Aaron Hotchner.
You may have heard of the name before. No? Fine, Let me refresh your memory. He is the unit chief of a division of profilers for the BAU. One, if not the best team in the bureau. Alpha to a pack of werewolves and a widower.
Yes, I did say a pack, or was it the werewolves' part that stunned you?
Let us dive into Aaron Hotchner's world.
Hotchner is a born werewolf. He came into his heritage of alpha around the time of his father's death. He still recalled that day with vivid detail. Still felt the anguish, the power, the anger that ran through his veins that night. The look of fear and confusion in his mother's eyes when she first saw him.
She had gotten home from the pack funeral to find him howling in agony on the floor. His body shifted against his will. His eyes switched from his normal yellow/golden amber to a bright silver iron gray. His once hazel brown fur shedding into a more black phase timber wolf look. Like his mother, he had no idea what was transpiring.
The pack had learned about the occurrences in the Hotchner manor within hours. They mandated he is turned over to the pack and be sent to the elder, in hopes they would know what was wrong with him. The only thing the elders said was that he was an alpha, just distinct from their old ones. Still, his pack turned on him, declining to have an abnormality as an alpha. But then again, even as a pup, Hotchner was unique. From his speed and strength. His eyes were what caught the attention of many. Betas always had the color yellow. Alpha had red eyes. Hotchner had golden/amber eyes. When his father died, he was expected to gain the title, giving him red eyes. Yeah, that wasn't the case. It wasn't until the family's emissary did some digging around and explained to the pack what Hotchner was.
You see there are three types of alphas in this world. Your everyday type of alpha. A true alpha and a blood alpha. A blood alpha is born approximately every 200,000 years, on a full/new moon. This alpha is faster, stronger, and larger than your typical werewolves. Unlike other wolves, the eclipsed moon had no impact on them. Wolf's bane didn't have a toxic effect. The only way one could truly annihilate a blood wolf is by having electricity continuous running through him and chopping his head off.
That was if you were able to get close enough.
Hotch ran a hand down his face. Memories could be so tedious sometimes. And their latest case didn't help either. Thankfully Cruz had given them a much-needed week off. Good timing too, the pack needed to wind off.
"You alright there Aaron?"
Hotch swerved in his chair, to see his longtime friend David Rossi standing at the threshold, neck bared. Hotch must have been lost in his own world to have not heard him come in. "I'm fine. Just reliving some old memories."
"Ahh, going down memory lane I see." Rossi said with a chuckle. "Now how about you come back to the present and let's go meet with the team at the round table." Upon seeing Hotch's confusing face he elaborated. "Kate said she has something to tell us."
"Let's go then." Following Rossi out of his office, Hotch shut the door behind him.
Entering the conference room his pack was already seated around the table waiting on him. Once he stepped into the room, they instinctively bared their necks to him, submitting to their alpha.
Hotch sat with Rossi on his left followed by Derek, then Garcia, Spencer, and Kate, and ended with JJ on Hotch's right. Glancing towards JJ, he spotted the agent currently doodling on a piece of paper. With a low chuckle, he turned his attention to the rest of them.
"So, what's up Kate?" Derek asked, taking a swing of his coffee. Not that it did anything, their bodies burned through the caffeine just as fast as they swallowed it.
Kate stood from her seat, making her way to the front. "Well, my nephew is..."
"Wait, I didn't know you had a nephew." Garcia sounded disappointed.
"Yeah, Scott McCall just turned 18." Kate replied.
"So, you have a brother or sister?" JJ asked, not once looking up from her paper.
"He's my sister's son." Kate chuckled, halting any more questions from coming. "Anyway, Scott's graduating from high school this Friday, and I was hoping you guys would come with me?"
"Where's the graduation going to take place?" Hotch asked.
"It will be in Beacon Hills."
"That's Hale territory." Spencer blurted out, although his eyes were still on the book he was reading.
"Who?" Derek asked while Garcia was already looking the name up.
"Beacon Hills is the territory of the Hale's." Spencer repeated.
Rossi raised his hand in a 'wait' gesture. "Wait, wait didn't the Hale family die in a fire years ago?"
Spencer nodded, placing the book on the table. "Yes, but not all of them, four members survived. Laura hale, Derek hale, Cora hale, and Peter hale. I don't recall what happened, but Laura Hale was killed a few years ago. Making Derek Hale the next alpha. That's all I know so far." He picked his book back up.
"I met Talia and her mate Andrew when I was still a teen. We had gone to the coming of age ceremony for her youngest daughter Cora. Father was hoping for a union between me and their oldest daughter Laura." Hotch spoke mindlessly. "Did they find out who caused the fire?"
"They sure did boss-man, it was..." Garcia meshed her brows from shock to bitterness. "Kate Argent was the accused for the Hale fire."
Hotch tensed at the mention of her name. Kate Argent had not only been the one accountable for the death of his father but also responsible for nearly killing him numerous times. He spent three years trying to hunt her down, but the Argent family knew how to hide their own. Hotchner called it even after assassinating Kate's husband and son.
JJ noticed his tension, placing her hand on his back, and called his name. "You're shifting." His eyes were shifting back and forth. "Calm down."
Taking a few breaths in, he caught the aroma of freshly rained soil. That scent was enough to relax his wolf. Looking up, he saw the worry in all their eyes. "I'm fine." Grabbing JJ's hand, he kissed the inside. "I'm fine."
