Hello, people of fanfiction. Welcome to my first ever story. I hope you enjoy :)

'Shit,' she thought, as she rushed out of her bedroom, grabbing her jacket along the way, she was late and it wasn't the first time this week either. The raven haired young woman briskly walked through the corridor, pushing past the A squad as they tried to block her away.

"Watch where you are going, Cadet," said the A-Squad Red Ranger. "Shouldn't you be in training?"

Jewel stopped walking, turning on her heel, she turned to face them, seeing Charlie smirk with her team. "I am heading to training, I would be there a lot quicker if you didn't block my way."

"Has Dr. Manx taught you to respect your superiors yet?" asked Charlie. Jewel's eyes flickered across the A-Squad team watching as they all just smiled like they were enjoying this too much. "Cadet Smith?"

"Yes," Jewel calmly responded, "she also taught me that respect needs to be earned."

Charlie was about to respond, when she heard a cough behind her, "shouldn't you all have training to get to?" they heard the voice of Commander Cruger. Jewel felt her eyes flicker towards him.

"Yes sir," said Charlie, getting into salute, and quickly departing, sending a warning shot to Jewel as she left.

Cruger turned to the B-Squad Cadet, "You're late to training, Cadet."

"I'm aware sir," she said, nodding her head in thanks, she turned on her heel and began to run to the virtual training room. Jewel opened the door seeing Sky, Syd and Bridge waiting in a line.

Sky arched his eyebrow, "you're late," he said, as she joined the line, straightening her jacket and quickly tying up her hair into a ponytail. "What was it this time?"

"I overslept my alarm," she replied. "Charlie also decided to block my path again."

Sky shook his head in response, "you need to stop clashing with the A-Squad."

"I will stop when she does," retorted Jewel, "have we started training yet?" her eyes flickered around the room realising the simulation wasn't on yet.

Syd smiled, "Kat noticed you weren't here," she said. "She said to wait for you."

"I don't know why you were panicking," Jewel grinned widely, as she noticed Sky glare at Syd.

"I think the right question to ask is when will Sky ever stop panicking?" asked Syd, with a huge grin on her face.

Jewel tilted her head. "You're right about that one," she stopped talking as she noticed Sky glaring at her before anything else could be said, the tannoy blared into life.

"Are we ready, Cadets?" Dr. Manx's voice asked.

The four cadets stood straight into attention and nodded, "yes, Ma'am," they said, and watched as the room began to change around them symbolising that the training had started.

They aimed their blasters at the alien running away from them watching as he fell backwards through the warehouse wall. The four cadets slowly walked through.

Sky and Jewel unclipped their blasters, and held them out at arms length, "come out, come out wherever you are," Jewel softly sang, earning a look from Sky.

"You can hide monster," Bridge smirked, as he took off his glove, "well you can't really hide," he used his power to find the alien's aura. "Six o'clock!" he called. Syd quickly turned on her heels to nine o'clock.

Jewel and Sky both rolled their eyes, "that's nine o'clock, love," Jewel corrected her.

"Oh right," said Syd, as she turned. "Thanks Jewel," she reached for the piece of iron, she kept on her belt and clenched it tightly, "fist of iron," she called and her fist turned into iron, she un-clenched it and clenched it again tightly raising her fist into the air, she slammed down on the crates hard revealing the alien.

Jewel felt her eyes widen, "watch out, Sky," she called watching as the B squad leader used his force field to block the attack. The alien taken aback decided to run away from the cadets.

"I don't need your help," he firmly told her running off into the direction of the alien with Syd.

"I beg to differ," Jewel tilted her head. "Why do they never stay still and accept defeat?"

Bridge smiled, as he ran alongside her, trying to catch Syd and Sky up, "that would be too easy," he told her.

"Need a lift?" she asked, Bridge held her hand tightly and using her strength she lifted him up into air, watching as he used a sidekick to knock the alien back.

Sky used this as an opportunity to bring out his blaster but the alien was one step ahead and used his gloves to attack the cadets sending blasts to each one of them watching as they ended up on the floor hard.

"Son of a bitch," growled Jewel, as she slowly stood up, clenching her.

Syd helped her up, "are you okay?" she asked.

"I'm fine," she replied, pushing Syd out of the way as the alien tried to attack them again, this time Jewel dodged the blasts, using the crates to get high up out of the way, when she was at the highest crate, she nodded down to Sky who began the counter attack using his force field to block the attacks.

Jewel jumped down using her blaster, she hit the alien in the back, sending him forward and landed firmly on two feet as she watched their foe fall onto the ground accepting defeat. "I think this may be our new record," she said with a small smile.

