I noticed a chronic lack of RWBY/Mass Effect fics and I had this one in the works. I always wanted to tip my hand into a RWBy/Mass Effect fic. Originally I had planned on throwing team JNPR into Mass Effect 1 but that was proving harder than expected. I considered a Jaune betrayal one and he leave Beacon with JNPR joining him. But instead, I decided on this one.
So let's give this a try. An SI who gets stranded on Remnant without outside support (unlike Syd in my other story who has the UN backing him) and cut off from the wider galaxy (for now).
P.S, this is fanfiction and alternate universe. I do not own anything but my own OCs.
Sometime after the Reaper War (2205) the galaxy has fully recovered and life is returning back to normalcy with key differences. Shepard and Tali managed to activate the crucible but never destroyed the Geth and EDI in the process. A new Commonwealth replaces the Citadel Council and a new station is built to replace the destroyed Citadel. So life is alright.
Anyways, This story follows David Zorah-Shepard, adopted son of John Shepard and Tali Zorah-Shepard (the two marry at the end of the war and adopt a few kids). David is the adopted son of John and Tali, has a decent life, and then decides to join the Alliance military N program. A biotic adept, he's…..very good at fighting you see. How did he get to Remnant? Touching a Prothean artifact basically.

Description: David Zorah Shepard is the adopted Human son of famous war heroes John and Tali Shepard. He stands around 192 centimetres tall, has blue eyes, silver eyes, and short black hair that he has dyed red and purple in honour of his family. He has an odd craving for various foods including Tupo berries, chocolate products, meats (including Beef and Varren skewers), Blastohs, and various Levo and Dextro candies (which many species could consume due to the advent of specialized chips that allowed species to consume all sorts of edible foods).
For unknown reasons, David has no biological family that he can be traced back to, nor any record of any relatives. Despite all the damage done during the Reaper war, most orphans can still find out what happened. David has no such family and is presumed to have suffered amnesia to have forgotten his biological parents. He lived in an orphanage on the North American continent prior to the invasion of Earth. During the Reaper occupation of Earth, he and the soon-to-be adopted sister of Reala managed to evade Reaper forces and survive (at the age of 5 no less). They were taken in by Admiral David Anderson before his death during the liberation of Earth. A few months after the Reaper war, both he and Reala were found by Admirals John and Tali Shepard. After discovering that Anderson had left his dog tags with the pair of children, the famous war heroes adopted the pair on the spot. The newfound family would live mostly on the SR2 Normandy before permanently settling on Rannoch in 2188, with David assuming his adoptive caretaker's first name.
Having lived his life around so many war heroes, David would be inspired to join the Systems Alliance military. Starting off as a marine and working his way into the N-program. David earned a reputation of being really efficient at clearing out rogue Terminus pirates (ones not associated with Aria) and Cerberus Remnants.
Current rank: N-6, Staff Lieutenant, Alliance Marine
Loging out.
March 17th, 2205
Planet: Unknown.
Staff Lieutenant David Zorah Shepard groaned and he struggled to open his eyes. Oh goddess, what happened?
Memories started flashing back and he remembered the Prothean dig site he was at. How one of his teammates got too close, how he shoved said teammate out of the way, and how some blue lighting zapped him.
My is it my family always ends up in stupid situation because of the Protheans? David thought and chuckled before getting up and looking around. He was obviously in some forest like area, but definitely not on the planet of Earth or the colonies terraformed to look like it.
"Where in the spirits am I?" David checked his omni tool to see if he was connected to the Alliance Net or the Extranet. Nothing. His GPS also showed a complete unknown.
"Great, I'm lost and probably on some uncharted planet. At Least the air-" quickly checking the air quality, which was near Earth conditions. "Is breathable. That's good."
David followed his training. Quick suit check, all fine. Gear, all in tip top condition. His body, that was fine. Now for weapons.
His weapons consisted of a M95C Mattock (an upgraded version of the original Mattock) that used a new cooling system that functioned more like the older cool down weapons (though you could fire thousands of shots before one needed to cool down a weapon) derived from Reaper technology. It also had a built in 20mm grenade launcher which he could replenish grenades with the micro fabricator on his omni tool. He also carried a N7 Hurricane Submachine gun (updated to be accurate at hundred meters and having the new cooling systems), and a brand new M-49 Stinger Shotgun. Because what kind of Zorah would David be without a shotgun.
"Lieutenant Shepard?" a voice called over his suit's internal comms.
