Natsu stared at the wooden door in front of him, eyeing it cautiously. He shifted his head slightly to the right, focusing on the name that was engraved on the silver plaque next to the door.
Dr. Macao
He wouldn't have come willingly had he not been forced to by Professor Makarov, saying something along the lines of "it'll do you good" and "you can't live in fear forever". He wasn't necessarily scared, more like traumatized, which in sense, would seem to be worse. He didn't like hospitals, although technically it wasn't a hospital he was in right now, it was a decently sized building with many rooms, and rooms within those rooms. He was currently in a cozy, dimly lit, waiting area; the smell of soft lavender invading his sensitive nose. He looked round some more, not sure exactly what to do. He noticed a few chairs along the wall, and some chairs back-to-back in the middle of the little room. There was a small TV in the corner of the it, playing re-runs of "The Office".
Natsu turned back around to the wooden door, silently debating whether he should knock.
Just as he raised his arm towards the door, it swung open, revealing a girl he had never seen before. She was roughly a head shorter than him with long blonde hair. She had a pale face, pink plump lips, with big brown doe-eyes. There was a hint of sadness in them when she looked up at him—grief—and her eyes seemed to be puffy. Has she been crying?
"Sorry, uh, excuse me," he was snapped out of his trance by the short blonde snaking past him, already being out the door of the little waiting room before he could muster up a simple hello.
She's beautiful. Just like a fairy...
"Uh...who was that?"Natsu asked, turning back to the therapist in front of him.
"Confidential. So, you must be Natsu Dragneel, correct?"
"Yeah, that's me."
"Please take a seat and make yourself comfortable," Natsu sat on the black comfy lounge chair, adjusting himself so that he was comfortably laying down staring at the ceiling. He turned to the left and saw a large window viewing the city he oh-so loved and grew up in. Next to him was a tiny desk, with a mini waterfall. Soft music was playing, slightly making him sleepy. "So, tell me about yourself Natsu." Dr. Macao asked him curiously, adjusting his glasses and flashing him a soft smile.
"Uhh, I'm 19, I go to the University of Fiore, I have 2 older brothers and one younger sister, I have a blue cat named happy-"
"Blue? Why is your cat blue?" Dr. Macao asked with slight amusement in his tone.
"Oh, well he used to be white, but my mom would complain about how dirty he got so easily, so my solution to it was buying blue cat-friendly hair dye and dying his hair. Now you can barely tell when he gets dirty, except when he plays in the mud and he comes back a whole different color" Natsu loved telling the story about how his feline best friend became blue, he found it funny seeing all the concerned faces on people.
"Thats surely interesting. Do you have any hobbies?"
"Uh, well, I play basketball. I also really like science and doing all those cool experiments with explosions 'n stuff. It's super cool."
"Okay, you said you're studying at the University of Fiore, is there anything specific you're majoring in?" Dr. Macao asked, scribbling every answer he received on the clipboard in front of them.
"Actually, I'm majoring in chemistry, but I still don't know what to do career wise..." Natsu responded rather timidly. He didn't like telling people he didn't know what career he wanted to pursue, he always felt slightly judged. He thought maybe majoring in chemistry would give him somewhat of an idea, but he was wrong. His family suggested becoming a doctor, since he liked science so much. He'd never admit it, but he hated doctors, which was ironic because his mom was one. He thought they were all scary and confusing, especially with their big words he could never understand. Not to mention all the medical schooling he'd must go through; he didn't exactly have a knack for school to begin with.
"That's completely okay! Most people your age don't exactly know what to do with their lives, it takes them years to really find something they're truly passionate about. Don't worry about it too much and continue doing and learning what you love. You'll get there one day." Natsu smiled at the therapist in front of him, relief spreading through his body. Hearing an adult, besides his parents, be supportive of his lack of career choice really made him feel more confident in himself.
"Thank you, really, it means a ton."
"Of course, now, let's get started. Do you know why you're here?"
Of course he knew why he was there, everyone knew. It was practically all over the News.
"Yeah..."
"Can you tell me what happened?"
Natsu's eyes darkened slightly, he hung his head low, silently recalling the memory.
"Well, I was home alone, my oldest brother, Ignia, was at work, my other brother Zeref was on a date with his girlfriend, and my little sister Wendy was at her friend's house. My parents were both working at the time, and I had nothing to do so I stayed home. I was hungry, so I made myself lunch, I guess I might've left the stove on by accident. I took a nap and the next thing I knew I was surrounded by flames. I didn't know what to do. I was frozen on the couch for a while before I got the strength to stand up. My ears were ringing and I felt my head spinning, all I saw were flames and I couldn't get away. I ended up passing out and the next thing I knew I was in the back of an ambulance on my way to the hospital. I woke up and my mom and dad were at my bedside crying. My little sister looked mortified, and my brothers called me a dumbass, but they were both crying so I called them wusses and they each smacked me upside the head. I burned my house down, I could have died, if any of my family members had been home, I would have killed them too. It was terrifying. It's all my fault." He felt a tear trickle down his cheek. He hadn't really cried since the incident happened, and he definitely wasn't planning on crying about it now.
"it's okay to feel that way. You're going through a lot right now and it's important to let yourself feel those emotions. What you went through must have been traumatic for you, and I'm here to help you with that. I'll be here to listen and give you advice and talk you through it. Is there anything else you'd like to add?"
"Well, I did want to have a career in pyrotechnics at one point, but I feel traumatized now, and I can't really be near fire without having a breakdown. But I wanna get better 'cuz pyrotechnics really interests me."
"Hmm, I think I can help you with that," Dr. Macao Checked his wristwatch and looked back up to Natsu, "looks like our time is up Natsu, It was truly a pleasure meeting you. We'll meet every Tuesday at 4, our sessions will last from 45 to 60 minutes depending on what exactly we'll be doing."
"Sounds great doc, but I have one more quick question."
"Shoot."
"Who was the blonde girl that walked out before my session?" Natsu stared at him, hopeful he'd know the identity of the delicate blonde angel he saw earlier that day.
"As I said Natsu, that is confidential, I can't just give out my clients information just like tha-"
"So, she's your client too? Does she also come on Tuesdays? Does she always come to the session before mine?"
"I cannot confirm nor deny that information Natsu, I apologize. Now you should get going because I have another client coming in after you." Dr. Macao quickly ushered Natsu out the door.
Damn it.