"Cadet Tate reporting in," said Sky, slightly out of breath as he held the communicator up against his lips, "mission complete, please be advised."

Dr. Manx walked through, "well done cadets," she said, "your training progresses nicely."

"Kat," said Bridge, as he raised his hand, "I mean Ma' am. I mean Ms. Manx," he stumbled. Syd, Sky and Jewel turned to him, trying to figure out what he was going to say. "We were all wondering," he glanced at his friends. "We know there are A-Squad Power Rangers, and we are B-Squad cadets," he carefully began, "not that there's anything wrong with being a B-Squad cadet, or a C-Squad, or a D-Squad."

Syd stepped forward, "let me translate," she said, "I speak fluent Bridge. He wants to know when we are getting those great designer colour suits." Dr. Manx smiled, that is what they wanted to know."

"Kat, I've told them," Sky interrupted. "It's not about the suits or the weapons, it's about helping people and upholding the tradition of being a power ranger."

Jewel turned to him, "when did you say that?" She asked with a frown.

"That is up to Commander Cruger," said Dr. Manx, as she pressed the button on her tablet the warehouse surrounding them faded into the training room. "Not me," she watched as the four cadets still looked around amazed at how that happened. "Dismissed."

They all stood in attention and began to walk out one by one, "seriously, when did you tell us that?" asked Jewel.

"All the time," replied Sky, "you must not be listening."

Jewel rolled her eyes, " I have perfect hearing, I would have heard you say that, kiss-ass."

"Will you two please stop bickering with one another," Syd complained, "you sound like an old married couple."

"We are not married," retorted Sky.

Jewel rolled her eyes, "besides which I have a partner," she told Syd.

"Who is currently locked up in a maximum security SPD prison," Sky told her, "for using banned time agency technology to enter the building when he came to see you."

Jewel shrugged, "I said I had a partner," she sighed, "I didn't say he was intelligent."

"How is Jack?" Sky asked as he found Jewel walking in the lobby of headquarters. "I presume you've phoned him today?"

Jewel sighed and slowly nodded, "he's fine," she told him, "a pain in the arse but fine," they remained silent as they stepped onto the escalator to the upper level.

"Commander Cruger wants to see us in the command centre," Sky said after a moment of awkward silence.

Jewel glanced his way, "really, what for?"

"The D-Squad cadet didn't say," he said, as they turned the corridor, seeing a hole in the wall. "What the hell?"

"It wasn't me who did it this time," Jewel held her hands up, as they walked down the corridor they found more damage, "but whoever did it is going to get a bollocking."

Sky rolled his eyes, "It's not funny Jewel," he frowned as she laughed.

"Sorry," she laughed. "I'm just getting flashbacks to Owen using the Singularity scalpel; this is something he would've done."

"Okay," Sky slowly replied, shaking his head at his best friend when they walked to the common area.

Jewel nodded, "ah," she said, as a laser beam flew from Boom's cast into the wall, "now it makes sense," they walked up to a very stunned Boom and their friends.

"Boom," yelled Sky, causing the technician to jump. "Clean up your mess!"

Boom winced as he straightened into attention, "yes sir," he said. "Which mess?"

"Start with the last one you made," Sky told him. "Then work backwards," he shook his head as Boom mumbled and shuffled out of the common room.

Syd shook her head, "lighten up Sky. Boom is a great guy," she paused. "A little weird but a great guy."

"Yeah, well someday we are going to have to depend on that great guy," said Sky, "then what?"

Boom raised his hand, "Ooh! Ooh! I know," he eagerly said. "Then our lives will depend on him."

Sky shook his head, "I think I can see wrinkles forming," said Jewel, as she studied her best friend.

"Commander Cruger wants to see us," Sky got to the point wanting to get out of the common room. "Now," he began to storm out of the common room.

Syd jumped off the sofa, "Somebody is a little touchy," she commented.

"You should know it's because he's not getting his own way," replied Jewel, as they linked arms and headed towards the command centre.

"Very true," agreed Syd. "He was always like that even as a kid would Aunt Jen would tear her hair out over it."

"Listen carefully A-Squad," said Commander Cruger, as he walked down the line of readily prepared A-Squad Power Rangers, all armed with their blasters. "Preparation is the key to any tactical defence. Report to Delta Air Base for last minute simulation instruction," he stood to attention, "Earth is counting on you. Dismissed."

The A-Squad stood into attention, "Yes sir," they all said and began to run out of the room one-by-one pushing past the B-Squad cadets along the way.

"Hey," cried Syd, as the Pink Ranger pushed her.