David gave a breath of relief. "Vortex, that you?" he asked to the Geth program in his suit.
"Affirmative. This unit is 100% effective. However, worrying we have lost all contact with the collective."
"Utter fantastic." David sighed.
That was when he heard a growl and David turned to see one very ugly and black wolf-like creature.
The beast leapt forward, only to be cut down by a burst from David's Mattock. The beast fell, crashing face first into the dirt.
"Ok, that-" the beast suddenly started to dissipate into dust. "-new. Ok now where the hell are we?"
Beacon Academy, 80 AGW (sometime in March)
A few hours later
Professor Ozpin, headmaster of Beacon Academy, sighed. It was both a sigh of relief and a sigh of exhaustion. He had just finished assembling the new 1st year teams for the year so that was one thing out of the way.
The joys of seeing the current teams celebrating their victory in surviving initiation.
However recently, several pilots reported some sort of explosion off in Emerald Forest, the Northern part. Ozpin debated on sending out a team to check it out, see if maybe the good general had done something.
That was when a buzzer for the intercom went off. "Hello?" Ozpin asked.
"Headmaster, we have a Miss Rose requesting to come in?" Glynda replied.
Ozpin sighed. "Send her in."
After a few minutes, the elevator opened to reveal Summer Rose, one of the few Silver Eyed warriors left on the planet. "Headmaster." Summer gave a nod.
"Summer. What can a do for you?" the headmaster asked.
"I heard that there was some sort of explosion in the Emerald Falls forest." Summer explained. "I wish to investigate."
"Summer?" Ozpin asked. "It's been a while since you were on the field."
"Oz, do you know what day is coming up?" Summer gave a somber look. Oz remained silent.
March 21st (or Remnant's equivalent), the day Garnet Rose, Summer and Tai's only son disappeared. At five years of age, Garnet disappeared while Summer was on a mission. Despite abandoning it and hurrying back to Patch, Garnet, nor his body, remained missing. It was the day it heartbroken the Rose family.
It was the day that taught Summer to stay home with her family.
Ozpin sighed. "I understand that day is painful, but-"
"Don't but me Oz. I just…I just need a distraction. Every time of year on that day, I have nightmares. Nightmares of Garnet dying, being tortured, being in pain without me being able to do something. Every fucking year. Despite all I have done for my girls, the past weighs me down. I just…" Summer sighed. "I just want to do some good now that my girls are in your care."
Ozpin looked at the silver-eyed warrior. "Very well. Just you?"
Summer nodded.
"We currently don't have any Bullheads heading there yet, but I'll have one ready by tomorrow." Ozpin said.
Summer nodded. "Thanks Oz."
Unknown, Unknown planet.
March 17th, 2205 CE (1 hour later)
"Ok, this planet's just odd." David muttered as he watched a convoy of people traveling down a dirt road. He had just spent the last few hours dodging and fleeing from those creatures (Thank goddess for Aunti Kasumi's older cloaking device).
He had already established that he wasn't on any charter colonies of the Alliance, nor any independent ones. So he was pleasantly surprised to see a column of people walking down a road next to horse drawn carriages?
But the most extraordinary thing were the Humans with animal parts. Some had dog tails and ears, others had horns, a few had scales? Advancements in genetic modification were made after the Reaper War but still. This was new.
"Vortex, tell me I am not hallucinating? Am I seeing Humans with Earth animal parts?" David asked.
"Confirmed Lieutenant Shepard. We are currently viewing it from your suit's cameras." the Geth replied.
"So, this isn't Earth. Maybe some sort of alternate reality?" David asked.
"Unknown. We will attempt to determine our location when night comes around. Perhaps we can locate our position via the constellations of the stars." Vortex responded.
David cautiously stalked the convoy, before stopping when he saw that they entered a walled town.
"At least they are smart enough to build walls around their towns." David deactivates his cloak, letting it recharge. "Now-"
BANG! BANG!. Two gun shots can be heard from inside the town.
"Oh that is not good." David quickly did a biotic charge to the top of the wall to get a good look. What he found disgusted the N-6.
He saw the convoy members and much of the town's inhabitants being dragged out by more of those animal-human hybrids, only these ones were wearing weird masks of somesort. There was around a dozen and a half with swords and guns.
"Separate the Humans from the Faunus and line them up!" one of the masked figures yelled. He had a full face mask with red markings on them.
