"Such lovely decor~" Alastor commented once we were inside. The joint we were going to be eating at did in fact, look pretty damn nice. The walls were a shade of royal purple, and the floor was polished wood. Elaborate paintings of locations all over the world, from Bjg Ben, to the Pyramids adorned the wall, dimly lit from the orange light of the many small crystal chandeliers above. The place want to crowded, but there were elegantly dressed about. Some ate food while others danced around the dance floor they had set up in the center of the room, surrounded by dining tables.
"Oh Daddy, this is lovely!" Molly gushed, fawning over the beauty of the place.
"Right this way, sir." The host, obviously knowing by face who my father was, took us to an empty table with just chairs for us all. Once we were all seated, a round of red wine was ordered for everyone, and we all tucked in to see what was on the menu.
"Steak seems good." Mama mumbled, Dad nodding along with her.
"I'll go with their stroganoff." Molly folded her menu and set it down. From how she kept eyeballing Alastor, she wasn't hungry for food.
"I'll just go with...lasagna..." Arthur murmured.
"Venison, wonderful~" Alastor chuckled and set his menu down, noticing my glance at him, "It's my favorite."
"I...don't know what that is-"
"Oh dear Anthony, it's the finest way to enjoy deer meat! You just must try it!" I felt my heart stop as Alastor flashed a dazzling, eager smile. I'm not sure why but for a moment it felt like he was really human, and...and just maybe it was only him and I sitting here at this table. Wouldn't it be nice to just go on a date with someone this charming and attractive in my own eyes?
But that would never happen.
"Alright then..." I could feel the eyes of my family members on me, each as shocked as I felt. So it wasn't just me...Alastor was acting different towards me.
Once the waiter was back and our orders were placed, conversation was put back into place by Molly. Bless my dear sister, she was trying to bail me out of an awkward situation with Dad. I was so going to help her out together the most gorgeous outfits for this one. By the way Molly snuck me a wink and a smirk, she was going to make sure I did exactly that. Molly did always make sure she was paid her dues.
"So Alastor," From the tone of my mother's voice, I could tell she was about to start one of her 'interrogations', "Excuse me if I'm being a bit nosey, but why don't you tell us a bit about yourself? Got any family?"
For a moment, just the slightest moment, I felt Alastor tense up beside me, "No I'm...I'm afraid it's just me."
"Oh?" Mama rested her head on her hands, "No one at all? There's gotta be someone."
"Love, let's not-"
"No, it's quite alright." Alastor chuckled, but I swear something felt off about it, "To answer your question, no, there's no one. My mother was the only family I had." Alastor looked down at his drink, swirled it, and took a sip, "But she passed away along time ago."
I had to admit, Alastor almost had me fooled with this, and he definitely had everyone else fooled by the way the conversation died, "That's so sad..." Mama said, "No child should be taken from his mother."
"That's very kind of you." Alastor's smile was small and melancholy.
"Well, that's enough of this depressing talk."
"Harry, don't be rude!" Mama gently smacked Dad's arm, her face scolding.
"What? I'm just being honest."
"It's quite alright, Lora. I myself would like to talk about something less dark myself." Alastor was back to his regular self again, and it was almost as if he hadn't just had a moment of remorse for his 'mother'. Did demons even have mothers? Probably not I mean, they were demons. I'd bet money they were born from hellfire or some occult shit like that.
"Hey, food's here-" Arthur said like a fucking genius as the waiter came back to our table.
"Excellent service." Alastor noted as he finished the rest of his wine and his glass was quickly refilled by the waiter.
"Holy crap-" I had just taken a bite of the meat in front of me, and was amazed by how it practically melted in my mouth, a perfect combination of juicy, tender meat. I had no idea deer meat was so good, and it honestly made me wish I had tried it sooner. I noticed how Alastor seemed pleased with my reaction.
"Now then," Alastor grinned as he cut into his meat, "Let's have a night of entertainment and pleasant company."