Jewel pointed to Syd, "see," she cried, looking straight at Sky, "It's not just me they have a problem with, it's all of us."

"They are our superiors," Sky pointed out. "But that's who I want to be, I want to be the red ranger."

"Oh, I'm sorry," Jewel backed away, "I forgot your up Charlie's arse as well," she noticed Sky shaking his head.

Syd watched as the A-Squad steadily marched down the corridor, "did you see the size of them? Even the girls are massive," she complained. "What's wrong, Bridge?" She turned to him, watching as he lowered his glove free hand.

"I don't know," he shook his head, "their energy, their colours, something's off…"

Jewel took one last look at the A-Squad before she began to walk into the command centre, "come on," she told her friends.

"Cadets," said Cruger, as they walked into a formally straight line and saluted. "I trust you've enjoyed your training here at the SPD academy."

Syd raised her hand, "Well," she winced, "since you asked, the fluorescent lightning gives me a headache, and Jewel's partner is in a maximum security prison…"

"Syd," Jewel shook her head, as Cruger began to softly growl. It was one of his warning signs that he was getting pissed off. "Stop talking."

Syd went back into attention, "Yes, Sir," she corrected her stance.

"And not that your training has ended or will it ever end whilst you're here," said Cruger, "but as your Commander I must now call upon B-Squad and take on new responsibilities."

Sky and Jewel grinned widely, whilst Bridge fist bumped Syd. Cruger turned to Jewel, passing her a data device. "I trust you know how to use this."

"Yes sir," she said, and the four cadets began to walk out of the command centre, excited for their new mission. "I'm calling shotgun," Jewel yelled as she began to run down the corridor.

Bridge began to run after her, "No fair. I wanted shotgun!"

Cruger shook his head at the sound of the B-Squad cadets arguing about who was sitting in the patrol car.

~*Beginnings Part 1*~

"I thought new responsibilities meant kicking some intergalactic freakazoid butt," complained Syd, as she took the data device from Jewel's hand.

Jewel rolled her eyes, "If you want to know why Syd is complaining," she said, taking the data device back. "It says to bring in the Parkington Market thieves," she read.

"It's code no doubt," said Bridge, turning to face the girls, as they walked down the stairs. "I wonder what it means?"

Sky shook his head, "It means to bring in the Parkington Market Thieves," he replied slowly.

"You know what Sky," nodded Bridge, "you are good."

"Stop thieves!" They heard a shout in the corner and could see some of the market security chasing a male and a female who were knocking down chairs and jumping over occupied tables causing a stir with the public as they tried to run away.

The four cadets got into a fighting stance, as they made their way towards them.

"Out of the way," the young man said, his hand out in defence. "We don't want to hurt you."

"Hurt us?" Sky sarcastically asked. "That's a good one."

Jewel took out her badge and flashed it to the market security, "SPD," she announced. "We'll take it from here."

"Thank you," they said appreciatively and got back to their normal rounds.

Sky stepped forward, "you may not be coming in peacefully but your coming in," he said. The girl dropped the clothes she was holding and her eyes flashed yellow.

"What about me?" She appeared behind Syd. Syd turned taking a glance at the girl then back to the copy, she roundhouse kicked the copy.

"It's a hologram," said Syd. "It's not real."

The copy quickly kicked Syd to the ground who used her hands to try and break the fall, "okay, she's real…"

"I've got them," called Jewel as they began to run away from them. Sky and Bridge helped Syd up.

Sky growled, "I wish Jewel wouldn't head straight first without backup," he said and followed the two thieves into the back of the market.

"Got you," said Jewel, as she grabbed the girl on the upper level, Syd was too late as the girl tried to spin out of Jewel's grip, but she managed to hold on until she was kicked from behind.

Syd stepped in front of Jewel, clenching her fists as the girl started throwing kicks and punches at her. Jewel ended up fighting with a clone. Suddenly, the two SPD cadets were forced up against the balcony.

"Syd," said Jewel, slightly out of breath.

"Yeah?" She asked.

"Just follow my lead," she told her and tried to lunge at what she thought was not the copy, grabbing her arm the four of them stumbled back and ended up falling over the balcony.

Jewel swore as she hit the floor hard. "This is disgusting," Syd complained as she ended up on a piece of cardboard.

"At least you got the cardboard," Jewel pointed out, noticing the two thieves chuckle at the sight of them.

The young man joined his friend, "We'd love to stay and help you guys up, but we've got to bounce," the two hi-fived and laughed as they ran off. The four cadets forced themselves up wincing in pain.

"Well," breathed Bridge, as he rested his hands against his knees, "that went well."
