Chapter 1: Taichi and Hikari
It was 5:54 in the morning.
"Oniichan, what are you doing so early?" a very sleepy-looking Yagami Hikari asked.
Yagami Taichi, her older brother, was already up. That was unusual for him. He normally wasn't the type who got up that early.
"Oh, sorry, did I wake you up?" Taichi asked worriedly. He was always concerned for his little sister and surely didn't mean to wake her.
She shook her head. "I couldn't sleep anyway," she said and started coughing.
"You should go back to bed and cure your illness", Taichi told his little sister. He was really worried about her now. Hikari had always gotten sick quite easily.
"You are leaving, right?" Hikari asked her older brother, looking at his packed stuff.
Taichi nodded. "Of course! Today is my 10th birthday. That means I can finally get my own Pokémon partner and go on a Pokémon journey."
He got really excited when he said that.
"I wish I could go with you," Hikari told him.
"But you are still too young, besides ..."
Hikari started coughing again.
"You really should go back to bed", Taichi said in a worried voice.
Hikari nodded. "Will you show me your Pokémon?" she asked him.
Taichi nodded. "Of course I will. And I will contact you whenever I get to a Pokémon Center and tell you everything that happened on my journey!"
"Taichi, Hikari, what are you doing so early in the morning?" their mother, Yagami Yuuko, who had been woken up by her children's voices and who had just entered Taichi's room, asked.
"Mom, have you forgotten? Today is my 10th birthday. That means I can finally ..."
"... get your own Pokémon and go on a Pokémon journey" Yuuko finished her son's sentence. "How could I've forgotten this? But ... it's barely past six o'clock now" she added with a glance at the clock.
"Do you really think Professor Oak will be awake at such a time to give you your Pokémon?"
"But I'm just sooo excited. I've been waiting for this day like forever. I just can't wait anymore", Taichi said very excitedly.
"I'll make you some breakfast. You want to be at full power when you start your journey, don't you?" Taichi's mother suggested.
But Taichi declined. "N-no, I'm fine really. I'll eat something on the way."
Hikari suddenly started coughing again.
Yuuko looked worried at her daughter.
"I will take Hikari back to bed. If you go to Professor Oak, don't forget to greet him from me" she told her son.
"And don't forget to come back and show me your Pokémon," Hikari added in a weak voice.
Taichi smiled and nodded. "Of course."
He put on his goggles and left the house heading to Professor Oak's house, while his mother took care of his sick little sister.
