Spyro, Cosmos and Sparx continued forward. They left the endless field behind them and continued their adventure towards the human city.
"This place is so different from the other realms I visited," the young purple dragon commented in excitement. He looked around. For now, it looked pretty typical with the lonely road they were in and the green field around them. It felt a little more like his home.
"I have to agree. If their fields and farms are that big, I cannot begin to imagine what their city is like. They sure changed compared to the old files I found," the leader of the Magic Crafters commented.
Spyro continued to practice flying. He couldn't control his magic that well, but he began to feel more natural with his wings. He still felt on his butt a few times.
They stopped when they spotted something at the horizon. The two dragons squinted their eyes while Sparx flew a little higher to see what it was.
"Think it's the city? It looks far away," the purple dragon grumbled.
The dark green dragon nodded, "Indeed. We are still far away. We will see what it looks like up close soon enough."
They continued marching towards the city.
Chapter 99: Meet the King
When they reached the walls leading into the city, the two dragons stopped. They realised how massive the city was.
"Waouh. Such a large wall, but we can see their giant houses from here," Spyro commented. He felt like he watched towers instead of houses.
The gray walls that surrounded the city had many gates that lead inside. The gates were open and many humans went in and out of the city. At the top of the wall, guards patrolled around to make sure the city was safe. They held weapons that were called guns and rifles, from what they learned on their way.
"This feels like a dream. Humans couldn't build something that big in the past. They aren't that strong to transports large rocks on their own. The wall was pretty much the higher they could make. Not anymore. Also, the houses look different than the wall."
The wall looked much older compared to what they saw above it, as if the structures came from two different eras.
It was an impressive architecture for the two dragons. Spyro showed a little bit more of that as he recognised a bit of the details Nestor put in his brain when he showed his craft. He noticed a few cracks, showing the age. The type of crack also told him that it wasn't a structural weakness. The purple dragon remembered when his dad told him in simplified manner, 'The small crack won't become a big crack.' He mentally snickered at how he had trouble understanding big words. He still had that problem, but it became less prominent than before. Especially since he heard those big words for a while. He sighed.
They approached the gate, "Hello there," Cosmos waved at them.
"You must be the dragons we have been warned about," one of the guards stated.
The dark green dragon was taken aback by how quickly the news went. He saw nothing that passed over them.
Spyro however remembered the communication thingy that he put on his head a few years ago, "They can talk from far away. They have things like that," he didn't explain more. He had no idea how it actually worked.
"Like magical communication?"
"Yeah, but with things they made. I put one on my head. We gave it back once we returned home," the purple dragon resumed. He raised his chest a little, as it was the first time in his life, he was the one doing the explanation to his dads.
Sparx added that humans did more incredible things and some might be inside the walls.
"What's going on down there?" one human asked when he noticed they were ignored.
"Do pardon me. Spyro here explained something for me."
"Can we come in?" the young dragon asked.
"Of course, you are guests here. We will give you a few explanations on what you can and can't do while you are here," one of the guards said as he pointed at the gate.
"You always leave your gate open like that?" Cosmos asked.
"During the day yes. We would open and close it every minute if we decided to close it during the day. Just a waste of energy," the answer of the human made sense.
The two dragons and the dragonfly went through the gate and reached the city. They slowed down as they looked around.
The city was buzzing with life. Humans walked around, talked to each other's sold product, etc.
They were humans who played music on the street and got a little crowed that listened to them. Others showed their painting talent for everyone to see.
"So many humans," the Magic Crafter commented.
"So many," the young dragon replied to his dad, "And I thought my brothers and sisters were a lot for me and Flame."
Cosmos snickered, "Not sure how many children humans have, but I guess it's around four or five per family. They don't have the same kind of life than ours. They only have one mom and one dad. Linked by blood or not, it depends on what happened to the parents. From what I know. It could be different now."
"It's not," one human told them, "You got us spot on dragon."
The dark green dragon chuckled as he put his hand on his chest, "I am a very knowledgeable dragon. Anyway, we should keep going Spyro," he jumped by surprise when a vehicle flew above them.
"Someone is late again," one of the humans commented with a small smirk on their face.
"The guards will get them soon enough if he keeps this up."
"Flying vehicles. Humans has so much fun gadget."
"Too bad I wasn't there to see some of them. Maybe we will see more," the elder smiled. He was impressed in how much the human realm changed from the books. Even their attitude towards dragons was different. It was for the better somehow.
They quickly reached the castle that stood in the middle of the city. It was tall and well protected with walls surrounding it. Where was also a blue light that surrounded it like a bubble.
"Magic shield. In case of an invasion. Impressed they aren't out of magic," Cosmos squinted his eyes as he tried to feel the magic, "If it is magic," he wasn't certain anymore. It might be magic, but also it might be not, "I might take some notes on their world. I mean, we will start anew with the humans. We can talk with each other's without fist anymore," he scratched his chin, "It's really weird."