"Well at least we have a name to go on." David muttered as he watched the masked figures drag people out of their homes and separate them.
"Brothers, sisters of Faunus kind! Your salvation has come. We are here to rescue you from these filth." pointing to the Humans without animal traits.
"What do you want with us?!" someone yelled.
"You will be given the opportunity to join the White Fang. Your families will be cared for and you will fight against the oppression that the Humans inflicted upon all of us. Think about it, and you will be leading our people to a bright future!" he declared.
"And what about the Humans?" someone cried out.
The masked figure only looked at the Humans. "They will be executed for their crimes against the Faunus people." The Humans began panicking and the Human children began crying.
"You can't do this! They have done nothing wrong!" one of the townsman Faunus, a wolf one, cried out. "We left the cities to escape racial violence. We have live peacefully with the Humans here. They have committed no crimes! They have do nothing! Leave us out of your fight!"
"Yeah! Leave us Alone!"
"Get out of our homes White Fang!"
"Don't involve us in your war Terrorists!"
SMACK! The Wolf Faunus who spoke up first received a fist to the face.
"If you wish to stand against the righteous cause of the Faunus people, then you will pay. And these Humans will pay first!" The masked leader pointed to a pair of children hugging each other in fear, a Human and a Faunus. The Human child was ripped out and shoved towards the masked leader.
"The Humans will pay for their crimes against the Faunus race, starting with this one." cries of panic erupted from the villagers as the White Fang leader raised a sword to strike down the poor Human child.
BANG! The mask of the leader shattered and his head exploded. The Human child took this moment to flee back into the arms of their Faunus friend. David looked down into his hands to see his Mattock in his arms. Ah screw it. I guess this is go time.
"What the!?" another White Fang yelled. And then his head exploded as another slug slammed into their heads. Everyone began screaming in panic and David dropped White Fang member after White Fang member with military precision and in rapid succession.
"Get him!" one of the White Fang members yelled and several White Fang members rushed him, only for their aura (which were really weak) to shatter and to take a few slugs to the face. A few bullets pinged off his kinetic barriers.
"Run!" 4 remaining White Members tried to flee before something smashed right in the middle of the group and three of the members began floating around some sort of floating orb with a gravitational field.
"Still got it." David smiled as he watched three White Fang members flail around in a singularity And then he did a biotic charge into the last standing White Fang members. The White Fang member standing suddenly felt a bunch their bones being shattered as 200 kilos of pure Human and armor smashed into him.
Meanwhile, the villagers could watch as this armored figure casually annihilated the White Fang with what appeared to be magic.
It was at this moment the Singularity exploded and sent the remaining White Fang members flying and somehow not killing them.
One of them tried to get up, only to be picked up with a biotic pull by David and brought before the N-6.
"Wow guys, such a low blow. Going after children, no wonder everyone in this village hates you." David said as he brought the White Fang member in front of him.
"Who in the brother gods are you?! A huntsman?" the White Fang member squeaked.
"No, I'm a biotic, and a N-6. A defender of the weak, and a clan member of clan Zorah." it was at this moment that the White Fang member was lifted right in front of David before the Human N-6 gave the terrorist one good headbutt. The terrorist fell to the ground, unconscious.
The villagers just stared at David, who sighed. "This wasn't what the vids showed me."
Codex….Interplanetary Combatives Training/N Program.
Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) is the Systems Alliance's premier school for leadership and combat expertise. The Interplanetary Combatives Academy, sometimes called "N-School" or "the villa," once recruits officers from every branch of Earth's militaries to partake in grueling courses at Vila Militar in Rio de Janeiro. However after the Reaper War, the Alliance sees military personnel from several different species and nations to make up for depletion of Earth's national militaries.
When beginning training, Cadets spend over 20 hours training in grueling conditions with little to no sleep or food. If one passes, they are awarded the title N-1 and invited to return. As one raises through the ranks, training moves from classroom lectures and works to actual combat skills. N-6 provides candidates with live combat experience. If one passes N-6 courses, then they are awarded the coveted N-7.
Prior to the Reaper War, members from all of Humanity's militaries like the North American SEALS, Chinese Falcon commandos, and other national militaries along with regular Alliance forces participated in the ICT. Members who participated in the ICT are known to be some of the deadliest warriors to participate in the Reaper war, with many spec ops mission credited N-7 members. Since the battle of Earth, the ICT now sees participants from the Turian Marines, Asari huntresses, the Krogan clans, and even the Salarian STG.
