Prologue

My Darkness

I slowly woke up, looking around. Everything was blurry, sleep still wanting to drag me back into its warm embrace. I rubbed my eyes, trying to sharpen the image. I was in some sort of library, dressed in a shirt with a brown waistcoat pulled over it. I didn't recognise the place I was in, nor the outfit that I had on.

I went to get up when the sound of footsteps echoing around the library came from behind me, coming towards me. My curiosity got the better of me and I looked, my eyes widening in surprise and happiness.

"Hey sleepyhead." Holly put a cup of cocoa in front of me, smiling as she sat down opposite me. She was dressed in her Lunaria gown, the stars on it twinkling, no longer obscured by the armour. "You're always here, reading."

I smiled a little, going back to the book in front of me. "Yeah…there's some interesting things here. Like how Quinella managed to…" I looked at the solitary cup, a little confused. "Hang on, why didn't you get yourself something?"

Holly looked at me, confused by my question. "Why would I need it? I'm dead, silly."

Those two words was like a cold steel blade being driven in my heart. It wouldn't be bad if it was just a quick stab in and out, but it stayed there, lingering, spreading to every cell in my body. I shivered before forcing a smile. "What are you talking about? You're right here."

She gave me a sad smile. "You'll have to accept it one day Light… Otherwise you'll never be able to look to the future…"

"I am. You're still right here. I can look forward to the future with you…"

The room suddenly disappeared, and I was left alone.

I jolted awake rather unpleasantly. I was surrounded by the darkness of my room, the only light source being the moon which cast a silver glow into the room. I slowly sat up, looking around and rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.

My heart hurt…so badly…

I swung my legs around, looking to the clock on my bedside cabinet. It had barely been two hours since I had decided to try and sleep. But every night, I was haunted by the same dream. I didn't want to believe it…I didn't want it to be true… After all, she was right here…in my heart… This pain had to mean something…

It had been three weeks since I had been discharged from the hospital. I hadn't gone out of the house, only leaving my room to eat. The silence of my room left me trapped in my thoughts, but it was better than having to talking to someone and slowly being driven insane by their insistence that Holly was… I shook away the thought before it could fully manifest in my head.

My fingers brushed over the Amusphere, gently lifting it up. It was so much lighter than the FiveSense, and a lot more comfortable to wear than it. I slipped it over my eyes, knowing I wasn't going to be able to sleep. The red visor stayed dormant, awaiting the command to send me to the virtual world. I lay down, staring at the ceiling.

I felt a tear roll down the side of my face. I'm back to that point… My darkest point… And there's no one to comfort me…

"Link Start."

Hello again! Boy has it been so long. I'm really excited to start writing for you all again. It's been amazing to see the response to Alicization Nightshade. And now, I'm happy to bring you the sequel. Light's journey ended with him losing everything. And now, I want him to heal, to grow, and to love again. So, we've taken the first step.

I don't have any plans for an upload schedule. I've written a few chapters already, but I'll space them out. And in terms of length...well, that's not really decided yet. I have a loose plan in mind, but the exact steps on the journey, we'll see.

But for now, and I'm happy to say this again, until next time, Stay Cool.
