched against brute strength. He could see the enemy had almost fallen to their knees, desiring to fight to the bitter end for a cause that went against the sentient being of their nature. Greed and revenge started this age-old war and now it was ending. They would win, but at what cost.
"King Maddeon of the Blood Dawn is on the field!" She shouted as gusts of fire spit from her fingers. Cries of despair broke from the lips of the enemy that was hit by her power. Her attackers had fallen, and she released a breath she didn't know she was holding. The power she just used was doing damage to her flesh. Her fingers burned and her a tiredness crept into her bones. She crouched down holding her side feeling the sting at her side. Her eyes flickered to the young knight as he moved towards their enemy. His large body moved towards his enemy and engaged in battle. A stray arrow flew towards the knights back, but she caught and tossed it back much like she had been doing with their weapons. A worrying pang carved itself into her mind. Her senses stretched seeking what she hoped to find.
"Imani!" She screamed as she prepared for an upcoming attack. The echo of the girl's name rang about in her eardrums. Her long deep violet curls whipped around her face faltered at the next attack. She clutched her side with one hand to stifle the hot blood that smeared her black uniform from a wound she had sustained in combat. Her barrier held but she was starting to feel the strain of the prolonged use of her magic. Her eyes flicked back towards the city to see the giant crystal they her sister constructed still held strong, aiding her in keeping up the protective shield over the people. Its defenses being tested and attacked by their blood thirsty foe that slung projectiles of fire and knives. She had already stretched herself between hold the barrier over her village, using her kinetic sensibilities to keep the communication line open, and put up an assault against the deadly army that found their city to be abomination of cretins.
A woman wrapped in red robes ran and crouched by her side, muttering her spells. Her shiny midnight straight hair hung behind her, billowing in the wind. Cuts and bruises marred her brown flesh. Her fingers were covered in a crystalized azure paste as she carefully peeled back the broken cloth so she could see the bleeding wound. She pushed the woman's hands out of the way and began to mutter more words, watching as the botched skin slowly melded itself together. A cry rang from the woman above her as she doubled over from the pain of feeling her flesh move and mend unnaturally.
"Lady Akila, this unfortunately is going to hurt! It's the best I can do given the circumstances." She responded as her shaking fingers tried to move some of the dirt out of the way of the wound so it could close.
"Deepti-" She asked before stooping her assault to save her energy and looked to the young mage at her side. She cupped her shaking hands in her own as she looked at her pleadingly with tired purple irises. "My friend, have you seen Imani?"
The young mage shook her head. "It's too much blood soaking the earth. I cannot sense her life- but I can tell you, I don't sense her blood among the fallen on the earth."
"Deepti, I can't sense her with my mind. I think- LOOK OUT!" Before she could finish, she threw up a barrier which blocked an explosive of fire from raining down on top of them. The heat of the blaze touched their skin through the fabric of protection before being tossed back in the direction it came. Her chest burned and she suddenly dropped to her knees. The young woman at her side caught her shoulders in her arms. Her golden irises widened at seeing her leader crumble before her. The barrier in the back surrounding their city wavered but still held strong.
"Akila!" Deepti whispered with her lips quivering. "My crystals are helping you hold the barrier for the city but we need you to maintain it. Please go back into the city and help me!" She pleaded while Akila grimaced in pain and pushed herself upright. "The armies can handle the rest of this!"
Akila clutched the woman's shoulders. "Deepti, we cannot leave them until it is finished. King Marcellus is fighting the Blood Dawn's King now to protect us all and our way of life. I cannot leave him, and I also need to find Princess Imani. I believe she is knocked out somewhere. Please help me find her while we end this!"
Deepti frowned as she wiped the blood onto her soiled red gown. "I haven't seen her sense after you killed their strongest sorceress and the battalion. I thought you sent her inside."
"He is slain! The King of Akatsalan has fallen! The War belongs to Kingdom Kona!" yelled a warrior covered in worn chain metal and painted green facial markings. His dark hair and bushy eyebrows seemingly shined under the night sky fiercely as he kept fighting with renewed vigor. A broad smile painted across his lips as he moved seemingly undeterred by fatigue.
Both women whipped their heads behind them to see their enemy fall to his knees. The shocked expression on his face bear for everyone to see as he held the sword that impaled him. His envy, jealousy, hatred, and greed reflected in the use of his own sword that was used against him. The knight that slayed him, took off his own helmet and revealed his dirt covered face. Blood, dirt, and grit covered his ashen blonde hair. Youthful crystal blue eyes looked about with sadness and despair. Grief slowly grappling him as he watched the man that threatened to destroy everything, fall to his knees while being surrounded by the death of some of his loved ones.
Their eyes met and Akila nodded in his direction as he nodded back to her in acknowledgement. Another knight dressed in their country colors of fiery red and black rushed over before throwing her metal helmet off her of her head and onto the ground revealing a bright head of red hair. She ran up to him and he embraced her as they stood there in the middle of battle thanking the Gods they had survived and won the war. The blonde looked over the tops of his wife's head and smiled hopeful. "You and your people are always welcome here for saving our land, my people, and my family. Please invite your sister, Queen Mage Tsuna to convene with us when this is all over, Grand Sorceress Akila."