Spyro wondered something, "Dad. Who caused the problems between dragons and humans?"
The dark green dragon chuckled, "No idea. It was so long ago. It might have been us; it might have been them. Nevertheless, this is all in the past. We need to remember it, but start anew. Which we kinda failed right now," he nervously laughed.
"Okay," the purple dragon nodded with a small smile. He understood why it was forgotten. The Sorceress.
The dragons stood near the gate. This one was closed compare to the entrance to the city. There were only a few people who walked in the castle through a small door.
The guard at the entrance watched them, "I thought only one dragon was coming," he suspiciously asked. He noticed the dragonfly, "And a dragonfly."
"They decided to send Spyro, a young teenager who can be a bit of a hothead," Cosmos replied. He superbly ignored the glare, "And his dragonfly comes with him. They are best friend since the birth of our young dragon here," he put his hand on the head of the purple dragon.
"The dragons seriously sent a teenager?"
"Yes. The Guardian Dragons doesn't always have a good idea in their little brain," he took a jab on the four Guardian Dragons. He sighed, "Spyro has a good reputation and it was for the best, as far as they believe."
"Can you please let us in?" the purple dragon politely asked the two guards.
The guards looked a little uncertain. Letting Spyro came in wasn't a problem for them, but there was another dragon with him. From what they knew only one dragon was supposed to come. They couldn't risk the life of their king, "I'm sorry, but we cannot let you in. You aren't respecting the protocol and it would put our king's life at risk. We have no problem with Sparx as we know young dragons has dragonfly with them, but with the older dragon, that is another matter."
Another one said, "Sorry, but we need to be sure that everything is safe."
"That won't be a problem. Spyro isn't the kind of dragon who would plan anything like that," someone said with a warm smile.
A Caucasian man came to meet them. The young purple dragon immediately recognised him. He was about to say his name, when he remembered that he was in an official meeting, "Hello king Mike," he put his hand on his chest and politely bowed, just like the Artisan dragons put in his mind before he left. Time and time again.
Cosmos wasn't expecting that the king would wear such attire, but made no comment on it. From the human's perspective, dragons were almost or just a bunch of nudists, "Greetings king Mike, I am sorry if I am troubling, you and your guards with my presence."
Mike chuckled as he watched the dragons bowing to him, "You can stop now. There is no need to bow for this long," he watched for the dragons to stop bowing, "I wasn't expecting you to actually do it one day Spyro," he let out a kind smile.
"No problem," Spyro chuckled as he raised his chest a little, "I came here on a mission."
"I followed him to avoid any problem. Our young dragon here is still a little too young for this task," the dark green dragon explained.
"They explained that to us," the guards agreed.
Mike nodded at the guards, "I see where the problem is. Of course, sending a child alone in our unknown kingdom was foolish from those Guardian Dragons," he crossed his arms together, "And this gentledragon here wants to make sure there isn't any… damage that might come out of our negotiations. Still, Spyro is a hero and I trust that they won't cause any harm in the castle. Please, let them in."
The guards nodded and stood on the side, "Welcome."
The dragons noticed they acted a little like this conversation didn't happen. Cosmos guessed they had great faith in their king, or little doubt on their peaceful intention.
They walked in the castle and followed the king. A few guards came to escort them.
"After walking for so long, I'm guessing you are hungry. Am I right?"
"A little," Spyro admitted.
Cosmos stomach grumbled, "Y-yeah. We walked a long way, but there is no need to be this… cordial."
The man laughed it off, "Don't worry. You are guests here. And those other three dragons aren't causing any troubles as of yet."
"Y-you know?" the two dragons asked.
The dragonfly asked where they were. The human didn't understand his buzzing.
"Sparx asked where they might be?"
"They are heading north as of late. Our secret agents have been on sight. Obviously, those two had nothing to do with Dragon Realm. Whatever problem they caused is separated from the negotiation here."
That made Cosmos relaxed a little.
"The negotiation will be with me and the economic minister. It's going to be a long talk and probably boring," the king explained.
Spyro groaned at the upcoming boredom. He lightly jumped when he realised what he did, "S-sorry."
"No problem. It is boring. Anyway, the key is to keep your eyes open and focus on the important part. With my Economic minister, just wait when he said in conclusion before listening to him. He cut all the fluff away. Don't ask him to get right to the conclusion. You will hurt all the effort he made in this project," Mike warned them.
"Noted," the dragons replied.
Cosmos scratched his chin. He guessed that once the meeting was over, he would ask for help to find Red once again. He couldn't pass up this chance.
AC: This is the end of this chapter.
Next: To The Northern Mountain.
Red and Malefor went on their own way to the mountain to claim the Forbidden Artifact.