"You sure Hotch?" Kate had moved to his other side, running her fingers through his hair in a soothing movement.
Hotch took a deep breath, exhaling softly at catching that scent once more. His brows knitted together at realizing it belonged to Kate. "Yeah."
Checking him over, she confirmed he was indeed fine. Giving him a small neck squeezing, Kate walked back to her spot. "Garcia anything else on her?"
"Well, it says she was killed by an animal." Garcia didn't bother to hide her grin. "Rip her throat cleaned out."
Dave scoffed. "She deserved more than that."
"She's dead. That's all I care about." Hotch growled. Although he would have preferred it to be by his hand. "Kate, what do you know about the wolves in that town?"
"From what my sister told me, Derek Hale hasn't been in beacon hills for a while now. It's been months since a Hale has been seen in town." Kate told them. "Right now it's my nephew and his pack protecting the town."
"He's a wolf?" JJ asked still running her hand up and down Hotch's back.
"Yeah, it came as a shocker to me as well. Melissa didn't know about werewolves until she saw Scott wolfed out. After she told me that, I revealed myself to her." Kate explained. She could still see the look on her sister as she told her. She was both shocked and thrilled. "Scott was bitten two years ago, by Peter Hale." Kate told them. "He doesn't know what you or I are. Melissa and I thought it would be best to not say anything."
"I am going to guess he is a beta?" Hotch asked her with a slight frown. Kate gave him a quick nod. "Then that means there has to be an alpha. Do you know who of the Hale's, if any it is?" Hotch didn't like not knowing whose territory he was stepping into.
"Last I was told, it was Derek Hale." Kate answered with a frown of her own. Which she had to admit was a bit confusing. If Derek hadn't been in Beacon Hills for the past months, who was the acting alpha. "So what do you guys say? Want to join me?"
Garcia nodded frantically, already planning their activities in her head. "Chocolate thunder and I are a go pumpkin."
"Well seems I'm going." Derek rolled his eyes, earning himself a slap on the shoulder.
JJ glanced over at Spencer who in return gave her a nod. "Well Spence and I are in; you won't mind if I bring Henry, along would you?"
Kate shook her head. "Of course not. I am pretty sure Melissa would love to have small children running around the house again."
"What about you Rossi?" Garcia asked.
"Well someone has to be there to help Hotch control the lot of you." Rossi smirked, dodging the ball of paper Morgan threw at his head. "Besides it would be nice to travel together, without it being a case."
Kate glanced at their alpha. "Hotch?"
Hotch still felt uneasy, good things never came when you entered an unknown place. Hotch still didn't have full control of himself. Anything or anyone could still set him off. Just as he was about to deny the offer, JJ tugged at his hair, offering him a slight smile.
"Come on Hotch, it'll be fun. Who knows maybe you'll meet a nice, loving she-wolf there." JJ teased slightly, sneaking a glance at Kate.
Hotch chuckled, his mind wandering back to his last relationship with Beth. After Beth had cheated on Hotch, he closed himself off from dating again. It took all of the pack's self-control not to tear her apart. If Hotch had not arrived in time and made them submit, Beth would have probably been wolf chow right now. The poor woman had the scare of her life, finding two growling wolves during her morning run. Hotch didn't blame her entirely for everything wrong in their relationship. The cheating was all her, But everything else was his fault really. He spent most if not all his time with the pack. Beth didn't know about him and the team. He wanted to wait and see if she was the right fit, before letting her in. For once he was glad he waited.
"Well, she doesn't need to be a wolf. She could be a lovely human." Garcia added.
"Or he?" Rossi laughed, laughing even harder when Hotch choked on his sip of water. "No judgment here."
"Alright, I'll go.." Hotch choked out, wiping his mouth off. He was still a little worried. But by the look on his pack, they were happy to go.
"When do we leave?" Rossi asked.
"Well, seeing as tomorrow is the graduation I wanted to surprise him at the ceremony. So we should book the flights for 10 am tomorrow. " Kate glanced at Garcia. "Think you can book the flights?"
"Oh, pumpkin you wound me." Garcia pouted, placing her hand over her heart. "Of course, I can."
"No, we'll just use the jet." Hotch told them, earning surprised looks from the team.
"Don't think Cruz will like that." Rossi retorted.
"He won't mind." Hotch replied with a smirk. "Now before we leave for the day did you all finish your paperwork?"
Once Hotch received a 'yes' from all, he decided to call it a day. "Get some rest, and I will see you guys here tomorrow morning. Be here at 9." With that, they all stood to leave. JJ untangled herself from Hotch as he stood to leave already missing the warmth and safeness of her alpha.
Kate chuckled, seeing the pouting look on her face. "You really care for him."
"Yes, I do. After my previous pack, it was hard to trust another one. Let alone another alpha, but Hotch treats me well." JJ whispered. "And I have Emily as well."
Kate smiled wrapping an arm around the she-wolf's shoulder "I'm glad you have someone like that for you. I know how hard it is to find the correct pack." She herself had been through a bad pack. "Now how about we leave and get our things ready. I have a feeling this will be an interesting trip."
Both girls giggled as they walked out of the bullpen. Ready for what this trip might bring to them.