"As to you, King Marcellus." Akila bowed her head at the young king that gave everything to step out on faith and build the alliance amongst the mages, the humans, elves, and the dwarves against the attack of the wrath of the Blood Dawn. She agreed that sometimes, fresh blood and new ideas were needed to build back bigger and better. The blonde fox king and his garish opinionated wife were oddballs…powerful…but oddballs, nonetheless. Through this oddity, they made way for peace and a new way of living life.
"Queen Mage!"
The woman whipped her head to the side. She stood with the help of Deepti as they both looked to see a knight rushing towards them with great speed. His legs stepped over the bodies and maneuvered his way around the dying battlefield. The embers of fire slowly dying down around him as he walked with something limp grasped tightly in his arms. A gasp left Akila's lips as she looked to see him carry a body wrapped in worn torn green robes.
"Imani!" Both women cried out as they rushed to her. The knight squatted down to his knees and laid the young mage who's bright pink locs fell around her dirtied face. Akila reached out to clutch the man's arm in thanks while Deepti worked to uncover her wounds and bring her into consciousness. Tears swelled in Akila's purple eyes as she brushed the grime away from the young girl's eyes. Her fingers shook as she took one hand to hold Deepti's wrist, providing her additional energy to perform her magic. Gold light shined from Deepti's fingers that pressed into the girl's temples.
The sound of a sword being drawn echoed around them, but it went unnoticed as Akila threw up a smaller barrier around them so that Deepti could concentrate on her task. Tiredness flooded her as she felt the remnants of magic pull from her body. Her vision wavered from the strain before she finally gave out and dropped the barrier. Behind her, the barrier to the city had fallen given her weakened state. She swallowed thickly while staring down at her unconscious pupil that had sense grown to be her own brand of warrior mage.
"Imani." Called Deepti as she pulled back and patted the girl's head gently. The blue paste left a sheen along the girl's sweaty forehead. "We bring you back to us. Come home." She spoke pleadingly with tears in her own eyes praying that her magic worked. She was exhausted having have made so many conduits and pumped so much magic to sustain the protection of the village and its forces. The earth was also tired and there was nothing to support her magic to reach any further to reclaim the loss of life. Necromancy was not her forte'.
"Imani, little sister of ours." Akila pleaded alongside of her as they tried to wake their sister. Their eyes shifting to the fallen bodies of other mages that lay lifeless, praying that the battle hadn't taken this one too.
"Bring her into the medical hall at our castle. We have a few doctors that can care of her." Spoke the King's wife, Queen Kasandra. Her loving brown eyes shined with the warrior's gaze of her people as she directed them back towards the castle. Her sword still clutched tightly in her hand as she motioned for them to hurry. Her King having have left to fight a few more up head.
"Ah-kila."
The women looked down to see green eyes flutter on the young woman's face. A cough racked her body as phlegm and dirt came up. "Imani!" Akila and Deepti cried in joy and moved to sit the woman up so she could spit. Both women immediately hugged her to their bodies closely. Akila brushed Imani's pink locs back as she thanked the Gods for returning what she thought had been lost.
Akila looked over to the solider that had brough her precious Akila back to her. His strikingly silver haired solider slashed through another enemy body easily before running to his King's side. They clutched each other by their upper arms, surveying each other for injuries while talking quickly of praise to the other. Strong pats on their back and harsh shakes with welcomed smiles were shared. As if sensing her gaze, the warrior too looked at the women with softened brown eyes staring at them. Gone was the frustrated hatred he harnessed for her kind before their alliance. The fear of their magic lain to waste as he saw his fellow warriors fight arm and arm with him and his army. The moonlight shined of the breast plate of the wolf engraved in his armor.
She mouthed a string of words expressing her deepest gratitude through teary eyes at him. The White Wolf Knight crossed his arm over his chest as a mark of solidarity. She did the same, with promises to return the favor before returning her attention back to her friend lying in their arms.
"The Great Fire King did it." Deepti whispered as the mages clutched each other to watch as those around started to either fall or retreat. "We won."
Suddenly, the wind picked up around them. They all looked at the sky as it darkened. The fire that was slowly dying around them was brought back to life by powerful gusts. Everyone shielded their faces from the assault. The presence of forbidden magic filled the night air. Deepti helped Imani to her shaking feet. While Akila moved to the front, serving as a protective barrier.
"Your majesty, leave!" Akila said, her eyes glowing a bright purple. "They seem to be playing their final card." Her hands moved and the barrier that fell over the city, rose again. The shine having lost some of its color, sensing its sorceress's weakness.
"Look!" Imani pointed towards the enemy mage that Akila had defeated earlier walk towards them with her hands out. Blood soaked her blue robes from where she was hit in the chest by one of Imani's knives. Her pale ashen skin revealing the jarring deathly wounds she had sustained. Her lips moved with the taste of a dark spell on her lips. "This Kingdom is mine! The Covens will be mine!" She yelled as she unleashed a wave of power.
Akila stood up and immediately blocked the attack before going back onto the offensive. Black lightening filled the air around them. Akila looked about confusingly, unable to determine what the witch was doing. All she knew was that the magic was of the banned kind. The way it drew across her flesh and demanded the blood of her enemy. Spider veins bulged along the face of her witch as she mumbled her curse and struck out at the people. Akila parried her attack but wobbled from the drain. The barrier draining in color by the minute.
Akila reached out through the void in search of her Queen. Communication passed between them briefly while Akila pushed and shielded to the best of her ability. "Queen Tsuna just defeated the remainder of his armies to your east. She is on her way to give aid to us. But she warns everyone to get into the city behind the barrier now!"
Deepti turned around to focus on redirecting the enemy witch's energy away from the crystal. A hand grabbed hers and she looked to see Queen Kassandra at her side muttering her spells as well, strengthening the barrier. "Queen Kassandra, take cover into the city! Our mages will keep you safe there!"
"Not a chance!" She angrily yelled back. "I may be only half mage and elf but I can help!"
"The witch's chants grew louder as she unleashed a powerful force of power. Black lightening crackled all around them now. It bit at her skin and pulled from behind her. A loud crack reverberated through the battlefield. Everyone turned to see the giant crystal aiding in protecting the city, had begun to crack into half. The sound defining to everyone's ears. The remaining militia that was still alive, crouched down and covered their ears.
Imani's eyes widened. "She's performing necromancy of some kind! Get behind the barrier!" She yelled to the people remaining on the battle field.
The witch let out a raucous cry before moving to attack Imani but Akila intervened and threw a powerful fire attack back at the witch. The witch flew back hurriedly. She crouched down and absorbed the attack. Her broken fingers pressed into the body of one of the dying soldiers now lying motionless on the ground. They watched as the flesh fell from his body and turned to ash.
King Marcellus ran and grabbed his wife into his arms. Her cries rang out as she yelled at him to let her fight and help the mages. His voice spoke reason in her ear as she reminded her of the precious life, they had back inside of the castle waiting for them to return. He clutched the protective necklace on one of the mages had provided to him for safety. It shielded him and his wife as he moved backwards. His knight shielded them while moving about. The reactor from the giant crystal grew bright as the sorceress drew power from the crystal as a conduit.
"I will destroy you all!" The witch yelled as she summoned the largest amount of energy that shook the earth.
Akila started her chant anew. "We need to kill her now!" She stepped forward calling upon her power within her hands. The mages stood and began to recite counter spells against the call of their enemy. Akila's eyes flickered to the Wolf Knight's as she pulled a sword with telekinesis from one of her fallen mages. She tossed it into his hands right before she rushed forward towards the witch. Akila pulled the last of her magic into her hands leaped into the air. She could feel the witch pulling into the crystal at the same time. She rushed forward to feel her sister equally calling upon their own power to aid her in the final attack. They met in the center as a cosmic explosion collided with all their powers.
Everything was swept in a giant glow of white light before being eclipsed in slow darkness. Akila's eyes grew heavy, and her body felt fried from the force. She looked tiredly through her lashes feeling satisfied that at least she may have fallen but her death meant the beginning of something beautiful and hopeful for the people. She blinked to see the sword she had thrown to the knight ring loud affirming its contact with the witch. Her body felt weightless, and her eyes were nearly closed while watching the decapitated head of the witch fall off her body. The shocked face of the knight and his anguished screams rang from his lips. Her name fell from his lips confirming that she at the very least could rest knowing she had helped and saved a friend.
In Konoha...
Boom!
Kakashi sat up in his bed with wide eyes and a blade clutched in his hand that he grabbed by reflex. The moonlight shined through his closed window onto his bed. He looked to see a light die down in the far distance in the dark night sky. Stars twinkled and moon seemed to hover above watching carefully below. His eyes were wide as he searched the night for answers. Footsteps were heard and the sign of his special ANBU forces knocked at the door. Quickly, he threw on his combat clothes and robe. His movements were rushed as he made his way to the main room where the door leading to his living quarters resided. His body maneuvered around in the shadows of the night, adrenaline pooling into his system in case Konoha was under attack. His robes brushed the ground while his mind worked on the questionable sound that exploded in the distance.
He threw open the door to see his guards standing with their masks covering their faces and report in the leader's hand. "Report." He commanded as he walked through the entrance and into the hall that would take him to the Hokage tower.
"A large explosion happened approximately beyond the Hidden Moon Village from Konoha but the effects were powerful enough for us to feel it. Our forces have mobilized just in case to protect everyone." Responded his commander which he knew to be Gemna.
"Send a squad to investigate the source. I want a report, stat." He commanded as he stopped to look out one of he windows. Far beyond the forests of Konoha shined bright light that slowly died down in the distance. The people were standing in the streets looking about for the spectacle. Their voices rising as more and more came out of their homes with fear in their voices. Already he could sense a few fellow ninja approaching his office, looking for commands.
"What is happening?" Kakashi muttered to himself as he prepared for the onslaught questions by the people.
